Ivan couldn't help but get lost in the little lady's eyes from across the bar. Her child-like energy was infectious, even reaching him while he was on stage, thick fingers dancing across the strings of his guitar to coax out a beautiful melody. There was no way that some cute salacious little thing like her would ever be interested in a massive behemoth of a man like him. Still, it was nice to fantasize...

Selena couldn't help but be drawn to this massive behemoth, wide as he was tall on the stage, built like a sexy oak tree. She loved his music, but even more than that, she loved him. But could she ever risk letting him know? Was there even a chance that this local rock star would ever feel the same way? If he ever figured out the kind of thoughts she had about him and her, would he run away? Or would he fill Selena's every desire?

The couple: Ivan and Selena

Romance genre: Contemporary?
Part of a series: No
Length: 48 pages

Plot: Selena is in love with Ivan - not that he knows that. She goes to his show every week to hear him play guitar with his band. Ivan is in love with Selena - not that she knows that. He searches for her in the crowd during every show, inspired by her presence. But once they have a chance to spend time with one another outside of the bar, miscommunications and misunderstandings get in their way. Will they be able to overcome their challenges and finally admit their love? (Yes.)

Character development: For such a short book, there was a lot of internal disparagement. Neither character thought very highly of themselves, and most of the internal dialogue was "why would he ever love me, I'm just a nobody" or "Of course she wouldn't go for me, I'm a huge monster." I think some of that was overkill. Some of it was necessary to indicate frame of mind, but it was a bit much after a while. Also, I had a really difficult time imagining Ivan. Was he overweight or just solid? There's a difference, and maybe the point was that she loved him no matter what, and I would expect that, but I was trying to picture him in my mind, and felt like I had conflicting descriptions from the book. I did like this story - Selena loved him no matter what other people though and no matter what he looked like (whatever that was); she saw him with love, and that was really beautiful.

I did enjoy this, story. Especially, their intense feelings for, one another. The problem, being that the author was constantly telling, the reader, as well as, Ivan telling himself, that, Selena, could never like him due to, his size. Being that I am now, on the lower end plus size, but back in the day, larger.

It was never a twenty-four-seven, one tripping over my size living life as were most of my plus-size friends. Surely, not as it seems in this story. Don't get me wrong his heartache is real, but so is hers. Everyone always assumes what's good for others instead of asking.

The people around them both are supportive thank goodness. I did think he did his band dirty though. Doing the solo change without discussing it. Overall, good book. Boo Derek!
