Escape from Codependent Christianity: From Religious Control to Spiritual Freedom
Many Christians are painfully codependent, and never get free. A codependent lifestyle is a miserable, fearful life. From never feeling secure, to the need to always be in control, the extremes of codependency fuel the chaos and pain in our lives. In Escape from Codependent Christianity, Dr. James B. Richards examines this common phenomenon in light of the truth of Scripture. Codependency is not complicated. It involves depending upon others for what we have no right to expect from them. Codependents often fall into the trap of living on other people’s approval for their own sense of self-worth. They may depend on others for decisions or happiness. No matter what the needs are, the key to codependency involves trying to get from others what people cannot truly give.

The author offers a good description of codependency and concludes by offering a new addiction.

I hate that the word "codependency" is in the title. That word is so misunderstood, and misused. BUT, the whole concept as defined by Richards gives understanding in a way that can seriously set people FREE. And I'm talking about ALL people. To me, his writing is simplistic, with lots of relatable stories. He, somehow, concisely describes the root of all our problems (in 179 pages), and shares "the cure." So, know that God is truly good, and seek affirmation, love, self-worth, etc., ONLY from Him. Live in peace. Sounds good to me.

I really felt like this man was hitting all the most important points about developing a healthy relationship with God. It was well written and very uplifting.
