'He's one of the best players I've ever played with. As a forward, I'd say he's the best.' Johnny Sexton
Seán O'Brien does not come from a traditional rugby background. He grew up on a farm in Tullow, far from the rugby hotbeds of Limerick and Cork or the fee-paying schools of Dublin. But as he made his way up through the ranks, it soon became clear that he was a very special player and a very special personality.
Now, Seán O'Brien tells the remarkable and unlikely story of his rise to the highest levels of world rugby, and of a decade of success with Leinster, Ireland and the British and Irish Lions.
This book follows in the long line of rugby autobiographies by Irish players in recent years. It offers little insight and simply highlights O’Brien’s lack of self-awareness. On one hand, he slags off soccer. On the other hand, he neglects to mention his behaviour in a Dublin pub at the end of his Leinster career.
A great insight into the rugby life of a one of the games greats, an Irish international and Lion. Its great to hear how much he does for his junior club as well. A good read for any rugby nut I did get lost when he when using the nicknames for the players but perhaps an Irish rugby nut would know them all
