CHRISTMAS COVE SUNG TO ITS OWN MELODY
The story is the first in the Christmas Cove series—a small town in California. The town's name was Pine Cove, but the yearly Christmas Eve tradition of running into the local freezing cold lake while fully decked out in Santa suits inspired the nickname. "Christmas Cove sang to its own melody."
The story is a sweet small-town romance revolving around Christmas, traditional events, the coffee shop, its owner, and the town's event organizer. It is full of angst, grief, and healing. The people of the town are charming and add to this tale. There are no intimate scenes, only kissing, but it does have some profanity. The story will mainly revolve around two people, Jasper Jackson and Eve Harrington, but they have several secondary people who play vital roles.
Jasper Jackson has returned to his hometown to continue running his parent's Coffee Shoppe after their shocking accident and death while they were on vacation. Jasper lived in the Bay area doing SEO optimization, which helps smaller companies compete with larger companies.
Eve Harrington works as the Chief of Staff (COS) for Mayor Nicholas Crum. She is still a newcomer to town, only being here for about one year. Her job includes ensuring things and events run smoothly—like the annual Santa Swim and After Party. Eve had left her previous position after her ex lost his reelection campaign and decided it was her fault. She escapes to Christmas Cove and the charm and charism of the town and its people.
The story's plot will have Jasper and Eve butting heads over Christmas, decorations, the Coffee Shoppe, and the After Party days before Christmas. Two weeks prior, when the community center is damaged during a storm, Eve must find a way to make everything still happen and comes up with the idea to recreate "Christkindlemarkt" using downtown Main Street as the location. Closing off Main Street, adding small wooden huts to sell items—a small village atmosphere where people could celebrate, eat, visit with friends and take in the holiday specter. The only problem, the Coffee Shoppe is centrally located, and Jasper wants nothing to do with it—he is even talking about closing days before Christmas.
"The Coffee Shoppe's name and aesthetic played into the town's charm. Most of the buildings along this stretch of the Christmas Cover were made of brick with planked wooden floorboards. They were relics of the town's gold-mining past. It wasn't hard to imagine people walking around this very town a hundred or two hundred years ago."
When a whirlwind named Eve comes into the shop and has all kinds of Christmas plans, it is more than he can handle, and his refusal causes issues between them. Jasper is so overwrought with grieve from his parent's accident, partly guilt for being away, and maybe even bitterness for returning to their legacy and giving up his future. But this is after they become friends and start developing feelings for one another—will Christmas be their falling out?
Bex: "Not all people grieve in the same way, Eve. He wants to do it his own way, and you meddled with that."
Eve: "He misses them, and I wanted to show him how much I—I love him, Bex."
Bex: "I know you do."
Eve: "But he was so cruel."
Bex: "Hurt people hurt people. He needs time, and you need to respect that."
"Jasper disarmed me. He challenged me and cared for me, and then he shut me out. The man was like a high-security vault, hard to decode but worth it when you did, as long as it didn't snap closed on your fingers."
The story is about friends, a small town with many traditions, like the Santa Swim and After Party on Christmas Eve. It is also about two people, Jasper and Eve, who connect but must traverse the muddy waters of grieve and healing. Jasper grew up here, knows most of the people and their families, and celebrating isn't in his vocabulary. Eve is outgoing, energetic, and steamrolls ahead with her plans—but it is her job to make sure things happen, including the Santa Swim and After Party events. Will the help of a mutual friend, Bex, repair the damage caused by harsh words and hurt feelings? Has Jasper finally pushed Eve away? What will happen with the Main Street After Party? Can Santa save the day—or night with the help of volunteers?
"I need your elves—I mean volunteers—to help me save the day."
