A Gilded Age estate in Rhode Island, Blackhurst is a well-guarded fortress beneath its elegant facade. Cyril Blink rules his dominion with an iron fist but has his hands full with the willful academic haunting his antiquities vault. Professor Farris Elliot might be overqualified to manage the estate’s collection of priceless art and artifacts but he’s also a thorn in Cyril’s side. Farris has his own secrets and Cyril learns that the cranky professor isn’t bitter beneath his tweed suits. He’s actually rather sweet and tempting and Cyril finds himself breaking his own rules.
A string of curious events and an attack brings a mystery to Blackhurst and Cyril vows to find those responsible and have his revenge. They All Fall Down can be read as a standalone but it features characters from previous Lake Cliff books and fits into a larger storyline that concludes in the next installment in the series.
Author of the popular Nannies of New York and Boys of Lake Cliff book series, K Sterling has self-published dozens of books. K. is known for fast-paced romantic thrillers and touching gay romcoms. There might be goosebumps and some gore but there’s always true love and lots of laughter.
Anyone who's read Sterling's Boys of Lake Cliff series will be well versed in the character that is Cyril Blink. You'll be aware of his capricious nature, his dark soul, his impersonal manner and you'd be hard pressed to feel that he's all that likeable to be honest. A difficult man, persnickety, paranoid about his safety, set in his ways, and obsessed with his wealth and his connections and his art work...
Or so you may think.
Finally we're invited through the doors of Blackhurst Manor and to visit those who live within its walls, and we finally get to scratch the veneer that is Mr Blink and he who both buffs and dirties it at the same time, his art expert and restorer extraordinaire, Farris.
This book is fuuuuuuunnnnn! In ways you don't expect but also in that brilliant Sterling way. You'll be cheering for both characters at different times of their story and of you're anything like me (who studied art history at university and is still obsessed with art) you'll be salivating at everything Farris gets to handle (and that actually includes Cyril).
You don't need to have read the Lake Cliff series to enjoy this story (though as I've stated plenty of times before, you're really missing out if you haven't).
...just when I think this saga can't hold me hostage anymore, here comes Ms. Sterling weaving more of her word wizardry.... I actually put down another book I was reading to read They All Fall Down because of my Lake Cliff addiction...and now there's more coming soon----OMG!!!...gonna change my job to part time status, so work doesn't interfere with my relationship with Lavender, Aiden, Lane, Sage and now Blink and Farris...oh, don't forget the guys from Carlton House...yep I'm hooked, please don't stop this story line...there's no rehab available for Lake Cliff withdrawal...
...just when you think this ongoing saga can't get any better
Intelligence, confidence, Maturity, and snark is SEXY
K. Sterling proves to us once again that no matter how broken you are ..... There is someone out there to love you enough to put the pieces back together! Control obsessed Blink is brought down by a sexy ex professor in the best way. You will love to hate or hate to love Blink as his and Elliott's love story unfolds in They all Fall Down: A Lake Cliff Adjacent Romance.
It's time to crack the mystery safe that is known as Mr. Blink! And for those of you following along in the story, the prickly curator of Blink's vault is the one to do it.
Two things... we finally find out what Marston has been hiding from the rest of the boys; amd we are majorly teased about what is going to happen next. But those are at the end and just added that twist to remind you where Sterling's characters get their assholery (it's a word!) from.
But we get Cyril (Blink) and Ferris and I love people who are older and established finding love. And it doesnt happen fast; Ferris has been working for Blink for years, so I say this is a really slow burn with a devastatingly explosive ending. Instead of destruction, these shake loose missing pieces of the puzzle about the Lake Cliff family.
Reasons (besides Cyril & Ferris) you need to read this book: clowns, silver fox, amazing ties, extravagant gifts, giant foot, sex professor, and scotch.
When I read Grim’s book, I didn’t like Blink. I thought he was authoritarian and just plain not worth it. He was the typical villain. I didn’t think he’d be able to get redeemed.
When I learned that the author had created Blink’s book, I was skeptical. How would this uptight man with control issues ever find a way to love someone?
Farris Elliot, Blink’s in-house art historian, is a man who doesn’t care that Blink is the epitome of an evil overlord and therefore should be shown deference. Farris is fun and cranky. He gets under Blink’s skin and burrows until Blink blinks. This book was a lot of fun as Blink tries to navigate a no strings relationship that develops strings. His courting and apologies are over the top and I love them.
I love Sterling’s writing and her wicked mind. She comes up with the best characters and I love seeing them come to life.
It feels like I have been waiting for so long! When we were first introduced to Mr. Blink, I was intrigued right off the bat. Dark, mysterious, and really seemed very closed off. So not the case! Then we have Farris! Sarcastic, can't stand Blink, and of course broken. These 2 are something else. They are broken, hot for each other, but don't know what to do with each other. They are perfect for each other! I couldn't figure out if I wanted to laugh or completely melt at the romance! This story surpassed my expectations! Absolutely wonderful! I think Blink became my favorite!💙💚🔥
We've met Cyril before. And to be honest, I didn't really see him being...able to have a "normal" relationship (as normal as it gets for Lake Cliff, that is). But he is perfect with Farris. I was impressed because I was skeptical about HOW Ms. Sterling was going to make Blink...likeable? That's not the right word, but you get the point. Cyril goes between being ridiculously sweet and a tremendous a**hole. Not sure why that combo works for me, but it does. And Farris puts up with...a lot. The foot thing? What the hell... This is not a stand alone. You need to read the prior Lake Cliff Adjacent books AT LEAST to get what's going on with the bigger story line here. I think you should read all the Lake Cliff/Carlton House/etc. books personally, but that's just me. You won't be disappointed. The ending...Jesus. I REALLY need the next book to come out. What exactly did Reginald do...and what did Toly do...and WHO THE HELL IS BEHIND THIS! Read the book.
More than a sum of its parts, and the parts a nice to look at!
Well this was unexpected in all the best ways. K is prolific at the moment and I’m loving the momentum and the ride we are being taken on! But this, this was more than the sum of its parts.
I really did not like Cyril Blink, he upset the status quote and my understanding of Lake Cliffe, it worried me that there was was someone that Lavender and Reginald answered too. I mean, WHO could be more frightening than them? It seems Cyril is in a refined ‘I wear velvet ties when I’m feeling frivolous’ kinda way, and I love him.
This book feels less urgent than the last couple creating space to enjoy Cyril and Farris finding each other - Farris is a worthy adversary and made me spit out my wine. Read and enjoy.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall.....Ain’t that the truth
In They All Fall Down I saw a totally unexpected side of Cyril and I’m not sure how I feel about that lol. When he first stepped in all I want to do was give him the finger and the next few times I wanted to punch him in the throat. Now I can’t stop thinking about him as I shake my fist in the air at K. Sterling. Ugh why must she torture us so?! Cyril reminds me of an indulgent but overprotective father who will stop at nothing to protect what’s his and I have a feeling someone is going to burn. I need the next book like yesterday!
Cyril and Farris are an unlikely combination - a fabulously wealthy, domineering control freak lawyer vs a disgraced academic with a stubborn streak a mile long. However, their mutual love of exquisite antiquities brings them together and before long their professional relationship develops into something very hot and messy! That would be all well and good if there was not a sniper on the loose to add to the mystery of the unsolved attacks on Mr Blink's associates. It's all heating up nicely for the ultimate showdown. Can't wait for the cavalry to arrive from Lake Cliff
I really love the Lake Cliff adjacent books! This time we finally got to read Mr. Blink's story, and it didn't disappoint. I am very much looking forward to the next one! Can't wait for what happens next with all the boys of Lake Cliff together again.
We've seen glimpses of Cyril in some of the other books and in the eyes of others and what we've been shown is a ruthless, cold control freak who isn't liked by anyone. With a property is as unreachable as his heart, or at least it was until everything changes.
Then we have Elilot Farris, former college professor and in charge of Cyril vault with the most valuable things imaginable. I had my fingers crossed for him and Cyril as soon as he snapped at Mr Blink in one of the other books because that's exactly what Cyril needs, someone who doesn't roll over for him and who can hold his own. And he totally got that with Elliot! I laughed out loud when Farris described their first get together as fine. Cyril really couldn't believe his ears. And all through the book I had this TikTok song in my head that is so fitting for Cyril: "Oh, no I think I'm catching feelings"
Cyril might not be my favourite carachter, but thoroughly enjoyed him (and so did Elliot). And let's face it, with so many amazing men in this series, it hard to compete and everyone has their own favourites. What I did love though was the way that Cyril really sees the gang at Lake Cliff and his observation of what they have in common. He really has a bit of Daddy in him:) Can't wait to see them all together and I hope for lots of interaction between them.
Ms Sterling has done a brilliant job with this book. She has given us a romance that you are cheering on from the beginning, witty banter, and a guy who doesn’t give in easily to the alpha male that is Cyril Blink. Whoda thought it? Also, there's a suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and even though you want to know how it will play out like now, you're having to wait til the next book, to see it resolved! Cruel and unusual punishment, Ms Sterling.
I loved how Farris took down Cyril, oh how the mighty doth fall! Who knew that this book would be funny, flirty and steamy, and that the 'big bad boss' would be so vulnerable, and such a sweetie in love? I loved Cyril and Farris together, their chemistry was off the charts, they certainly burned up the sheets.
I absolutely adore these Lake Cliff books and their adjacent stories, the guys have me in fits with their antics. They're quick witted and have each others backs no matter what. They are each others ride or die. I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next, can't wait for the grand finale.
Previous times I've come across Blink, I thought meh. In Grim's story, I positively grew to hate him with a major intense burning desire to set him on fire and watch him go down in flames. But omg!!! The explosive action when you add Professor Delectable to the equation melts Blink's austere façade and you see the very human side of Blink. UNFORGETTABLE!!!! Omgosh Blink is human and his apologies are over the top. The clowns got me hahaha. Drew me from the start and was a pleasure to read.
It is getting so good, we are almost to the end of the mystery that is messing the family, we finally get a glimpse of what Mrstson has been hiding and what is going to happen the love story between Blink and Farris is so cute, Blink is clueless but so funny while trying to figure it out I can't wait to see what happens next, this is a series of book that you love to hate, I couldn't put it down it was so good Great author and an amazing writer, highly recommend all her books
This book provides a great insight into the mind of Mr. Blink!!! And then we had the awesome Farris! He was amazing and I loved seeing their relationship blossom! I am so ready for all the boys to figure out the mystery so looking forward to whatever’s next! Highly recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oh Mr. Blink: It took the love of Farris To open ur heart And turned something u cherish Into a true piece of art Haha :) <3
I've read everything Miss Sterling has I never know what to say in a review cause I hate it when they do it for me. This woman can right about a rock and you'll be in love and won't turn it down. Ill give you this opposites do exist. Its fun smoking hot faced paced. Its a true K ( my naughty girl) Sterling
Cyrill and Elliot's story is another great Lake Cliff Adjacent romance. I did feel the it was a little rushed and would have liked more lead-up into the romance, but I still highly recommend it.
Blink is cold and controlling that hides behind his money but can he be human?? He can As long as he has his professor in his arms. Professor Elliot is no pushover and gives Blink a run for his money. I'm not giving anything so let's skip to the next book for the holidays and to our conclusion to the mystery in the past two novels. Up next is "All Is Bright", you do need to read this!!
K. Sterling’s series Boys of Lake Cliff pulled me into this world where I fell in love with two characters that changed my reading life. If you haven’t read the first book please do. This book is the story of Cyril and Farris also the continuation of the mystery of who is targeting all of them!
I have always been curious about Mr.Blink when he was introduced in last stories and now I know. And I want more!!! It was interesting to get into the real world of Blackhurst and can't wait into the next installment. These stories are always a must read for me. And to have all the boys back together to figure out this mystery, yeah!!!
I nearly missed this story for my collection of excellent K Sterling Lake Cliff extras. Its a good story as its part one of two and fills in some holes I had.
