Does a great job of defining how a feather-based bird identification guide should be, although it is not targetted for forensic purposes, might not work with fragments - for use in BASH studies. The graphical and quantitative approaches to defining variation in feather lengths are excellent, as are the attempts to create a uniform approach to describing patterns. Unfortunately these may not be straightforward for extending to other parts of the world where some odd birds may have unusual feather / integumentary structures.
