Holy cow! What an awesome story ANCHOR MY HEART is. As soon as I finished reading this beautiful and heart breaking story, I had to remember to breathe. I found myself holding my breath as I finished, afraid something that would break my heart all over again, was going to happen. I’m happy to say, I loved ANCHOR MY HEART from start to finish. From the very first page, Sara Beth Williams grabs your mind as well as your heart and she never lets you go. Hang on to your seat because it is a crazy and wild ride. She will also leave you screaming for more.

ANCHOR MY HEART will have your feelings as well as your heart on an emotional rollercoaster and if you are like me, you will love every minute of it! ANCHOR MY HEART shows how when we turn ourselves over to God anything is possible. It is the heartbreaking story of Matt and the unbelievable situation he is put into following the death of his girlfriend. This is an emotional story about love, faith, second chances, grief and anxiety. I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy clean reads with true to life characters.

Will Tara be able to get through to Matt and show him how to carry on? We all deal with grief differently. Will Matt be able to move past his grief? You have got to read ANCHOR MY HEART to find out. Trust me, you will love it and you will instantly get caught up in Tara and Matt’s business. This is my first time reading this very talented author, Sara Beth Williams, but I know it wont be the last. Even though she broke my heart, her writing captivated me and left me wanting more. I hope she is continuing with this series because that will make me very very happy. I just hope the wait doesn’t kill me. Don’t forget your tissues before you pick this heart breaking book up!

Anchor My Heart was a story that tugged on my emotions. The overwhelming grief that Matt was dealing with triggered anxiety issues that made living a normal life impossible. He struggled so much and was resistant to letting anyone know the extent of his problems. I really felt for him.

I also felt for Tara. She was such a sweet and caring friend and it was clear that she was falling for Matt, even while he hadn’t been able to move on from the loss of his girlfriend. Tara was truly beautiful on the inside and out and tried to look toward what would be best for Matt, even when it hurt her.

All of the characters in this novel felt like real people, dealing with real issues. All of them were very blessed to have such a close and supportive friend circle. They tried to help Matt and Tara in various ways. It took awhile for things to straighten out for these two, but it was definitely worth it in the end.

(4.5 stars)

#BookReview: ANCHOR MY HEART by Sara Beth Williams

I was given a copy of this book via @justreadtours. I learned later that it’s available in KU so I decided to download it there too. I had Alexa read it to me.

We all deal with grief differently and it might be harder on other people. Death of a loved one is a sad event. Andrea’s death took a toll on Matt’s mental health. They were together for two years and he was even ready to propose. During this trying time, Matt had an anxiety attack that concerned everybody around him. His emotions were so raw that I couldn’t help but feel for him. I’m glad that he has great friends and family to support him. I would love to hear Matt play and Tara sing. Tara was a blessing in his life during these hard times. Letting her go was hard but they both needed space to mend and grow. Tara is such a sweet girl and sensitive to what others are going through.

This is an honest second chance and slow burn romance that spans about two years. It was sad as I read Matt’s journey into healing and moving on. The adjustments and healing took some time. It wasn’t an easy path either. His faith was a big help to him too. I’m glad that there are #mentalhealth programs now to make us more emphatic with the people close to us. It can be a lot to deal with for everyone involved. I like it that the author included Andrea’s family. It helped Matt to have a closure. Matt had a lot to learn to anchor his heart to God and let Him take control of his life. But by God’s grace and Tara’s help, he will make it through. All opinions are my own. 4 stars

This is the second book by this author I'm reading and one thing I appreciate with her stories is the fact that she tries her best to delve in deeply to the heart of the topic.
This wasn't missing either with this story. It's not your typical second chance at love story. It's pain and grief and anxiety and having to learn that it may not all work out as you want.
I loved getting to know Matt and Tara and was rooting for them from the start wanting it to be alright so they could be together. Throughout the story I enjoyed seeing them walk through growth and healing and faith.
I really enjoyed this one from the author.

Sara Beth Williams' third Second Chance novel reunites characters from previous books (although it's definitely readable as a stand-alone) in her latest book. Anchor My Heart begins with worship leader Matt sitting in his pickup truck on a rainy day...at a cemetery. The unthinkable has happened and the woman that he was going to propose to, Andrea, has died in an accident. He is crushed as he realizes that all his plans have come to nothing, and he withdraws from everything; his job, his friends, and his family.

Tara steps in to help on the worship team when Matt isn't able to lead (and, of course, Andrea is now gone from). She is grieved at the loss of her friend and brokenhearted on Matt's behalf. Although Matt continues to be withdrawn, Tara texts him daily with a Bible verse and a kind word. Yet returning to his life, now altered, seems for Matt to be incredibly difficult. And now, the soothing ability to deal with his anxiety by playing worship music on his guitar and singing is impossible, as he can only remember Andrea when he plays. Tara is beginning to fight her own battle of growing attraction to a man who is grieving his almost-fiance. Is Matt taking advantage of her help when he should be dealing with his own grief?

Anchor My Heart deals with these questions and more, in this clean Christian romance. How does a person come back from the heartbreak Matt is experiencing? How soon is too soon to move on? Is Matt depending too much on a woman to be his support when his heart is still entwined with another's? How does a person deal with mental struggles when the way he'd always handled them isn't available any more?

I found the asking and answering of these questions to be an interesting addition to this romantic Christian fiction book. It reminded me that we all can often grab hold of what seems to be the quick and easy answer, when really true work and effort is needed to deal with life's issues instead of just trying to sidestep them. I have to admit that there were moments that I wanted Matt to get his act together! But as I just alluded to, one can't rush grief. I admired Tara's wisdom and restraint even at a fairly young age (24). And I enjoyed seeing the character growth. You will enjoy this book as well if you read clean Christian fiction and appreciate seeing the issues of life and faith worked out.

I received a digital copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Anchor My Heart: A Second Chance Novel is a tale of one man’s grief and mental health struggles. The story is about a man named Matt who loses his almost-fiance in an accident. They are young and in love and both serve in their church’s worship ministry. Matt is the worship leader and Andrea the lead singer.
Matt has a history of severe panic attacks and took medication to help him control them in his teen years. Now, he has been off the medication for a while before the tragedy. The worship team is extremely tight-knit and they seem to do everything together. This is Matt’s entire social circle and support system and they all try to be there for him in his grief. Although he is physically suffering the effects of grief, he doesn’t reach out for any help.

Matt stays in his apartment and ostracizes all who try to reach out to him. But then, Tara is better at finding a path to communicate with him. Tara is a younger member of the worship team and has lived through seeing another friend stray from the Lord after being grief-stricken. She vows that she won’t let the same thing happen to Matt.

Matt and Tara soon pair off and meet for coffee, walks, and dinner. Their friends sense that there is a blossoming romance between the two. Tara is very attracted to Matt, but doesn’t show him. Matt is almost instantly thinking about Tara in a romantic way, which seems very unlikely. He then struggles with his love for Andrea and his new-found intensifying attraction to Tara.

The largest part of the book is Matt going back and forth with his emotions, grief, and longing to be with Tara. The story moves very slowly, because there isn’t much else going on. This could be a book that might be very helpful for someone who is undergoing a time of grief or for someone who is trying to help a grieving friend. The too-soon relationship between Matt and Tara is the main plot. In the end, the reader will be waiting to see if they get together or remain cautious.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Anchor My Heart by Sara Beth Williams is part of the A Second Chance Novel series. The series is new to me, as I have not read any of the other books in the series, but let me just say, I am on the hunt for the other books.

Anchor My Heart is a book that deals with grief and loss. Matt is a Worship leader who lost the woman whom he was ready to propose to in a tragic accident. He is trying hard to stay focused with life and his job. Tara is part of the Worship Team and she is really concerned about Matt and really wants to help him through the grieving process. She has had other friends who have suffered long and hard through grieving and she wants to help Matt as he has suffered Anxiety for many years. Grief and Anxiety really make life difficult. Tara and Matt discover that they have feelings for one another. Tara isn't sure she wants to risk a great friendship for a romantic one. Will Tara be able to help Matt and see him starting the healing process? Will there be a LOVE connection between Tara and Matt?

WOW, this book is a definite page turner. I was hooked from the very beginning. The Author does a great job with writing about a sensitive topic(grief) and weaving Romance into this book. The characters, Tara and Matt, seem to get their strength from one another. Tara has so much respect for Matt and all that he is going through. Matt trusts Tara and finds himself falling for her, even through the recent loss of his girlfriend. FANTASTIC BOOK!

Don’t we all strive to be in control, at least to some degree? Do we not all resist “letting go and letting God” when we need to the most? Turn away from those who love us most, those whom we need the most.
I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book; the main character, Matt, was so off-putting. I just really couldn’t like him.
But I persevered (I’m glad I did) and I came to understand why he annoyed me so—not only was he wallowing in his grief, he was trying to control his emotions on his own—and [SPOILER] from the past.
Of all Matt’s friends, Tara was able to crack through the armor Matt had built up. She’s been there; she knows the pain he’s suffering. And man! is she tenacious! That’s a good thing when God places someone on your heart.
The story—Matt’s grieving—seemed to D-R-A-G on and on… Then again, we all know people (or have been that person) who cling to their pain. Ms. Williams certainly did justice to his fight. I appreciated how she portrayed the ebb and flow of his friends rallying around him and giving him space. The gentle nudges to move forward, and straight up advice to [SPOILER.]
Of course the element of romance was a tightwire act; both of them wanting to move into a relationship, both of them with questions.
Ms. Williams threw them a curve ball that gave them both the space they needed. Literally and figuratively. And I loved how she resolved it for them.
This story sure got my attention, and now I’d like to go back and read the first two in the series.

Anchor My Heart is the third book in this series, and while most of the characters were introduced in previous novels, I think it reads just fine as a standalone too. You'll definitely see some references to those previous novels, but not so much where you really feel like you are missing an important part of the story.

This book was not an easy one to read. Through most of the book, we see Matt really struggling over the loss of his girlfriend. The grief he experiences is written in a way that is very believable and really just pulls at your heartstrings. His struggles with anxiety are likewise quite realistic, and as someone who struggles with panic attacks myself again really just made me feel for this character and all he was going through. I thought the author handled the topic very well--- not at all sugarcoating the struggle. It showed a realistic look at the struggles, but also the importance of having a good support system and trusting God as well. While the romance in the story was rather slow paced--- as it clearly needed to be for the story to work, in my opinion... I still found this to be a rather quick read.

While this is certainly not a lighthearted romance, it is a beautifully written one that I am glad to have experienced. If you love a good romance that will pull at your heartstrings, grab the tissues and check this one out.

Matt is a good example of what happens when we allow grief to take over our lives. After losing the woman he was going to propose to, he pulls back from everything and everyone, abandoning his interests and even resigning from his job. Friends and family try to comfort him, but he’s so focused on how he’s hurting that it’s almost like he has a blind spot to reality.
Tara has gone through this before with someone close to her, watching them retreat and spiritually give up. When she realizes history is repeating itself with Matt, she decides to intervene instead of sitting by the sidelines waiting for him to have a revelation on his own.
This is exactly the sweet and wholesome romance you expect it to be from the back of the cover summary. Matt, Tara and the side characters are a bit on the lightly developed side, but not every book requires an earth-shattering ending or characters with extensive backstories. Anchor My Heart delivers what it promises to and is a pleasant love story that reminds us not only to reach out when we need it, but to be a person worthy of reaching out to.

I was rooting for Tara and Matt to JUST GET THEIR ACTS TOGETHER for most of the book, which would ordinarily be frustrating. However, given the depth of the emotional themes, the angsty back-and-forth worked in favor of the storytelling.

For me, the pacing was a little inconsistent. I would be invested and then I'd want to speed read through pages to get back to the good stuff. But I believe that to be a personal preference rather than an actual flaw of the book--when I was invested, I couldn't put it down, and I feel that says something.

Overall, these characters are easy to love and root for. The elements of faith are very encouraging. The author addresses hard topics like grief and anxiety and what exactly it can look like to love someone through such things. It's a bumpy, emotional ride to the end, but the payoff is so satisfying.

Sara Beth Williams gives readers another novel of second chances in Anchor My Heart while also delving into the difficult subjects of grief and anxiety.

Matt’s loss has left him in despair, unable and unmotivated to function. If not for his family and friends, he wouldn’t make it out of his room. But somehow Tara calms his anxiety, roots him to the present.

Williams examines the many layers of grief—how it paralyzes us one moment or hits us out of the blue another moment—with consideration and care. Matt’s anxiety is also handled in an honest portrayal.

I (mostly) appreciated how Tara and Matt took their time to define their relationship and how their friendship formed a firm foundation for more.

Fans of Williams’ previous novels will enjoy catching up with familiar characters as well as meeting a few new ones (but Anchor My Heart stands well on its own, as well). If you’re looking for a book with romance, friendship, and faith, this one is for you.

Anchor my Heart by Sara Beth Williams is a wonderfully honest story about facing grief and anxiety. Matt Lawson has dealt with anxiety his whole life, but felt it was under control, until he lost his girlfriend to an accident. Tara Pierce has always respected Matt and loved his girlfriend, so when she sees him spiraling in his grief, she makes it her mission to care for him.

The author does a wonderful job of showing how grief affects a person. How it can cut someone off from those around them. How it complicates love and threatens to cause a rebound relationship. How it gets mixed up with other situations, costing more than anyone thought possible.

What I appreciated most was how the author handled Matt’s anxiety. I could relate to much of his experience. But, what I loved most was how it showed how anxiety looks from the outside. The author did shy away from it, didn’t sugar coat or treat it lightly.

Story-wise, my only trouble was that there were previous books I had missed reading first. It made me feel like I was missing something, some backstory to this particular book. However, had I read the previous books first, I’m sure it would have solved that issue just fine.

I hope you’ll take the time to read Matt and Tara’s story. If anxiety and grief are triggers for you, perhaps wait until you’re in a better place, but I appreciated the story and the honesty it revealed. I hope you will, too.

For someone who has gone through grief from the loss of a loved one I could relate with Matt and some parts of the story.

I liked how the author didn't gloss over grief but portrayed how deep it hurts and how God people around are instrumental in helping one through it.
God worked in wonderful ways helping Matt and giving him a second chance at love.

The support system in this book was wonderful and inspiring.

A wonderful second chance romance full of love, heartache, loss, healing, friendship, and new beginnings. Loss is hard but even more so when you lose someone that you plan to propose to, someone who is your whole life or so it seems. When everything about her is entwined with all that you think you are including your music ministry. Life seems empty and you are lost without her until a new anchor a close friend and someone you have watched grow in her walk with the Lord and also is in that same music ministry steps in and helps you navigate that difficult grieving process. You are split between your care for your lost love and the new feelings for a possible new love. What do you do? Are you betraying the woman you loved and lost or is God leading you in a new a wonderful direction full of hope and new beginnings. A second chance with all the possibilities and all that God could have in store for both of you. Do you take that chance or walk away? Read this wonderful second chance story by an amazing author Sara Beth Williams and find out and going on this amazing journey of self discovery, healing, and a new beginning with God at the helm.

This is an emotional and page turning read. The author does a superb job of writing how these characters are feeling and I was feeling right along with them!

The book starts immediately after Matt's girlfriend, soon-to-be fiance, dies. Matt has struggled with anxiety in the past and this event plummets him back into the depths of anxiety and grief. Tara was a friend to both Matt and his girlfriend. Tara is supportive of Matt during his time of grieving and feelings develop between the two.

I thought the author did such a good job of writing Matt! His character was very realistic. I was frustrated with Tara for "waiting" for Matt, but again, I think this is realistic as to what happens in the Christian singles' scene. There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming and I thought the story resolved nicely.

It took me a bit to figure out what Matt's paying job was and that was confusing to me in the beginning.

If you like young adult contemporary Christian fiction, you won't want to miss this book.

This was a good book! Matt loses his girlfriend in a skiing accident, and starts suffering debilitating anxiety attacks. Tara reaches out to him, as she thinks it's just grief, not knowing he's suffered from anxiety before. When Tara starts falling for him, she thinks he likes her, too, but is he using her as a stand-in for Andrea, the love he lost? Matt has to learn that he can't control everything in his life, only God can. I really liked this part of the story, where Matt learns that he has to give control of his life over to God, and that God can take it and make it so much better. I'm not so sure the timeline of grief and finding someone else is as accurate. However, everyone deals with grief differently, and it could well be that some would ready for another love in this timeframe.

Bring your tissues! Anchor My Heart faces honestly the difficult, painful, and individualistic processes of grief and dealing with life following a significant loss. Williams’ vivid descriptions of the psychological and physical consequences of grief are moving and realistic – as someone who has experienced loss, I can attest her descriptions capture the emotions of grief beautifully. She also highlights the importance of community in bringing healing through the lived experience of walking through grief together. The characters in Anchor My Heart are multidimensional and believable, and while you do ache for them as they go through their pain, you also rejoice with them in God’s redemption. A must read!

An emotive romantic journey on the rough seas of grief...

This story dug deep into the thoughts and emotions of a grief-striken man (Matt) and the woman (Tara) desperate to save him from drowning.

The first chapter just about squeezed my heart into pieces, its vivid imagery permanently etched in my mind. I applaud Ms Williams for peeling back those painful layers and allowing us to experience the pain, confusion, anxiety and guilt associated with processing the death of a loved one and "moving on" (well, move through life with our loved one in our heart).

I also enjoyed the lighter moments with Matt and Tara's friends, and the musical side of church ministry.

A worthwhile read.

This was my first introduction to Sara Beth Williams and her series. Overall, this was a sweet, inspiring romance with a bit of depth (looking at anxiety disorders). As the second book in the series, there was a part where I got a little lost in some of the past details, but not enough that it deterred me from reading the story.

There were a couple of places where the story dragged a big, but overall it's pretty much everything you'd want from a contemporary inspirational romance--a cast of caring (if not sometimes nosy) friends, a strong (but sweet) attraction, some pain and confusion, but also the reward of a sweet, first kiss and an emphasis on faith and spiritual growth.

If you're a fan of contemporary Christian romance, I recommend this book.

Rated PG.

This is an emotional story about faith, love, grief and anxiety. I really liked that Matt was very strong in his faith, even when it was really hard for him. I also liked that he had a group of friends from his church worship team and a family that were constantly tring to help him even when he kept sending them away.

It was nice to see him with Tara and how how they were each there for the other one. This book moved full circle when Tara had moved away and later Matt was offered a lead pasto rjob at her church. It was also nice to see how the tilte came into play with the story. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Anchor My Heart is a heart-warming story that profoundly moves you. It was the first book I read by this author, but it will not be the last. It was beautifully written, and the characters were genuine and faced real-life challenges. It was a story of second chances, grief, having faith, and living life after losing a loved one. The author handles the difficult issue of grief and the struggles of those left behind wonderfully. The character’s emotions were deep and tugged at my heart. I highly recommend this book. It is a beautiful clean faith-driven romance of second chances.

When I read Anchor My Heart, I became immersed in the character's minds, experiencing their journey. Realistic dialogue and characters make this a stellar novel. Sara Beth Williams is a new favorite author of mine.

I loved this books so much. Although it does deal with grief, there’s plenty of banter, romance, friendship to lighten the story. It’s one of those satisfying Christian novels which not only entertains but you come away spiritually uplifted by the emotional healing journey.

What a wonderful, faith based story! Matt is dealing with a devastating loss. He is struggling to the point of not wanting to leave his room and quitting his job. He has lots of support from both family and friends. Tara is the most successful in bringing him out. He finds hope and slowly starts to live again. A beautiful, emotional journey. Highly recommend!
