HA! Future!

Dang! I spent 300 rmb on this book, and I have to say, it was worth every coin. The artwork and stories and photography are stunning, and you can look at them again and again and again and never get bored. They gave the perfect description of each marine chapter, and really gives a feel for what Warhammer 40K is. If you're debating getting the digital version, don't. You will be able to look at this book for years and years, whether searching for rules while playing, or reading up on lore. This is just a super inviting and friendly book to look at.

The usual lore, not much new - not a surprise considering how recent the last two editions were.

Lots of datasheets including all the new 9th edition marine datasheets, but no-named characters included.

Im not commenting on the rules included, but merely on the merits of the book in quality and as a lore tome.

The graphic design and look of the book are top notch, as expected of Games Workshop. It contains a plethora of new artwork in the traditional grimdark style and not in the newer cleaner style a lot of fans don't care for. The layout is much cleaner than usual, and while I do miss the abundance of artwork in the margins, it does make for a nice easy to navigate book.

Most of the lore pertaining to specific Chapters is brief and familiar to those with existing lore knowledge. However, they are excellent briefs for people new to the lore.

Of particular note, this book does a better job than the 8th edition equivilants explaining how the Primaris Marines fit into the organizational system of the Chapters.

One thing that I was a bit disappointed about was how brief the descriptions of the process of making a Marine is and exactly how post human they are. For instance, there is no listing of the organs and their functions that go into making a Marine in this book.

I also didn't feel that the vignettes and short stories were up to the quality of earlier efforts.

Oh, and another wierd thing. The awesome grimdark quotes we expect in these book are present, except they run horizontally along the outside edge of the page, making you have to achwardly turn the book to read them. It was annoying enough that I just gave up.

Overall a really good book and a worthy addition to my collection, but just short of being excellent. In reality I would consider this a 4.5 star release.
