Yuriko Hime had her humble beginnings in an indie publishing website. After getting 3 million plus reads on her book Starstruck, and getting a demand from her readers, she decided to have it published. She goes back and forth in Sacramento California and Asia and calls both places her home. When not writing books, Hime dwells on life's biggest why's, such as why Nutella is not called candy, and why the fine print under labels was placed there if she can't read it anyway.

First of all who doesn't love a lesbian love story? Cause i do and this was much more than that.
Holy Guacamole i loved everything about this book, from the idea behind the story to the characters and their development which was very evident. it was just amazing. Everything in this book revolves around love, whatever happened was because of love. it sort of changed my perspective on love and in a positive way for that matter. Every character was unique in their own way and of course i love Talia and Cybelle the most but Van was in her own category of love, she was everything a character could be from her sense of humor to her psychopathic tendencies ( who doesn't love that) she was definitely not your typical bad ass rebel, and that's how she ended u being my favorite character.
Hime you have impressed me and i will definitely think about Kidnapping the Princess for a long while, and i'm not complaining about that.

I've finished reading it in less than 24 hours bc I totally can't put it down, and if I'm being honest I hate Talia throughout the chapters 😃 because I really want Cybele to end up with Brooke but anyways I love all the characters and I also appreciate that the main characters is all female!!! And lesbian appreciation too <3 💪💅🔥 I love, love this book and I will give it a solid 5/5⭐ Cybele is a badass, by the way. 🛐🤌😩

I wanted to read this because it’s a lesbian love story, and I was tired of cishet romances. I was disappointed that the Love scenes were not better described, but I didn’t take a star off for that. However, it was an utterly ridiculous plot complete with unkillable characters, numerous plot holes, and unclear motivations. I remember thinking at one point that it should’ve ended about five chapters earlier than it had.

It did intentionally make me laugh out loud a few times, though. And there were some turns that I have not seen coming.

CWs:
- multiple kidnappings
- multiple death scenes
- graphic violence
- fire, dying in a fire
- suicide
- dubious consent
- falling in love with your captor (The term Stockholm syndrome is sexist, btw)

I'd like to give this 2.5 stars, honestly, between 'it was okay' and 'I liked it'.

I first encountered this story on a story reading app (the name of which escapes me) many years ago. I was later found out it was also available on wattpad, which was like 'oh, cool, now I can just read it without having to go through the app (which put a lot of paywalls up you had to either throw money at it, or watch a *ton* of ads to get by)'. I couldn't get through it on wattpad. The writing was not cleaned up (understandable) and the character's inner monologues were... insufferable. So I put it aside, disappointed - because the concept and the initial presentation were very good.

Years later, I found out it was now available to buy a physical copy. Which I did, hoping that book version would be better. And it was. The book did have a very annoyingly wide set of margins, but eh.

I kind of regret it, and wish I'd gone for the ebook instead, despite my general preference for physical media.

The issue is, while it is kinda good, and the concept is good, and the *ideas* are mostly good, the writing and execution, for me, were... not.

Ultimately, there were a lot of hard to believe contrivances, a lot of weird random stuff inserted just to stretch the story out. The back half strained my credulity to the point it snapped, with just one random thing after another. The plot twists with Cybele's aunt were... absolute unneeded, the resolution was far, faaar too rushed, the characters did a lot of really stupid things that didn't feel like a 'well, it makes sense they'd make this poor choice' and -

I really wanted to love it, but it was honestly hard to. Made worse by often very strange and even juvenile word choices (at one point a character refers to sticking a gun up a character's 'farty hole', because apparently 'ass' is verboten), which really pulled me out of the story. It was a pretty slow slog to get through as a result. And I only finished it because I'd bought a physical copy.

I honestly can't recommend this story. Which sucks, because I'd really love to be able to.

Definitely one of the funniest reads of recent times, I've never had a book make me laugh like this before.
The humor is sharp, unexpected, and perfectly timed, making it a genuine delight from start to finish.
Van absolutely stole the show for me. She’s a delightful train wreck — unpredictable, unapologetic, and armed with the kind of biting wit that makes you snort out loud.

One of the few things I liked a little less was the ending. It seemed to come together a bit quickly, especially compared to the careful build-up earlier in the book. I would’ve loved just a bit more time to see everything unfold — I almost wanted to tell the story, “Hey, slow down — I’m not ready to say goodbye yet!” But honestly, even with that, it didn’t take away from how much fun I had along the way.

Honestly, if you’re looking for a book that’ll have you grinning like an idiot, this one’s a pretty safe bet.

I originally read this on Wattpad, but re-reading it now in 2022/2023 gave me the same cuddly (and suspenseful) feelings I had before. Between this and Starstruck, they are tied for my favorite lesbian YA's.

I wanted so badly to love this book, because I thought it was wlw enemies-to-lovers, but it's more like stockholm syndrome. Not an okay depiction of romance.
