Outside the walls of the Tomb, the memories of what there is to fear in the world come back quickly. Instead of prison politics, we now have the real world to contend with.
Ax doesn’t take my worries seriously, too caught up in his freedom to recognize the danger we are in while being on the run. When one of our own is taken captive again, the threads holding us together continue to unravel.
Loving him was never something I intended, but can our love survive outside the Tomb walls?
Axle
It’s easy to forget outside prison walls the world moves on without us. I have my freedom but being on the run is not the life I want to provide for Ana. Pulling her out of that pit so broken and in pain broke my heart, and even away from the Tomb, she is ill and acting strange.
She’s my woman, my Goddess, my Queen, and I would do anything for her. But is that enough? Will she still love me now that she has her freedom, or was our story only ever meant to stay within the walls of The Tomb?
Ella Burns is the offspring of a fairy queen and an undead warlord and was brought up with an appetite for terror and beauty. A Canadian author, she would like nothing more than to abscond to the remote wilderness of British Columbia with her daughter and a Kindle full of dark reads. OMG! What a wild ending to an amazing series! I’m in so much love! And that ending! Killing me smalls!!!!! PLEASE tell me there’s more!!! The first book I was a little bummed out it seamed so short but oh boy! Books 2 and 3 has made up for it BIG TIME! The concept of this story is so intriguing and Ella Burns nailed it! Her writing was spot on! Ana was a complete badass! She was from the start but she never wavered and I loved that Ax let her be what she was. I’m really hoping and praying there’s another book after this! I need more!!!
I'm gutted to read the final book of the series, but Ella James did a perfect job of it. Ana and Axle are from The Tomb and wanting to make a life for themselves. Axle gets to wrapped up in his freedom to realise there is still danger in the world. The couple, despite bickering at time grow their relationship and i loved their dynamic. If you like dark dystopian romance please give this series a try Its dark, angsty and gritty.
Still a great dystopian story, and in Book 3 they have escaped the Tomb. The characters embark on their new life adventures in a world still under strife. We see Axle and Ana's relationship grow, and Ax is once again de facto in charge. The group remain in a new town since Ax's best friend gets caught up in misadventure trying to protect his lady love, Sammi, which lands Ethan in jail. The characters discover the town, meet new people while they attempt to free Ethan.
I found this story entertaining, an easy read, lovable characters and adventures; the pace was excellent, and there was never a dull moment. It simply misses some of the freshness and ingenuity of the first book. I still love to the balance of love and strength in Axle and Ana's relationship, and I enjoyed delving into the change in dynamics among all the characters. Overall, a great read. I look forward to future books to explore this new world.
As soon as I finished reading Ensnared, I knew that Escaped was an absolute must read for me! Once again on the cover we have the tattooed back of Axle, one of the main characters in the book. I love how all the covers run with the similar theme and bet they look amazing on a bookstore shelf together.
This book basically picks right up where Ensnared left off. I found it really easy to slip right back into this harsh world that these great characters are trying to survive in. I still had unanswered questions from the last book, especially the smaller details about one of the younger characters, Ciaran who seems to have something he thinks is important to tell Ax & Ana. Something happens in the book that has me thinking it’s something really important too!
Some of the inmates were killed in the escape and other immediately decided to go off and take their chances alone. However, there’s about 23 that remain with Axle and Ana. They manage to catch some food and have water from a nearby stream to both drink and wash in. It does become apparent that they will need to go into the town Sammi reveals is nearby to get new clothes and to attempt to build new lives. In this book it seems that everyone has reverted to Ax being their leader, not that Ana is really bothered as long as the two of them are together. It soon becomes apparent it is going to be those that hadn’t been in The Tomb so long that would need to lead the way. So Sammi reveals what she knows about the nearby Town where her pimp lives, Ana tries to explain how difficult things are on the outside. Axle, Ethan and some of the others inmates think life will be easy now they are free from The Tomb. No matter how many times Sammi or Ana attempt to warn them and encourage them to be more cautious, the men think they invincible. Eventually it is decided it is much safer for the 23 to split into smaller groups and approach the nearby town, rather than all descend at once, making it obvious they are the inmates from The Tomb.
Ethan of course goes with Sammi, and a few others, whilst Axle and Ana have the dead body they need to bury on the way as well as Brutus who still acts like a personal bodyguard to Ana and Theo the older man that took Ana under his wing when she first entered The Tomb. Unfortunately, Ana & Axle’s group have to hurriedly hide when they hear members of The Watch. When their small group re-groups there is another body to bury.
Such a lot happens in this book and of course, I don’t want to give everything away. The main four characters of Axle, Ana, Ethan & Sammi have some good luck, decent judgement and make some good choices, but there are also occasions of the only luck they have being the bad sort, there’s bad decisions and poor choices too.
I think an example of the good luck is when Ana meets up with Ceyda, who despite being a brothel owner turns out to be trustworthy and helpful on more than one occasion. Ethan & Sammi have bad luck when they decide to retrieve her belongings from her room. They choose a time of day that Sammi’s pimp Ali shouldn’t be around…..but he is and a fight breaks out and Ethan ends up in the local jail. When Ax & Ana’s group arrive in the town, which Ana later learns was once called Tekir, his first instinct is to go in and fight to free the man he see’s as a brother. Ana manages to calm him down and say they need to think and make a plan to free Ethan.
The characters Axle, Ana, Ethan and even Sammi are all celebrating freedom and relief from escaping The Tomb and head guard Dick and his men. Then Ethan has they altercation with Ali, landing him in jail awaiting what his fate will be when Tahar, the leader of the local Watch returns. Of course, there is fighting, injuries and loss in this book, but there is also friendship, love, new families and roots being laid for a better future and a big surprise that Axle and Ana just didn’t see in their future.
I adored the growing relationship between Axle and Ana, both strong willed, physically strong with their own ideas of what their future should be like. Where Axle guided Ana somewhat whilst in The Tomb, it is Ana who needs to educate Axle how the world outside works. Similarly, the relationship between Ethan and Sammi is growing more serious. Ethan wants Sammi and he is willing to remove anyone that may stand in their way of happiness. The four main characters really compliment each other well and make a tight formidable group. The two males do learn that they cannot take on the world alone and win. With the help of Ana who befriends a young boy, then becomes friends with Ceyda who is already a good friend and confidante to Sammi they create a small group of like-minded people that are sick of being pushed around by The Watch.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing this book were, Ohhhhh wow! Loved it! Still totally adore Ax, Ethan, Ana & Sammi, as well as instantly liking new characters Omer & Ceyda. Ecstatic that there is more to come from this series! Looking forward to reading it already, definitely going on my must-read list! Who is this man called the messiah? Want can he want with Ax, Ana & Ethan? Revenge? To control them? Or to kill them?
To sum up, once again I totally loved this book, I still totally adore the four main characters as well as falling for the young brave boy, Omer, that Ana befriends along with Ceyda a brothel owner. I still wonder about the full story was that Ciaran was going to tell Axle, Ana, & Ethan. I wonder who Crow is and why he has an interest in how Axle & Ethan are doing? There’s mention of the man in charge of everything who calls himself the “the messiah,” and the hint that he may decide to “visit” them whenever he see’s fit. What could that mean for them? I still thought the terms of endearment that Axle uses when speaks to Ana were a beautiful addition to the book and enjoyed googling them to learn their translations into English.
DAMN!!! That was freaking WILD!!! So very thrilling, intense, entertaining, sexy and downright nail biting. Axle and Ana are faced with such insurmountable odds that their story will keep you gasping for breath and hoping that it all turns out just right in the end.
You will not be able to look away until the last page and then you will be left begging this amazing author for more!!!
I still hate Ana :-( I understand that Ana does not trust Axle in the outside world and worries, but in a dystopian world, he is just at home, like he was at the tomb Great angsty ending Worth reading it
I love this series so much! The books were short but it didn’t feel like anything was missing. I loved the characters and the storyline was well thought out. I hope to see more books from this world!
I love this series. The books are not long but there is so much going on in faculty at you don't feel like you are missing anything. Both the hero and heroine are very strong and fierce. I love Ana, she is a force to be recogned with. I wasn't really a fan of dystopian until I read these books. Great writing, highly recommend!
I enjoyed their story and following them through their adventures. The down size and only 4 stars was the price. I felt it a bit steep for the amount of pages but I had to buy because it was a good read.
Reality hits Ana and Axe hard because escaping is just a start for living in freedom and freedom means having other priorities and different choices to make. That's how life works and Axe needs to learn to adjust to his new responsibilities. He leads inmates in and outside the tomb now and even the ones who separated at first, come back to the roots. New start, new freedom, new enemy's and old ghost's. That's what they have to deal with, even when Ana's situation changes and demands more supervision and love from Axe which he first fucked over. But that's where the author starts letting the characters develop again, change themselves in a good, realistic and slow burn. Ella Burns manages to develop her characters over 3 damn books in a manner I haven't seen often and it's deep how hard you fall for her style doing that magic. Ana and Axe make a damn U-Turn in theire characteristics and ways to think and to behave even. It's not a junk read even if you might think that the slightly post apocalyptic theme might point to it or the romantic aspect. Most book pace character changes and developments in most areas too fast but its a great symbiosis this author creates in her books.
Writingstyle is also good to real, no heroine who goes on your nerves and a hero who is human, despite all the psychological trouble which is not just a written word in her books. It's a style with realistic work through.
This series is highly recommended by me and definitely in my top reads 2020 and bonus, I love the author dearly because she is a gamer and freak like me.
Short: buy the damn book and enjoy it!
****** I was given an arc for an honest review *******
This is the third and final book in the Tomb Trilogy. Facing freedom and on the run, Ana, Axle, Ethan, Sammi, and the gang come to a small village in order to regroup and figure out their next move.Danger follows Ana and Ax where ever they go. There are many surprises throughout this book. We're introduced to new characters as well as delve more in to the characters that we already know and love. I felt like Escaped was an excellent ending to a wonderfully dark and exciting trilogy. I felt many emotions while reading Escaped, and the fast pace actions kept me on my toes. I felt that all of my questions were answered. I do hope that there will be a spin-off series. Thank you Ms. Burns for gifting me this e-ARC. I truly love your characters and world building surrounding Ana and Axle. I look forward to reading more of your work. This was my honest opinion.
I loved the conclusion to Axle and Ana's story in the Tomb Series! This was a fast paced, steamy, original read and I found it thoroughly entertaining. What started out as a story of survival in a dystopian prison world in Books 1&2, ended up being survival in the real world and the ensuing adventures that go with it, in Book #3. If you enjoy reading stories about strong, smart heroines, blood thirsty Alphas, lots of angst and trying to survive in a tough Dystopian world on the run, grab this Series and dive in! 4 Stars!
This is part 3 in the Ana and Ax story. Ana and Ax have a taste of freedom, they have escaped the Tomb but at what cost to themselves and others. Ax doesnt know much on how the outside world operates but Ana does. When they reach a town and find Ethans been locked up and the Watch has been sent for, time becomes even more precious to save him. A well written tale with a great story plot that keeps you hooked on every page! With character old and new this is a true triumph of what love, courage and determination can do. With action, suspense, desire, romance, twists and more will they get the HEA?
Part 3 of Ana and Ax's story. They're finally free, but Ax is at a loss as to how to cope and relies on Ana. New characters Omer and Ceyda are introduced. And then there's the Messiah. Who is he? What's his agenda? So looking forward to the next book in this series. Ella Burns certainly knows how to capture one's attention.
Merged review:
Part 3 of Ax and Ana's story - they're outside the tomb. Will they survive and what does life hold for them now? This series is really well written, page-turning, riveting, engrossing. I'm going to be keeping an eye open for more of Ella's books
this been the 3rd book in the series brings a closure to the story, but in many ways leaves you with more questions. the watch is at the forefront of this work. how the inmates will avoid them and keep safe. sammi and ana use their female traits to get information to help their men. axle and ethan work together with the locals to work out the next steps of their lives. a great book and cant wait to see what follows.
This is part 3 of ax and ana’s story. They are finally free of the tomb but how will their relationship survive their new reality. This book keeps you turning the pages just like the other two and the epilogue is the stuff of dreams! Ax and ana are so well written throughout this whole series. It’s nothing like I’ve read before and is flipping fantastic!
Amazing end to a brilliant series, Ana and Axle and a group of escapees have left the tomb. Is it going to be plain sailing, or isn't the war over yet. "Watch " out something is coming, highly recommend 6***
I absolutely loved reading this series, but now that they have escaped and are back in the real world can they navigate it? Dangers will always be coming for them, but now they have a chance to live.
