Harried, overworked architect Kate Benedict has no sooner stepped off the ferry to a tiny, remote island in Seychelles, primed to de-stress and celebrate at a destination wedding, than she spots imminent danger – auras spinning above the heads of two people on the dock. One’s a stranger, but the other’s the groom!
Kate has a gift – or possibly a curse. Unfortunately for her, she can predict death. When she sees the spinning circle of air above someone’s head, her heart sinks. She calls it an aura, and unless she can locate the source of danger and intervene, the person is destined to die within a matter of days.
But since the potential victim must be convinced of the danger, usually there’s no way to intervene with a stranger. When the second man is found drowned, Kate knows she has to tell her boyfriend Josh that the groom, Josh’s close friend from college, has an aura.
It’s hard to convince Josh’s friends that a murderer is lurking among the gracious islanders, the chill tourists, and serene natural beauty – but with a suspicious fire and a third aura sighting, the evidence is mounting. Until they can find the murderer, Kate and Josh have to keep the groom safe and fend off the worst wedding crasher ever – Death!
The writing is ok, occasionally good, but the story line and plot are quite awful. It is not interesting to have confused amateurs repeatedly stumble around crime and yet be incapable of doing anything. An insecure and vague female protagonist is not appealing.
Carrie Bedford – Kate Benedict Series Bk 6 – The Trouble at Turtle Beach - Reviewed 11/10/20 – Read 11/6/20
What can you do when your partner’s best friend is in danger? EVERYTHING you can!!!
When Kate Benedict and her boyfriend, Josh, fly to a remote island in Seychelles to attend Josh’s college friend’s wedding, Kate spies an aura circling above Danny’s head. As she looks around the airport, Kate also spies another man that is a stranger that has an aura also.
After her mother’s death some years back, Kate realized that she had a gift of predicting death. Not sure that it is a gift or not, she has helped others to dodge the destiny of death. Of course, it is not easy to help because most times she cannot tell them that she knows they are in danger. Sometimes she sees what she calls the “aura” circling above strangers and she is not able to help everyone. She must walk away, but it is certainly hard.
After agonizing over telling Josh, she finally finds the right moment to let him know. At this point she has no clue as to what it could be! Jointly they will have to search out what the danger is to be able to save him. Hampering them is the fact that they do not know much about the island and the events taking place around it. Plus, they both know that it is going to be hard to convince others that danger is lurking around the corner, and neither one of them wants it to be a guest at the wedding!
And the story begins…
What did I like? I have read one of the other books in this series, and I really enjoyed it. I have added it to my personal TBR list but have not been able to read all of them yet. Carrie has written this series to be a fun but seriously psychic mystery suspense, and boy is it! The tension is carried all the way through and most certainly gets your attention. I love the characters that she has developed. Kate is an interesting and lovable one that you can easily adopt as a new friend, along with her boyfriend, Josh. I especially liked the tie into the environment. We all need to be aware that our actions can most definitely affect our surroundings. From the trash to the destruction of the land, the home to so many, and some that we cannot even see.
What will you like? A storyline that will reach out and grab you right from the beginning, till the final page turns. The characters are unique, adorable, funny, and some are just downright awful! This is beautifully written and edited with lots of descriptions, and they will take you right to the island so you can feel the breeze on your face and hear the surf on the beach. Be careful to keep yourself out of the danger zone, and let Kate do all the hard work. Here is another great book to add to your library. Available now!
This is the first book by this author I have read but I really enjoyed it. The whole idea of being able to see aura's (when a person was close to death) was interesting and really played well in a mystery book. The mystery it's self was good and even through I had worked out one of the bad guys, believe me it wasn't over. The story contained a number of twists which kept the story entertaining and kept me up reading well past my bed time. The characters were like able and I liked how they worked together to get to the bottom of the many problems. I think this is definitely a series I might have to start at the beginning of. Kate and Josh have plans only to relax on the beach, soak up the suns rays and enjoy Josh's best friends wedding. But all those plans goes out the window when on arrival Kate sees two auras, this tells Kate that the two men the auras are hovering over are going to die soon. She is two late to save the first man as he is found floating in the sea of a supposed drowning accident but can she save the second man? Josh's best friend and the groom, Danny? It seems the tiny island isn't to tiny, I cooperation wants to develop the island by building a luxury resort. Danny as a lawyer is looking over the contracts before the deal is signed, but could that he reason enough to kill him?And which side wants him dead? the for or the against opponents? With time running out for there friend, Kate and Josh have to work out if a fire at the only factory is connected, an attack on a tourist and the death of a farmer all lead back to why someone would want to kill Danny. I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Kate and Josh are on the small island Mele, of the Seychelles islands. They are there for a well deserved week long break and the destination wedding of Josh's best friend Danny.
Instead, Kate sees her auras again. One above Danny. She keeps quiet this time but is determined to protect the man.
Troubled is brewing on this small island. A developer is determined to build a monstrosity resort hotel. The mayor of this island is opposed. But, will decide what the islanders decide. Things get dicey when a kind islander turns up dead. Yes, he had an aura. Things begin to happen that may or may not have too with this new hotel. Is the search developer involved? Who else? A tourist with ulterior motives? Or an Islanders wanting the island modernized? Lots of suspects, lots of willing investigative helpers propel this plot fast and furious. Kudos to the wonderful descriptions of the island and environmental struggles as well as some cultural tidbits. I wanted more of the cuisine and more history.
It was not an easy book to follow for me. However, I was easily distracted by Christmas preparations, so probably had problems with concentration anyway. The plot was very original to me. I've read many novels, but it's refreshing to find one that diverts away from the usual formula. The setting seems exotic, even with the problems that exist on the island. The problems the residents face are very real. But some of the "solutions" are not beneficial to anyone but the perpetrators. When a villager is found dead, the mystery of what happened is a puzzle the entire community struggles to solve. Did the man drown, or was he murdered?
The heroine, has a strange phenomenon that occurs, noticed only by her. Anyone who is close to dying has an "aura", a cloud of air that spins over the dying person's head. As it becomes closer to their time of death, the aura spins faster and faster. When one of her husband's best friends appears with an aura over his head, she and her husband try to keep him safe.
This book was a mystery about a new resort wanting to get permission on Turtle Bay . It has a paranormal twist, as Kate has the ability to see other peoples deaths. She sees a spinning cloud that goes faster, and faster, till death comes, or is reverted in some way. She, and her boyfriend Josh are there to see his best friend married. His soon to be married friend has a swirling cloud . They must find out why he would be in danger. They realize the new resort would put the great turtle nests into danger, as well as the water system. Some people can only see the profits, and not the danger to the island. It is an interesting murder mystery, with a paranormal twist. I gave it 4 stars.
Kate Benedict's special gift, power, or affliction gets her in more trouble when she sees the aura and has to save her friend from imminent death which seems to be haunting the island where they have gone for his wedding. Not much of the action actually happens on Turtle Beach but there's plenty of subterfuge and criminal goings on to keep you occupied while trying to figure out who is killing the tourists and locals to make sure a business deal goes through. It's touch and go at the end when the groom is missing and it could already be too late but Kate and Josh save the day. That's enough, just read it.
Great Tropical Adventure Mystery This is a clean mystery that is heavy on the adventure and light on the paranormal. The mystery is quite good with plenty of twists and aspects the reader will never see coming. While the paranormal aspect is in play and gives our sleuths some inside knowledge, there are no witches or shifters, vampires, or zombies. This is the first book in the series that I have read. It stands alone well, but I may go back to read the earlier episodes. I received this ARC book for free from BooksBNimble Publishing and this is my honest opinion.
Loved this book – the first I've read in the series. The story flows smoothly and the author uses good vocabulary – something which is sometimes missing in cozy mysteries. The editing is good, the setting exotic (the Seychelles) but the best, of course, is the plot and the characters. There is enough suspense to keep you reading but plenty of character development and local description as well. I definitely want to read the others in this series! I received an ARC of this book and freely leave this honest review.
Kate is taking a vacation with Josh while awaiting Josh's friends wedding. The fun times are made not so fun when Kate sees an aura, indicating an imminent death, over the head of not only Josh's friend's head, but also over another person. That other person dies early in the story, and Kate and Josh work to unravel the mystery, thus hoping to save the friend. In this book, Kate gets a little help of the paranormal kind to not only solve the mystery and save the friend, but also to help save the island from a shady development scheme.
Loved this story. When I read this story, I had not read books 1-5, which you don’t need to follow this story. You can get into this story from page 1, until the end and not feel that you missed anything from books 1-5. I loved this story so much; I went back to read the first 5 books. I have completed reading books 1 and 2 and loved then. I will read books 3-5 soon and looking forward to it.
This is the first book in the Kate Benedict series that I have read, and I feel like some of the inside information from the earlier books would have been welcome to fully enjoy the storyline. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this mystery novel. It has interesting characters, a beautiful location, an ingenious plot, and it’s very well written and edited. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
School friend of Josh’s is getting married, and he was standing up with Danny at the wedding. A week at the beautiful sea, a room next to the beach sounds perfect. Till Kate see’s aura’s on Danny and a local man. An interesting plot, after she tells Josh of what she is seeing. Together they will work to remove the danger that Danny unknowingly maybe is in. Will there be a wedding for Danny and Zola. Good plot.
𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝑻𝒖𝒓𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑩𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉, Kate Benedict series, Book #6 by Carrie Bedford.
This is a very well written series, and this novel was no exception. The plotting and pacing was excellent, the proofing and editing was perfection, the characters are relatable and well-fleshed out, there were several twists and turns and the who-done-it was not found until near the very end, and there was no cliffhanger ending. I enjoyed the book very much and would recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries.
another winner! Kate and Josh come to the Islands for a Danny’s wedding.
Danny has an Aura! As Kate and Josh greet their friend who’s wedding they had come to participate Kate sees the hated Aura. Their friend is going to die if they don’t do something to save him. And it is moving fast so it has to be soon. This involves the whole island and murder is dished up quickly. So Kate and Josh go on high alert. They only have two weeks before Dannys bride comes.
I had a bit trouble to get into the book. The beginning is slow passing and many times mentioned 'I have to save Danny'. If you think you know who did it, you are mistaken. There are many people who are involved in the crimes. The second half of the book, the story speeded up and I didn't put it down till I finished it. Surprising end of the book. Well done.
Kate arrives with Joss and Danny to turtle beach for Danny’s wedding. Little did they know but Danny the friend and groom had an aura over his head and was spinning. Kate was worried that Danny would die . Others had spinning auras too. Between a possible new hotel , a spirit, people with bad ideas this a great read
I love the island in this book. I especially like the the part about the Goddess of water. It was mysterious and fun and there was a little more time for josh and kate. With the aura around joshs best friend, kate had to really rush things into the investigation. Adventure is the name of the game.
Another wonderful Kate Benedict story, this time set on a gorgeous island i wouldn't mind visiting. As always, I had my suspicions as to who the villains are and, as usual, I really had no idea of the truth. A great read - I recommend the series for hours of a respite from lives stresses.
An interesting mystery and suspense in the series. Even though a series, the author writes stand alone stories without the dreaded cliffhanger. Without the general trend for cussing and pages of detailed sex the book is suitable for more readers
I read this book because I read all previous books in the series. It did not disappoint. It has the same fast pace as the previous books and had me thinking til the end. I can’t wait to read more books in the series
What began a bit slow but intriguing plot slowed by increased complexity until the complicated and rushed ending. This might be a good read to fill up a long lockdown!
A delightful read with many surprises throughout. The characters are well crafted and pull the reader into the drama/mystery immediately. I liked the fact that Bedford never reveals who the guilty party is and keeps you guessing. An intriguing novel. Highly recommend.
Unfortunately, once you have read one book in this series, they are all pretty much the same. The series as a whole is a decent read with no bad language or detailed sex scenes.
Kate can see auras spinning over people's heads when they are close to death and the faster the aura moves, the closer it gets so Kate has to try and identify areas of danger and try and prevent anything happening. Great read
This was a light easy read and I believe she is getting better at hiding the culprit. The location sounded beautiful. I enjoy the way Carrie Bedford describes locations. This is the first one of her stories where I was surprised at the end.
Josh and Danny have been best friends so when it was time for Danny to get married Josh and Kate was glad to go, but when they meet Danny has an aura and of course the mystery will take you all over.
As with the previous five books this was just as intriguing and interesting. Couldn't put it down and highly recommend that you read it as well. Looking forward to the next in the series.
