Riley Rivers has been writing since they were a wee thing and aspires to be That Person who regularly sits in coffeeshops with a laptop and knows all the baristas. They are well on their way to achieving this dream.
These books are so cute! This one ended a little sooner than I would have liked though and left some unanswered questions regarding side plot stuff but it was still worth the read for sure.
I have loved this series so much. Each book has hurt/comfort and it's been so good.
This was the first one without a dangerous villain as part of the story, just Cassidy's anxiety over getting too attached. While I absolutely loved this, the reason why he is so adverse to being attached is never explained.
So...here is the deal. This was a very good story, but it didn't fulfill my curiosity. Cassidy is works at a coffee shop and Jason works two jobs as a food delivery man and works at a gym. Both men are capable of being more than their jobs belie. Cassidy got a degree in physics and Jason is from a wealthy of a family of clothes designers. He is not allowed to use his art and designing skills to help with the family business and is pretty much made fun of by his whole family. Cassidy wants only sex in a relationship with no personal attachments. His behavior would indicate at least one trauma in his past relationships, to the point he has PTSD behavior. I kept reading waiting to have why his behavior was so distraught, not wanting to kiss or have personal touch after sex, but alas, it was not to be. Jason's desire to be a designer for his family business is never realized, although it would have been a perfect ending to this story. There is an HEA for the two men, but I felt my HEA never quite got there.
I loved this so much. The relationship between the MCs was so adorable and the sex was freakin hot. I only wish it was longer! I would've LOVED to read about Jason pursuing his art and fashion dreams, and Cassidy being his bratty muse, working at the coffee shop or whatever he wants. And if Jason got a chance to catch up with Briar and offer his support. Or if Ben got a suit and how his presentations went. Like, I'm legit invested but these books are so short!
I've just binged this whole series today and enjoyed the easy, fun little stories... but ngl, this last one was a bit of a disappointment. I was enjoying it on about the same level as the others up until the "big" climactic confrontation at the end about , but the complete lack of any actual climax there sort of ruined it. Like, literally the only conflict in the whole book is the thing I just hid as a spoiler, and then at the end it's just like, "so quit doing that okay?" to which he, in essence, replies "okay." AND THAT'S IT. Now they're together, happy, and mates. Also, side note while I'm in a less than thrilled mood thanks to the let down of this last book: there was never any real point - or at least not the expected plot arc point - to the conflict with Jason's family. It never got resolved and he never got any moment to shine and show them up for their shitty treatment of him. Nor did Cassidy having his moment of ranting about his real feelings to Jason's cousins for a hot second ever amount to anything. And FINALLY - lol, yes, I'm really ranting now - while I did enjoy this series despite the way this last book fizzled, this was a shifter series, and for the most part, that aspect of the characters' existence was never a real part of the story. CHARACTERS RARELY SHIFTED. A pack was mentioned - not in this one, but in either Book 2 or 3 or both iirc - in regard to Damien's sense of obligation/attachment to Cassidy and Tommy - but that's literally all it was. A couple mentions that "they were pack" in passing, but absolutely no indication that the pack was really a thing, or meaningful, or played a part in their lives in any way. Which was... fine. Not all shifter worlds have to follow the same conventions, and maybe this author just wanted to play around with the extra-normal aspects of heightened sense of smell etc, which she did incorporate into the storyline, but other than that, it was like, what was the actual point of even making these characters paranormal? Anyway, I'll quit ranting and just end this by saying that, given that this series didn't have an overarching series plot arc, I probably would have been happier reading just the first three and skipping this last one, but I do still enjoy the quick-n-easy low-angst romance style for when I'm in that kind of mood, and will still happily check out this author's other books despite my disappointment with this particular one.
Super cute, cross species, FWB/Fake boyfriend story. One of our guys has a small secret, but the angst is low and the story fun. This read as a standalone, but I definitely will go back and read the other books in the series when I am in need of a light fluffy read.
For me this was by far the best of the 4 books in this series and it was mostly because the author finally did a short story romance the right way (at least in my opinion). The two main characters knew each other before the book started & already have history so you get right to them being together & there’s no need for chapters having the couple meet. For this length I think that’s the only true way you can have a couple in love after such a short amount of time. Although, the end is still a bit abrupt for me and I wasn’t satisfied with the ending – I think a lot more could have been said & revealed by each character about their love for each other. The author doesn’t really explain why Cassidy gets so emotional after sex to the point that he cries in his sleep – that really felt like there was some kind of past trauma to me, but the author just explains it as Cassidy being the needy type. And, if a book ever needed an epilogue it was this one. We get zero information about what Jason will do in regards to his artistic talents. I needed at least one chapter in which he tells Cassidy about his fashion designing dreams & Cassidy encourages him to open up his own shop. Seriously a huge missed opportunity. But, for a story that was low angst that I could read in a day with writing that didn’t annoy me – I’ll take that any day.
I liked this series but this one bugged me. It had one thing I hate, the overbearing family that beats down one of their own "because they care". And are snooty as hell. Although I'm not sure Jason's family did care, or even pretend to. So I had trouble with that and there wasn't even a big show-down where he tells them to fuck off and never contact him again. I didn't mind that he was rich (trust fund) and didn't tell Cassidy. I mean, they were just friend (uh-huh) who slept together so why would he.
However Cassidy, woo boy. He had serious issues about giving equally specifically in bed. If he wanted to be cuddled after that meant he was asking for more and it was unbalanced. It was orgasm for orgasm and that's all. He couldn't seem to grasp that maybe his partner wanted to be cuddled. And to have an absolute emotional breakdown every night after sex was unusual. But there was no background as to why he felt this way. His older brother didn't appear to have this problem. There was no mention of abusive past family or even exes who might have criticized him for this. It was a very weird quirk to have that kind of drove him.
So between those two things, I just didn't enjoy it as much. *shrug*
I like this book well enough, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. The main plot was easy to see coming, so there were really no surprises there. I felt like the character of Jason was super uneven across the series, and he often talks about how Cassidy's older brother Damien doesn't like him. When we meet Jason and Damien's book, he's super unlikable, and even though he helps Damien bring about justice, he's very gruff and sort of creepy, and I was really put off by a scene that they have together where Jason delivers food to Damien because that's his job. The characters in this series, especially in books 3 and 4, were pretty uneven and didn't really feel like they had a lot of continuity with the first time they were introduced, so that was something I struggled with.
Also, Jason has an entire storyline with his posh fashion designer family and their expectations for him, and none of that is really dealt with in the resolution of the story, which felt like a huge faux pas. One aspect of the story of resolved in regard to his growing feelings for cassidy, but it felt very incomplete and like the story really wasn't done justice at all.
As a recommendations, I really did like the first book, but my favorite and the series is definitely book two.
Omg babies t.t both of them holy crap. I need like another 100+ pages of them so badly. Need Cassidy telling Jason's family to get bent. Need the start of Jason's fashion brand that will destroy his family's. I need so muchhhhhh more! I love them both. This is series is so good.
It wasn't bad but lacked the edge to make it stand out in comparison to other fake relation stories out there. Also the ending felt rushed, some conflicts remind unresolved, and some questions unanswered.
Why wasn't the issue with his family somehow resolved? He starts his own brand with his trust fund or ben funds it or something it feels unfinished but I loved the characters
Cute, but I wanted more. I gave this one 3.5 stars because I could connect with the characters more and you could tell that there was more substance to them besides the fact that they annoyed Damien. There was definitely things that I wish were more fleshed out but I definitely loved reading this book. One thing that I wanted fleshed-out was see Jason crush his family under his boot with his artistic style and stuff instead of just ending with the happily-ever-after romance. But I understand that would have been a longer book then what this author is known for.
The couple, plot (fake boyfriend meets the family), and story were interesting, with some bits of chemistry building between them. The ending seemed a bit anticlimactic, rolling a bit too easily to a conclusion.
Riley's stories are just a joy to read. Witty, funny and steamy make up the perfect balance for this unlikely pairing. I'm a fan of the fake-boyfriend trope and Riley does this really well. I liked getting to know more about both Jason and Cassidy, and I loved their back and forth and how well they fit each other. Jason was a great character; bold, smart and knows what he wants even of hos family won't let him have it. Cassidy was a little more of a mystery, but his heart was honest and loving. I wanted to know more about Cassidy's past and reasons why he is the way he is but I loved how Jason was able to break through his hard shell and care for the man underneath.
I found this one a bit steamier than Riley's previous stories and oh boy Jason and Cassidy are hot together. I loved the slow and honest progress of their fuck-buddies to fake-boyfriends to (fated) mates. They didn't take it at face value and once they were honest with each other and themselves they were able to bridge the gap and find what they'd both been looking for. I kind of wanted more of both of them and wanted to know how Jason's family would feel about their mate bond and wanted Jason to fight for his dreams, even against his family. All in all a steamy, fun and sexy shifter tale!!
The Werewolf's Brash Bear is the fourth book in the Supernatural Suburbia series by Riley Rivers but can be read as a standalone. It is a sweet story with a fake commitment turns real feel. The story has humor, drama, sweetness and steam. Cassidy and Jason are great and fun characters and I love how they interact together. This book made me smile.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation
Good series with the feel goods, the scary parts, then the ah-hah moment.
The four books tell the different stories of the characters in them. The shy meeting, the I want to get to know you and the sudden trouble and the solution be for the moment of happy revelation. I enjoyed each one.
I loved this book!! Very quick read!! Jason & Cassidy are the cutest couple. I want to read a part 2 to this story!! Great characters & a fun storyline that has you wishing & hoping for more!!
This was another great addition to the Supernatural Suburbia series. Cassidy and Jason were great characters, they were so sweet together and I love a fake relationship story. All in all a very enjoyable read.
What a book! This guys are... they ohhh I want to say but I do t give spoilers. I can say that, I didn't put it down. I couldn't put it down. The whole story flowed smoothly. Keep my interest. I believe its a book you'll want to keep and read again
