I just finished listening to How Women Rise by Sally Helgesen and Marshall Goldsmith on Audible, and overall I thought it was a strong business book with practical and applicable takeaways.
I especially resonated with several of the workplace habits and pitfalls the book discusses — perfectionism, reluctance around self-promotion, and hesitating to delegate. Those points felt honest and relatable, and I appreciated the way the authors explained how those patterns can quietly hold women back professionally.
That said, some of the perspective leaned a bit more feminist than my own viewpoint. Where I landed differently is that I don’t believe women need to become more like men in order to succeed in leadership. I think women bring different strengths and perspectives to the workplace, and those differences are valuable.
I also appreciated that the book made me reflect on my own definition of success. Career growth and meaningful work matter to me, but becoming an executive for the sake of title or status is not my highest priority. Balance, purpose, relationships, and making a meaningful contribution matter too.
Overall, I’d recommend this book to women at almost any stage of their career, especially those navigating leadership, confidence, communication, and growth in corporate environments.
