This books is truly indescribable. Luka made me cry a couple of times. It is a story about touching life of our captain.

A well written autobiography. I liked the style of writing which reminded me of André Pirlo's I Think Therefore I Play (another wonderfully written football autobiography). In this book, Modrić talks about his journey as a football player (obviously 🤣), the struggles he faced (he doesn't shy away from talking about them). But he also goes on to clear the
air about certain falsehoods regarding his
struggles such us his dad having used wood to make shins for him (as he could not afford to buy him new ones). He goes on to talk about his transfer from Dinamo to Tottenham and his time at Spurs. He mentions a failed move from Spurs to Chelsea. He then goes at length to talk about what went on prior to his move to Real from Spurs. Drama!
He talks about his experiences in the Croatian national team and gives analyses of the various international tournaments and qualifiers he took part in. He goes to great detail to talk about the 2018 FIFA World Cup and gives details about the tactical preparations for the different matches the team faced. I found the book enjoyable to read. A great

There is no contention that Modrics journey has been incredible and all the awards and recognitions have been well deserved.
But my review is purely for the book. The book is very well written. The writing of the book is almost as good as virtual reality.
The writing of the book makes you believe you are standing right by Luka's side as he takes you on a journey right from his childhood to Dinamo to Spurs to Madrid and then on the road to 2018.
Not only is the book well written, it is also honest. I have read biographies which more or less turn out to be just a 200 page 'thank you note'.
Modrics biography is not at all like that. It does delve into the uncomfortable moments, provides honest explanations and owns up for the mistakes.
I already fanboy'd Modric immensely before starting the book and now my fanboy(ism) has only increased several times over.

I picked this book up at the bookstore thinking that it would be a great way to learn more about a Croatian superstar & read more about football, which I love! He started out really strong by developing his story from his childhood experiences, and he finished out really strong by describing the details of the 2018 FIFA World Cup (I might have even shed a tear at the end). But the middle felt just like sharing random details with not much emotion attached to the story. All in all, a good read :)

Luka deserved to win a World Cup with Croatia, and I’ll forever be sad that he didn’t 😢 the final part of the book reliving the 2018 WC was probably the highlight of the book for me. What a time that was.

Luka Modrić to mój ulubiony piłkarz, więc raczej ocena tej książki nie jest obiektywna, ale pomimo tego, uważam, że to bardzo dobrze napisana autobiografia, pokazująca drogę Luki na sam szczyt. Opisuje w niej całe swoje życie (od trudnego, wojennego dzieciństwa aż do zdobycia Złotej Piłki), gorzkie i radosne chwile, które go ukształtowały jako człowieka i zawodnika. W książce jest też wiele opisów meczów, które fajnie się czyta (opisywane bramki Bale'a to aż sobie na YT oglądałam).
Polecam, nie tylko fanom piłki nożnej. Warto!

Odlična knjiga. Toliko se lako čita, ne možeš ju ispustiti iz ruku. Lukin životni put je prezanimljiv i način na koji ga opisuje je divan. Osim što je bilo vrlo zanimljivo čitati sve detalje njegovog života uključujući i igru u reprezentaciji, iz knjige se daju izvući vrlo važne životne pouke. Čista petica, bravo za Luku ❤

This was an excellent Autobiography. Luka Modric is one of best players of his generation and deserved all the awards and titles that came his way that he earned through his talent, sheer hard work and determination.
Winning numerous trophies at Real Madrid and playing a massive part in getting Croatia to a world cup final and of course culminating in winning the Balon d'or, Luka describes his incredible journey to the top.
A great book well worth a read for any football fan.

A escrita não é tão bem feita assim, foi mais um relato msm da vida dele. O começo da infância e da guerra são mt interessantes, mas depois que ele entra no Real Madrid, tudo vira mais um texto descritivo dos resultados das partidas que ele participou

I loved this book so much. I don't know what I expected when I started it, but it for sure went beyond my expectations. It was very nice to read about things I had seen on TV from the perspective of Luka. The style of writing is perfect too, it feels personal and pulls you right in. I also appreciated how even when two big events overlapped in time, he talks about them in different sections, which makes it very easy to follow.
Anyway, if you're a fan of Luka Modrić, of Real Madrid, of the Croatian National Team, or simply a fan of football, I highly recommend this book. I would even recommend it to non-football fans to be honest, but the parts describing football matches won't be as fun to read. Overall, I will remember this as a story of never giving up to achieve your dreams, of working hard, of surrounding yourself with good people, and not letting the world dictate your limits. A wonderful read!
Anyway, if you're a fan of Luka Modrić, of Real Madrid, of the Croatian National Team, or simply a fan of football, I highly recommend this book. The narrative of the book is mostly calm, mirroring the life and composed personality of Modric. The highlight of the book is the part that recounts his childhood and the journey leading up to his joining Real Madrid. There, one can feel the warmth of family, friends, and community, as well as the passion for football in Croatia. I also found many of Modric's childhood experiences to resonate with my own.
The most dramatic part is the transfer process from Tottenham to Real Madrid, a rare event that caused Modric to lose control. The latter half of the book primarily focuses on Modric's time at Real, summarizing events that have been widely covered by the media.
Fun fact: The first time I watched international football on TV was the 1998 World Cup, and my first betting experience was the Croatia vs. Germany match. I rooted for Croatia because I had a checkered hat similar to the team's uniform. My dad bet on Germany and gave me a one-and-a-half goal handicap. 😄

En estas memorias inéditas, Luka revela detalles de su niñez, una etapa marcada por la Guerra de Yugoslavia, y describe sus inicios como jugador de fútbol que lo llevaron, primero, al Dinamo de Zagreb, para luego dar el salto al Tottenham. Croatia's Luka Modric is one of the most successful, and unassuming, players of his generation. He is a World Cup finalist, a Ballon d'or winner, as the best player in the world, and he has won every available title with Real Madrid, where he transferred after making a name for himself with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League. I'm not a fan of Madrid, or connected to Croatia, but I read this book hoping to understand the context of the Balkans War as it impacted his childhood and development. The book barely touched on this aspect, besides the devastating events that led to his grandfather's death, but it was otherwise an informative read for serious football fans, particularly those segments dealing with Croatia's journey at the Russian World Cup.

Whether you are a soccer fan or not, this is a heartwarming autobiography of one of soccer's all-time legends.
It is wonderful to have insight into what makes Luka Modric one of the most admired players of his time. Yes, he is an amazing midfield player but more importantly his integrity, strength and determination are what make him admirable and noteworthy.
Regrettably, the English translation makes the read a bit onerous and disjointed at times -- I wish I could speak/read Croatian!
