Rate this book
Born in the final days of Nazi Germany, an underground organization is alive, growing, and manipulating events in our world today …

The survivor of a secret German experiment in 1943, Roger Greene possesses a unique physiology. To this day, his body remains youthful and heals quickly. In exchange for information about the mysterious Heritage Organization that Roger once escaped, the CIA has given him a new identity and pulled strings to get him into the modern U.S. Air Force.

Now, Roger’s main thrills are serving his country in an F-35 and spending time with Katherine, the love of his life. Suddenly, the CIA shows up and drops a bombshell—evidence that Sophie, the woman who Roger believed had died helping him escape, is alive. The Heritage Organization is holding her and others prisoner in an unknown location.

Honor-bound to rescue the woman who risked her life for him, Roger accepts temporary duties with the CIA. But just when the mission is already straining his relationship with Katherine, Roger becomes a murder suspect. A fugitive, he continues the mission to find Sophie alone. What he discovers lands this pilot deep inside a shadowy network intent on world domination.

Will Roger’s faith carry him through this quest—or will those tracking him succeed in snuffing out his long life once and for all?

A sensational standalone story, Rick Barry’s sequel to The Methuselah Project launches you into an unforgettable journey through danger, suspense, hope, and love—an experience that will keep you turning pages well into the night!

As a partially stand-alone sequel to "The Methuselah Project" Rick Barry takes you on a one of a kind journey with Rodger Greene and Katherine Mueller as they dodge bullets, see doubles, fight what seems to be each other, and try to find a way to have a romance when things don't go as expected.

I enjoy the way that Barry brought the characters we previously met in the first book to life in a real way, the suspense was spot on, and the romance sweet.

With subjects that I don't normally, or should say, haven't really thought about in this way, I found that I still very much liked the story.

Due to content, this book is better for 17 up.

Recommend for those that enjoy WWII fiction, superheroes, sci-fi, and suspense.

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

When the synopsis says this book will keep readers turning pages long into the night, it means it.  I was fascinated by the prose, the ease with which the plot developed (and thickened), and I had an absolute blast reading it.  If you're a fan of Marvel, you'll want to read this book.  It's an interesting and very original Christian twist on superhuman capabilities a-la Captain America (and then some; and more believable as well!)  The book was fast-paced and held my interest very easily.  I did stumble a little bit with reading one early chapter, but I think that's largely because this is the second book in a series and I hadn't read the first one yet! It was still pretty easy to follow.  Now that I've read this one, I'm definitely going to pick up the first book as well.  The way the story blended sci-fi with reality was flawless.  The plot was fast-paced through the entire novel, right to the very end.

Overall, this book really made my nerdy heart happy and I'm glad I took the opportunity to read it!  I'm definitely looking forward to subsequent novels by Barry, hopefully in the Methuselah Project vein!

The book starts out a couple of years after the last one. Though I don't normally lean toward historical fiction, I enjoyed the first book and was glad to see there was a sequel coming out.

My favorite parts about the book were the fact that Roger trusted in God to get him out of some tight spots, and the different languages that the author had people speaking (even though the hero didn't magically understand all of them😁).

Content: PG-13

Romantic: Kissing, suggestive conversations, and inappropriate advancements from bad guys.

Action: Shooting, explosions, fighting, torture, etc.

Language: Nothing that I was bothered by.

I was given an ecopy for an honest review. A positive review was not required.

So glad The Methuselah Project S.O.S. is out! I've been looking forward to this book it seems like forever. Roger Greene is such an interesting character. And we get to find out what happened to Sophie, the woman who helped him escape.

This story has twists and turns that will keep you up way into the night! I hope there will soon be another one in the series. I was privileged to receive a copy of The Methuselah Project S.O.S. before it released and have since purchased a copy--I liked it that well.

Ok, Rick Barry hit one out of the park again! Enjoyed this thrilling wild ride of sci-fi fantasy, faith, romance and intrigue immensely. The author’s knowledge of WW2 history, Russian language and geography, and survival tactics just kept me turning pages. You need to read but best if preceded by his Methuselah Project.

Now a captain in the Air Force, Roger Greene loves spending his days in the cockpit while helping with a top-secret military project. So when the CIA asks him to leave this perfect life for a temporary government mission against the Heritage Organization, he turns the offer down—until he hears a name from his past. Motivated by a duty now personal as well as civil, Roger agrees to go on the assignment that will place him—and the woman he loves—in greater danger than ever before.

The Methuselah Project was a fabulous book. But SOS takes “fabulous” to the next level, with higher stakes, multiple plot twists, and (I thought) even more humor than the first book.

I specifically enjoyed the following parts of this sequel:

The tension
The stakes were high enough in The Methuselah Project, but in SOS the overall tension and urgency increase, both for the individual characters and on the global scale. The stakes kept rising even within the book, which held my attention as “This is bad” went to “This is really bad” to “This is really REALLY bad.” I could not put this book down.

Additionally, SOS offers not just one but several plot twists, one leading to the other like a chain detonation, that left me reeling. Near the end of the book I gave up even trying to predict who would do what or what would because it was obvious whatever I expected wasn’t going to happen. But I loved it—there’s something satisfying about a good twist in a story. (Or a few good twists.)

More subtle but just as gripping was the romantic tension between Roger and Katherine throughout the story. While at various points I wanted to slap both of them upside the head, I couldn’t really because in their place I would probably do the same thing. Their behavior was perfectly natural, and albeit maddening, it did make me want to keep reading in hopes of an eventual reconciliation.

The realism
The author fills in his story with all sorts of little details: quick-thinking survival skills, makeshift booby traps, last-minute hiding places, and more. I was thoroughly impressed by the author’s research and learned some pretty cool things!

The author also includes entire phrases and sometimes sentences of foreign languages, all short enough and in context that we understand the gist of what’s being said. I loved “hearing” the language itself as opposed to reading “He said something in German.” Great authenticity.

The depth
This book shows us both extremes of humanity: its very best in the protagonists and its very worst in the Heritage Organization. Granted, the main characters aren’t perfect, and they don’t make perfect choices. But they want to do right, and their motivations and actions give us a glimpse of the highest morality possible among humans.

Then we get to the Heritage Organization, whose evil members and inhuman projects plunge into the deepest, darkest potential of the same human soul. Though based on speculation, these projects aren’t far removed from reality (if removed at all), and I think that’s why I found them so repulsive. Though a work of fiction, SOS accurately exposes the best and the worst sides of humanity and then lets readers decide which side they’ll choose.

The humor
The Methuselah Project made me laugh, but I’m pretty sure SOS made me laugh even more. One part in particular had me DYING—in public. I was waiting for a friend in a café and had to stop reading more than once because I was laughing so hard. Kudos to the author for fabulous humor and wit. These light moments balance the tension nicely, and who doesn’t like a book that will give some hearty (and clean) laughs?

The ending
At first I was disappointed by how Roger ends the book. I was also worried about him and sorry for the change to his character. But the more it sank in, the more I appreciated it and felt relief rather than disappointment. (To say why would give spoilers, so I’ll stop here.) It was bittersweet to me, but I savored it all the same.

The faith
I liked seeing Roger’s trust in God and seeing God work in divine but realistic ways. There were evident answers to prayer that affirmed his trust and can prove to readers that even in a fiction story God is real, hears our prayers, works on our behalf, and is/would be good and trustworthy no matter what happens.

I also appreciated another character’s prayers and budding trust. The way these characters reached out to God was appropriate to their personalities and circumstances (and appropriate to the story, without digressing into sermons or spiritual treatises), and the way they saw God’s responses, acknowledged them to Him, and grew because of them was truly a blessing to read.

Overall, I highly recommend The Methuselah Project: SOS to any mature teen or adult looking for a gripping read with high stakes, realistic characters, laugh-out-loud humor, and faith-based themes.

(I was given an advance copy in exchange for an honest review, but I certainly will be buying my own copy!)

I read the first book in this series years ago and when I started reading about this book before I picked it up I knew that they were about the same man and I remembered how much I hated where the story ended. I had wanted to know more! And now we finally do!

You are definitely going to want to read these books in order. You’re going to be very lost if you just pick up this book and don’t have the backstory of who Roger is and what he escaped from. It is quite the story and really sets the stage for this book.

When you think of this series think of a Marvel movie but a Christian fiction one instead. That’s what it is. Roger is like Captain America but he’s the Christian hero version.

I do have to say that I enjoyed seeing Sophie again as we spent a lot of time with her in book one though it’s a bit awkward in book two since Roger has a relationship with Katherine. It definitely gives the book some interesting bits.

You’re going to see lots of humor and suspense in this story. There are multiple plots that get intertwined. This is one of those books that you’re not going to be able to set down and that’s okay! I highly recommend it but do read book one first so you get the full experience.

This is the second novel in a series and, while it reads rather well on its own, the earlier book should be read first to fully appreciate this one. Back story is provided along the way so I did understand what happened in the first novel by the time I finished this one.

The plot is one where a devious group wants to control the world. With origins in WW II, advanced biological experiments on humans are being done. And only one man, it seems, can save the world from evil domination.

There is plenty of action in this novel. I like the hero's innovative spirit, managing to outwit the bad guys with everyday objects and ingenuity. There is also good character development with introspective sections given in between suspenseful scenes. I like that there is a clear Christian message included. This is a good book for readers who like a somewhat common man pitted against evil forces to save mankind.

Roger has to face down the memories of past trauma by returning to where it all began.

The story is a constant suspenseful tale fraught with danger and unexpected situations. Roger uses his past training and cunning to adapt. Prayer and faith also help him through.

I enjoyed this one as much as the first one I read. The characters are even more fleshed out, strength and flaws alike.

The book is fast-paced, and at times, a jaw-dropping story that leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Methuselah Project S.O.S. takes readers on a daring rescue set shortly after WWII. Rick Barry created likable characters (and a few unlikeable ones) whose personal quirks and background provide challenges for them each step of the way. I enjoyed the suspense and characters very much and recommend it as a fun read for the holidays or summer vacation. I received a complimentary copy of the book in advance of its publication, but this review is my own assessment.

Roger is back, and he's taking his life back, too. Finally on American soil again, he's enjoying his new identity and position as a captain on the Air Force (the title of Captain making him even more like Captain America...), with a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend, Katherine, who has an exciting new job opportunity happening in her life, too. But when the CIA contacts him to return to European soil on a mission to rescue the woman who helped save him, everything gets all mixed up.

I loved seeing more Roger and Katherine together, as well as see the banter with their nerdy teammates. It was also fun to see more of the Heritage Organization's inner workings, those responsible for the plots, and what it's like for more prisoners of the HO like Roger once was just trying to survive.

The story had plenty of action, espionage, and sci-fi twists. The romantic tension was there, with me trying to figure out with Katherine why Roger hadn't proposed yet (something I'd been wondering since book one, actually), and then me trying to understand with Roger why Katherine was so upset. And wondering how the damsel in distress was going to fit in.

If you like books that have all of the above, and don't fit in the cookie cutter of most Christian fiction, as well as enjoy anything similar to Captain America like me, then this series is for you.

I received a copy of this book from the author, but the views and opinions are my own.

Olivia Porter;
I have read the book before S.O.S this one, and I'm telling you it truly lives up to its potential.
There are lots of twists and turns. It keeps you on your toes throughout the whole thing. Introducing New characters re-introducing old ones. Like I'm sure everyone else' Roger Greene is probably my favorite. But there are some pretty cool new characters too!
I'm going to tell everyone about this book! (I already got some friends to add Methuselah Project S.O.S to their book list.)
The author is full of imagination and has a GREAT ability to put it down on paper.
He also can tie History (World War II) with fiction.
One thing I love most about this book is that it has a strong emphasis on faith. You can't go through one chapter without roger Greene looking up at the sky and thanking the Lord for what He's brought him through. One of my favorite quotes in the book is. "I'm flying over uncharted territory with no radar. I don't have a prayer. He paused. A prayer is all was the only thing he did have.
Dear Lord, you're my hope. Show me what to do." Chapter 25. Page 165.
This book shows you that you can go through anything in life with the Lord's help, Whether it's family struggles, relationships with loved ones, just everyday normal. Even if Roger Greene's normal is jumping out of an airplane or having superhuman abilities, that lets him live over 100.
Whatever it is BIG or small, the Lord is always there to pick you up when your falling short.
"Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand." Psalms 37:24 KJV
I want to thank the author of the book for giving us a place to go while the world is crashing down around us. Keep on doing what you're doing because you're making a lot of people happy!

What an out of the box story for a hero who has been around for seventy years and doesn't look like he left his twenties. This is the second story that tracks our hero, Roger Greene, as he is thrown back into action to try to take down the organization that made him a science experiment.

Roger is doing what he loves best, flying planes in the Air Force when the CIA requires him to help them on a secret mission. Roger is reluctant at first till he finds out that Sophie, the woman who sacrificed her life is still alive. Roger owes her a debt of gratitude and with personal experience knows how evil these goons are.

He is going on this mission with his girlfriend, Katherine, the woman he wants to marry. She was also involved with this unethical organization and had gotten out of it. There is some petty jealousy and romantic drama on Katherine's part. She does not understand the depth of Roger's feelings for her. But all of that has to be put on the back burner as they do not know who to trust and not to trust.

Sophie is in grave danger and living as a prisoner inside this group of crazies is making even her waking moments a living nightmare. Will she and the other scientists be saved?

There was some unexpectedness in this story that shocked me and sometimes like Roger I didn't know what in the world was going on. Especially since it seemed everyone was keeping secrets and being hush hush. This is an interesting suspense thriller with a little science fiction thrown in to make the story riveting.

I was provided a copy of this novel by the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed the first book and was excited to read this follow up book. The author demonstrates how to maneuver a story rich in danger, intrigue and action. I love how we get to know the main characters in a deeper way. Their main goal is to survive and find freedom. I know if I went to a lab and saw bodies floating in a tube I would run as fast as I could. The author gives details that make it easy to visualize the scenes unfold right before your eyes.

The idea of cloning is an uneasy feeling as the main character discovers secrets about himself and a project that could change the human race. I cringed just thinking what power does to a person. Wanting to be in control can destroy the world as we know it if the project succeeds. Roger is determined to stop the evil that is trying to take over. He is desperate to save someone special to him and finds himself asking God for help. There is a definite theme of trusting God weaved throughout the story.

The ending is packed with action and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I read as fast as I could to find out what would happen next. I encourage readers to look at the questions provided by the author at the end of the book. One in particular stood out to me. It talks about a character that would “stay in charge of his own destiny.” It makes me take a deeper look at my faith. Do I trust God with my destiny, or do I think I can do things on my own?

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Methuselah Project S.O.S. is written by Rick Barry. It is a Christian suspense book. It seems to be a continuation of the Methuselah Project book - since there seem to be some familiar characters. I have not read the first book, but the author does a good job filling in the back story. This book is geared toward anyone that is 17 years and up.
In this story you will be thrust into action and suspense. Roger Greene, who had survived secret German experiments during WWII, is still feeling the effects of them. He remains youthful. His body can heal quickly. Once he gets out, he is given a new identity and able to get into the AirForce. Roger loves serving his country. He has put his past behind him…. Or so he thinks. Then a bombshell. The CIA shows up on his doorstep. They drop some life changing news. A woman, Sophie that helped him escape is actually alive. He then sets on a journey to try and help her out. This is where your heart will be pounding the rest of the story. A lot of stuff goes wrong - and all of a sudden Roger is working on his own.
This story has well developed characters ( I will be going back and reading the other book). It has a story line that will pull you in from the beginning. I enjoyed having my heart pound through the majority of this book. Carve out a chunk of time to read this, for when you start it you will not want to put it down.

To be honest, this isn't my usual type of read. I'm not huge on books with a sci-fi element... or at the very least, I'm quite picky about them anyway. As such, I'm perhaps not the ideal audience. Still, I can appreciate good storytelling when I see it and Rick Barry certainly knows how to tell a good story.

Methuselah Project S.O.S. is a follow up to the author's previous novel The Methuselah Project, but was written as a standalone as well. It is my understanding that characters were previously introduced, but having never read the first one, I can say that it didn't feel like I was missing anything at all. Right from the very start, the stakes are clear in this high paced read... it certainly kept me on my toes wondering what might happen next. I enjoyed the elements of faith that were weaved so well into the story as well. Again, this might not be my preferred genre or a book that I would have typically chosen for myself, but I found it to be enjoyable nonetheless. This is one that fans of sci-fi/fantasy suspense are going to want to check out.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

Roger loves his job flying planes and avoiding the modern world. However, Roger is asked to join a task force to help a friend who has reached out to him, he questions whether he can face the organization that performed experiment after experiment on him. When Roger decides to return the favor of rescue, will his faith be enough to help him?

This book is a sequel, and it did not disappoint. The book was full of adventure and suspense with twists and turns in the plot. Although I had not read the first book, I was able to follow the book very easily. I would like to now go back and read the first one since this one was so good.

I love when faced with big situations, Roger turned to God rather than his fears. He knew God had put him there for a reason and he was willing to see the situation as an opportunity. Not many might see some of Roger’s situation as an opportunity! What a life changer would be if we would follow his example.

I would highly recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope - Martin Luther King, JR

Sit on the edge of your seat, hold your breath and get ready for a crazy ride! The author brings back Roger Greene, the man who never grows old, for a new mission - whether he wants to be involved or not. The incredible ingenuity that Roger brings to Operation Gondor will have you cheering from the sideline. With a great deal of detail, we learn all about the Heritage Organization and what nefarious plans they are working on now.

There are fires, old bombs, underground labs and secrets galore, all of which will keep the reader wondering whether or not the mission can possibly succeed. With people who aren’t who they pretend to be and those thought dead that somehow have survived, the action in this book never ends. Will the Methuselah project have another installment? Who knows....

"Methuselah Project S.O.S." by Rick Barry is the second book. I recommend reading the first book first to get the full impact. This book is full of actions, faith and romance and surprises. This is another story that is fiction but could be real. I think both women and men would like these books. I think that is a surprise because most stories about planes and spies, I think wouldn't appeal to females but I enjoyed them and they kept me reading till the end. Again, these books are ones that I wouldn't pick to check out from the library but I again have to say Thank you to the author for giving me a contemporary copy of the second book.
Once again, I say these books would make great movies, especially my husband who likes WWII planes and stories about WWII.

You might think that the books might be a little technical but they aren't so if a reader would like to try a different book than normal, than I recommend these.

I received a contemporary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.

Methuselah Project S.O.S. is the second installment from the Methuselah Project series by Rick Barry. Since this is the first book I have read by this author and not reading the start of the series, I believe readers can get by reading this one as a stand alone. However, I do plan going back to see what happened prior to this one. I thought this was a great story. It was like riding a roller coaster. It was full of action and adventure with some unpredictable twists and turns. I loved it from start to finish.
Methuselah Project S.O.S. is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading fast paced thrilling reads. I will be looking forward of getting my hands on the first book in the series, The Methuselah Project and am hoping there will be a third book in the future, as well.

Remembering the intrigue of Rick Barry’s original Methuselah novel, I anticipated another thrilling and intriguing suspense adventure. I definitely was not disappointed. The author amazingly combined a variety of settings and authentic personnel to equip this compelling story, which will keep you on the edge all the way through. When you combine a wide-reaching organization that seeks world domination with gritty characters who want to thwart that goal and save those in their clutches, you have the makings of great drama. I think it would make a good film too. It contains all the elements readers enjoy. We follow Airman Roger Greene, once held prisoner and experimented on by the Nazis, as he attempts to fight and stop the very group that stole seventy years of his life. Fans of Timeless and Clive Cussler should enjoy this book either on its own or as the sequel to the first of the dynamic duo. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

With fast action and unique characters, Rick Barry invites his readers back to the story of Roger Greene and the Methuselah Project that went wrong in World War II. If readers are familiar with the first story, Methuselah Project, they will be delighted to return to the horrors of the science of World War II that went on behind the scene. Today, even the science has gone a little crazy. I really enjoyed how fast the action is. It really takes your breathe away. I enjoyed how Barry had a little romance between Roger and Katherine, but it really did not take away from the constant action. I enjoyed these two novels and pray that God still gives Barry more ideas to craft unique stories with the action that I crave.

This is apparently in a series so I would suggest reading the other book first. That being said, I did feel that the author did a good job of giving back story so you weren't too lost. I wasn't sure this was going to be a book for me but it turned out that I really enjoyed it. The author obviously knows the time period.

The characters are well done. I really liked Roger and his faith. I'm really intrigued by the premise of the previous book so I will go and check it out because I truly enjoyed this story. The author has a unique wasy of telling a story that just makes you feel like a part of it all.

It was a 4/5 for me.

Perhaps because my husband serves in the military, I enjoy reading books involving the military. This book lived up to my expectations and wishes. I enjoyed the twists and turns this story took, and the way the characters developed as I was reading this book. I also appreciated the part faith played in Roger’s life.

As far, as I remember I did not read the first book in the series but had no difficulty following along. However, I plan on going back and reading the first one again. I definitely feel you will benefit from reading the books in order.

So if you enjoy reading books with spies, intrigue, adventure, romance, and faith being tested check out this book for yourself. I definitely enjoyed it.

Wow. This actually has twists. I couldn't see what was coming next in many places. It's the type of book you don't want to put down and I didn't know I missed the first book in series. This book stood alone well enough. While I'm not so big on war stories, this one is spellbinding. It has some Sci-Fi feel, along with heroes, war, and suspense. Faith elements were not tossed aside, but the superhero aspects were well done. The characters were interesting and I now would like (no, I think that's a need!), more of this series.

Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my copy of this book. This review is my own, left freely. A positive review wasn't required.

Wow, what a ride! I loved the first Methuselah Project book and its sequel did not disappoint! Author Rick Barry picks up Roger Greene’s story pretty much where the first one left off, but this time we go back to Europe to confront the Organization again. Why would Roger want to return to the same scary H.O. that he escaped from? That’s what you’ll find out when you read this newest release from Rick Barry, The Methuselah Project S.O.S.
P.S. I hope there’s another book coming in this series!!

*I received an advanced copy of this book. All reviews and opinions are my own.

Read the first book and enjoy it. Grabbed this continuation when I received the chance from the author. Great stuff. My kind of adventure novel. A little romance, a lot of action, and mostly a real hero, called a boy scout, in the sense of Captain America. May Roger Greene live long ... ger.
Yes, I'm entirely taken by the concept of the Methuselah Project. The idea of the Heritage Organization, not so much. If Roger Greene is fiction, I sure hope they are too.

I haven't encountered a book quite like this one before. As a superhero (Marvel/DC Comics fan) this book immediately made me think of Captain America as the basis of it is pretty similar. This is the sequel to "The Methuselah Project but it can be read as a stand alone novel. I didn't have any problems following the story or who the characters were.

The characters definitely see a lot of action and the book is very fast paced so it definitely holds your interest. There is even some romance amongst all the suspense!

Overall I thought it was a pretty good read even if its was out of my comfort zone as far as genres go. If you enjoy WWII fiction, sci-fi, superheroes all with a Christian twist then this is definitely the book for you!

Rating; 3.5 Stars!

I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This sequel was a great addition to the original. It continued very shortly after the first and kept with the twists and turns from the first book. It keeps you on your toes until the last page. The ending is bittersweet but is open ended just in case. This was a great Christian historical fiction book.

Great book!

So many books have cursing and non essential violence to bolster the evil details that just aren't necessary. It's refreshing to read a Christian author with a fantastic gift of storytelling?. Thank you Rick. On to book 2!
