Iris Adams can't dance. She can act. She can hike the Appalachian Trail. She can resist every carb known to womankind. She can make people laugh. But she has no moves. Not even one. Her lack of rhythm has never been an issue until she gets the chance to take her TV show to the big screen. The movie is sure to make her a household name--if she can just nail the Cajun dance scene. Beau Landry is a minimalist. He doesn't even own a TV. A South Louisiana native, Beau's mission in life is to preserve his Cajun culture. The full-time French teacher and part-time dance instructor is only working with this Hollywood head case to help out his uncle. It's not because she's beautiful even when she's embarrassing herself. It's not because she's as funny as she is kind. And it's definitely not because she just might need him as much as he needs her.

"It'll hurt like fuck when she leaves, but until then..."

Two-Step is a heartwarming contemporary romance full of laughter and love! Iris Adams is a beautiful actress who is at the beginning of what promises to be a successful career. When she is filming on location in Louisiana her worst nightmare becomes her reality. She has been asked to dance in her film project. Despite her beauty and grace, she is as coordinated as a newborn duck. When her new dance instructor Beau Landry first meets Iris, the friction between the two is fierce. Beau is completely unimpressed by the Hollywood Star. However, once the ice begins to melt between the two, sparks fly and they are destined to fall madly in love with each other.

"This is my purpose in her life. To be her first love."
Told in multiple POV, Two-Step is "just what the doctor ordered". With so much unrest in the world right now, I really craved an escape. Iris and Beau are both beautiful characters with their own imperfections. The dynamics between the two were truly captivating as Beau fights his attraction for Iris and Iris fights for the strength to have what she wants (and she wants Beau)!
"I don't think I've ever met anyone so worthy of love."
Overall, Two-Step will appeal to contemporary romance fans seeking a light read with humor, passion, and stellar writing. I have been a fan of Ms. Fournet for a long time and as always, she has delivered a beautiful read with complex characters and an unforgettable story. I look forward to more Fournet greatness to come!

3.5 STARS!
It's like the feel of her in my arms leaves an imprint that's impossible to shake. She stays with me.
Fans of Ms. Fournet's signature fabulous writing won't be disappointed. The prose was filled with humor and chemistry and lovely poignant moments.

Plot in a nutshell: Iris is an up-and-coming actress on location in Louisiana who needs to learn to dance for a role. Beau is the gruff and introverted dance instructor who gets stuck with the job.
"I have a usual resting face?"
Her nod is manic. "Oh, absolutely. You have Resting Bitch Face. But I guess in your case, it's Resting Dick Face."
This one was super cute . . . and sweet. So sweet in fact, I think I lost a tooth while reading it. 😂 But you know what? Sometimes a girl doesn't want to end up like a wrung-out dish rag by the end of a story.

If you're looking for a cute, easy-going read with a nice shot of emotion, I definitely recommend!

this book missed some of the magic this author is capable of..
a bit of a disappointment nothing overly bad I just wanted more from the story...
it was just off with the characters and I didn't care for either of them
I felt kind of sad for Iris she truly was alone because despite Roman and Shelly or whatever is her name.. are supposed to be her friends I never got that..

3 Cajun 2-step stars!

I really wish that I could rate this book higher, but there were just so many things that I didn't enjoy.
Maybe it's because my expectations were too high after loving Stephanie Fournets last book?

Wow, I wasn’t sure what to expect from new to me author Stephanie Fournet’s Two-Step, but what I got was simply a beautifully told love story between a rising actress whose life is anything but perfect, and a born and bred Louisianan French teacher who moonlights at his family’s dance studio. These characters weren’t perfect, but they were perfect for each other.

Iris Adams is delighted to be reprising her role from her hit television show in a major motion picture and being on location in Louisiana with her best friend and her assistant/bodyguard/chauffeur/and personal trainer, unfortunately her manager and mother Moira is also on set, and she’s just found out she will have to learn two dance numbers for the movie despite her two left feet and zero coordination.

When Beau Landry must take over dance lessons after his uncle in injured by a Hollywood actress, he isn’t happy. His first impression is she’s entitled, fake, and possibly a drug addict or alcoholic. Yes, he’s worried about his uncle’s injury, and he realizes he may have been a bit harsh, but there’s something about her that calls to him.

At first I wasn’t completely sure about Iris, I couldn’t understand why she was so “real” with her friends and let her manager/mother run completely over her, but it became clear that she had been emotionally abused by her mother for years and it was easier to give in to her and save her sanity, but in reality she wasn’t okay. I enjoyed watching Iris gain confidence and grow throughout this story; it was a thing of beauty to watch.

While Beau came off a bit gruff at the start, he made up for it by protecting Iris and befriending her while also proving to her that she can accomplish whatever she puts her mind to as long as she doesn’t over-think it.

I loved the slow burn of this romance, the friendship that formed between these two characters, and the way they grew to respect each other all while falling lead over heels in love. Fast paced, fun, emotional, and sexy, Two-Step by Stephanie Fournet was a breath of fresh air.

I discovered this author with 'Kind of cursed' and I can add this one to my favorite 2020 shelf.

Iris is a young actress with a horrible mom-manager, Moira. She has to learn some Cajun dancing for the movie she is shooting but the problem is: she cannot dance. When the kind elderly dance teacher her mother hired is injured - by Iris - his nephew Beau takes over. Beau is a French teacher but he also teaches dance in his mother's studio. Iris an Beau can't help but falling in love. But Iris has a career in LA and Beau has a mother with early onset Alzheimer's and he feels he cannot leave her.

I so enjoyed this story. It felt real and I liked both MC's and their friends. This author writes in an easy but emotional way. I can't wait for her next book and have to check out her backlist.

God I really love this authors writing style!! Her books are so easy to read and so enjoyable I can’t get enough!! My only complaint is the way Beau handled their relationship obstacle at first - it really ticked me off. I would’ve like it to have been handled a little more gently. Also I would’ve really like to have seen Moira face the consequences of her behavior. Firing her wasn’t enough... she deserved a lot more grief than that... Definitely need to go read more by this author!! She’s genuinely talented!!!

I’ve only read one other book by this author but I liked it enough to check out this one. And I’m so glad I did. Something about Stephanie Fournet’s writing resonates with me, and I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve spent in her worlds, and I feel like I’ve really connected with her characters.

NICUnurse’s Rating: While the book is marketed as a romantic comedy, the story has so much more depth to it than the blurb would lead you to believe. Yes, Iris is funny and snarky and awkward. But her and Beau’s pasts, as well as their presents, supply major challenges when it comes to finding, accepting, and keeping love. There are some heavy issues both characters deal with throughout the story. And while their chemistry is undeniable, with a bad first impression, the relationship was a slow but steady build. Beau is the epitome of a Southern gentleman. I loved his commitment to his family and how much love and respect he had for his community as well as his roots in the Cajun culture. However, my favorite parts of this book were all the scenes where he’s able to pull Iris out of her own head and insecurities so that she’s able to be in those moments and truly enjoy them to their fullest. If you love a small-town romance that is fun-and funny-even when the characters are dealing with some heavy-duty issues, I think you’ll really enjoy this book.

I give Two-Step by Stephanie Fournet 5 out of 5 stars!

Toe Tapping Goodness!

Stephanie Fournet has done it again! This book was fantastically written and managed to touch on so many topics that are important today! Diversity, Alzheimer's, culture preservation, economic gaps, emotional abuse, body image/food issues, etc. and how one can triumph to love and be loved. Beau and Iris, Ramon and Sally, Nonc and Loraine show us the beauty of how love grows and sustains. A very deep bow to you, Ms. Fournet.

I adored Stephanie Fournet's "Two-Step," a funny, sweet, heartwarming, and heartbreaking story that I highly recommend for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy.

Main characters Beau and Iris were both very likeable, and the slow burn as their relationship transitioned from enemies to lovers was fantastic. The challenges they faced seemed real and relatable, so it was very easy for me to root for them to overcome them. They both had so much resting on their shoulders! Beau was juggling his job as a high school French teacher, caring for his mother, helping his uncle with the family dance studio, and his involvement in various societies dedicated to keeping the Cajun language and culture alive. Iris's commitments as an up-and-coming actress were just as numerous, but she was also dealing with unnecessary stress caused by her momager Moira's unreasonable demands.

I usually think of actresses as being very poised and graceful, so it was a bit surprising to me how clumsy and awkward Iris could be. It certainly made her more relatable, however. She was funny and a little snarky sometimes, but most importantly she genuinely cared about those around her and remained down-to-earth despite her success. Beau was equally caring and kind, though he seemed somewhat reserved until Iris got to know him. He was a true Southern gentleman, and I loved the little things he did to show Iris he cared, such as making sure she had a snack before each of their dance lessons.

There were some serious moments in this book, but there were at least as many laugh-out-loud funny moments, such as Iris's discussion of waxing with her assistant Ramon and best friend Sally in the first chapter. I really enjoyed the secondary romance between Sally and Ramon too; they were great friends to Iris and tremendously entertaining as supporting characters. Beau's "nonc" (Cajun for "uncle") was a lot of fun too.

In sum, "Two-Step" gave me all the feels, and I loved it. I can't wait to see what Stephanie Fournet writes next.

This book *le sigh* sooo good. What I love about SF is that she writes with so much heart, she writes about people I want to have a conversation with because damn they seem cool and genuine. Her hero is soft spoken, kind of shy, wears his heart on his sleeve...dreamy... Beau is all these things and more. Iris is similarly amazing; girl after my own heart, down to earth, empathic, riddled with self doubt (but who isn’t these days) until she finds her strength with the help of Beau. The story is beautiful, this is my top fav read of 2021 hands down.

I'm reviewing books in bulk after couple months of solely reading/listening - I remember enjoying both Iris and Beau's characters a lot. Their story was, of course, lovely, but I also appreciated how real their families and friends were.

Life isn't easy nor is it magical, but Iris and Beau were able to find some sort of peace together. Too often books in this genre end with everything working out macigally and for good, and I was so happy this one didn't. The abuse, the sickness, the grief - none of it went away, instead, they decided they wanted to work through it all together.

I think I'm about to do a deep dive into all things Stephanie Founet. She writes exclusively about Lafayette, LA, and her characters are real and lovely and very low drama, which I appreciate. I've read Kind of Cursed by her about a million times, and I think this one has a similar future. Beau is a French teaching Cajun who teaches dance and lives in a tiny house that he built himself. Despite working in two fields that are heavily female dominated, somehow he's single.

Iris is a movie star who needs dance lessons.

They meet and sparks fly.

I think I'm going to start keeping track of my favorite tropes in my reviews.
Sick Scene: X
Rescue Scene: ❤️
Knows her Coffee/ Food Needs: ❤️
Is there a Dog: ❤️

3.5 stars rounded up. I enjoyed this fine enough, but not as much as I enjoyed "Kind of Cursed"

I liked the dancing and I found the characters sincere, Beau's sadness over his mother's early demantia, and Iris' frustration with her own mother because of the extreme control she was trying to have on Iris' life were relatable. The romance between Iris' best friend and assistant was sweeet, too.

But this book lacked something. I don't even know what it is, but something was off with the romance, it felt as if Iris want into the relationship tp rebel against her mother, and Beau agreed because he didn't have anything half as exciting in his life. Also, Beau kept saying that Iris at 22 was too young, which made me picture him as a middle aged man on more than one occasion, despite knowing it for a fact that he himself was only 27.

Entertaining and charming story. A new to me author I’d happily read more from.
Unfortunately this audiobook didn’t do it for me. Partly due to the ongoing narrative of a parent with rapid onset Alzheimer’s- which hits me a little to close to home.
Another factor was the narration.
Usually a fantastic narrator, Aidan Snow is an absolute favourite of mine BUT since the MMC is a French teacher brought up speaking Cajun French he would have needed to actually KNOW French or at least fake it enough to let a native speaker (like me) understand what he’s saying 😣🫣 So after suffering through quite a few chapters I had to toss in the towel. DNF.

More like 4.5 stars, half a star off because her friends kinda stank for the way they treated the main character when they decided they wanted to be together, it just didn't sit right with me. Also, when he decided to make the rash decision to end it for her instead of discussing things or asking for time to think. Overall though, I loved it and don't have a single bad thing to say. The ending with the wedding and the mom...let me tell you as soon as I saw the song choice for the dance with his mom it was over for me, I was bawling my eyes out. F*ck Iris' mom, obvi. Ugh, I loved it. 💗

Finally a woman that doesn't have to give up all her dreams to get the man. The man actually uproots his life, and not the other way around.
That's why it gets 5 stars from me.

Both characters are lovable after he stops being an ass towards her. I'm glad that happens right at the beginning, because his attitude at the beginning is awful. At least he owns that though and is truly sorry.

The rest of the story is cute.

I feel like a grump. Two Step was cute, but when the turning point comes and the characters fall in love and then break up (because they always do) and then a few chapters later the book ends with them getting back together (because it’s inevitable), it just kinda brings down my enjoyment of the book. Idk.

Like I said, it’s a cute book, but I probably wouldn’t read it again.

5 Cajun lovin' stars!

This is a beautifully written story. I fell in love with all the main and supporting characters (except Moira of course). I felt very emotionally invested in Beau and Iris, and it was hard to put this down.to do normal human stuff like eat and go to the bathroom. This author is awesome. This title is definitely goIng on my favorites list! Loved it

I really enyojed the book itself even though it could‘ve been a bit more edited. 3.5 stars
But DO NOT do the audiobook! While Aiden Snow, the male narrator, is amazing, the female narrator, Stephanie Wyles, does a horrible job! Its so robotic and really disjointed.
