I have to start this review by saying that the description for this book is misleading. There is nothing “game-changing” or “revolutionary” about this book.
Second, I have to say that this book is probably for a completely different audience. I am a late 30’s woman, well established in life, who already knew 99% of what was mentioned in this book. Someone fresh out of high school or college could possibly benefit from this book, but I don’t think it’s marketed in the right way to reach them. The subtitle says “The Top 325 Ways to Save, Earn and Thrive to Retire Before 65” and then talks about saving money by shopping at Costco and thrift stores, and cleaning your own house instead of hiring a cleaning service. Great tips, but…not what the title of the book implies.
Honestly, this book read like a blog. I understand that the author wanted to offer “bite sized” nuggets of information, but it lacked any true substance. I suppose it works well as an introduction to the topic of using your money wisely, but I didn’t really glean any new information. And anything new I did learn, I could’ve just Googled and probably gotten the answer from the first result that popped up.
So do I recommend this book? Maybe…for someone just starting out in life and literally has no clue about money management. If you’re older and established in life, and you’re already doing what you can to save for retirement and are looking for more information on the topic, keep looking.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
I recently picked up a copy of Financial Fives: The Top 325 Ways to Save, Earn, and Thrive to Retire by Joe Lim, and I'm really glad I did. This book has been an invaluable asset in helping me understand the financial implications of retirement planning and how I can make smart decisions to ensure a comfortable future for my family. I love the book's comprehensive approach to retirement planning, with topics ranging from budgeting to investing to tax planning. All of the advice is easy to understand and easy to follow. I have already found a few great ways to save and earn more money that I wouldn't have discovered without this book. I highly recommend Financial Fives to anyone who wants to make sure they are doing everything they can to plan for their retirement.
I'm always looking for simple ways to save money, and this book was the perfect way to start my journey. It has simple lists for people of all ages to read, and the best thing is that if you're not interested in a particular list, you can just skip to the next one - or the next. For example, if you don't want to read about buying a car (or you already have a car), you can just go to the next list about travelling or getting a raise. Some of the lists were general (for everyone to just read and try to relate to) whereas others were specific enough for people to follow (how to ask for a raise, etc).
This book is easy to read and full of great ideas for young people. I think it has all consecrated advice you may need for many areas of your life. We normally learn and get experienced with years and age, so why not to date time by following these simple strategies. The book is what it claims to be: you can finish reading each chapter while waiting for your meal, coffee or having lunch. The only thing is the book is very USA focused however much of advice can be still applied in other countries.
I liked the ease and simplicity of the layout of this book. I would recommend it to anyone who can read or work essentially. I rated 5 stars because it is beneficial without being complicated. Happy reading!
This book was just okay to me, it might be more useful for people based in the States, but most of it just seemed like a re-hash of ideas from other books, I didn't find anything new.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The book overall is really interesting and full of great information. I wouldn't say that the majority of the information is new or revolutionary, but having it consolidated into one book is very beneficial.
