Dianna Laydon is an actress starring in one of TV’s top series, Treasure Hunt, but she has never gotten used to fame. In her heart, she’s still the simple Southern girl who had moved to Los Angeles years ago to make her dream come true. She’s also a control freak, a play-by-the-book kind of girl, and a totally rational person. Her life, though, is turned upside down when a new actress is cast as a recurring character in Treasure Hunt. Vivien Reese has spent her whole life under the spotlights, being the wild daughter of a renowned British director, and a famous actress herself since she was just eighteen years old. With her party-girl reputation and her go-with-the-flow attitude, she seems Dianna’s polar opposite, so when the two girls meet sparks start flying, and not necessarily in a good way. But as they work together and they get to know each other, they discover that they might be more similar than they had initially thought, and more importantly, they’re terribly drawn to each other.** Ends with a cliffhanger. Book 2 of the series, Drift, is already available.**
Debut novel from this author. This book has one of my favorite tropes, closeted celebrity/starlet with a bit of a toaster oven thrown in for good measure.
Dianna is a lead in a treasure hunting themed TV show. Her character Kelsey is very reserved much like the actor in real life. Dianna likes to keep a low profile, she goes out with her boyfriend or hangs with cast of the show. Enter Vivien a gregarious outgoing celebrity royalty. Her dad is a famous director & she was a young actor. She's unabashedly bisexual to those who know her. She's tenacious & a bit wild & a instant sex object to those who enter her orbit. She's down for fun, but love is not her game due to her past. She's now cast on the show.
This story evolves through both main characters & some minor characters (Kyle & Elise). This is a slow read but that's due to the deliberation on the characters growth.
The ending leaves one in a lurch, so don't expect it to be wrapped up ina neat bow. I shall now impatiently wait for the sequel
So this looks like it's first in a series, and while it was fantastic, since the sequel/follow ups aren't out yet, it's kind of a depressing non-ending. If I could dive right into the next book, I'd have no complaints, but I read romance for HEAs, if I want something grittier or less predictable I'll read sci fi or fantasy. So if you need resolution in a novel like I do, follow this author, add this book to your wish list, and wait for the sequel to come out. It's definitely worth the read, but I feel like I was only halfway through at the end. No resolution with the sister, neither main character really changed their habits, the best friend's storyline was only half finished...these are totally fine when there's a second book, or at least a release date. Particularly because it's so darn engaging. The characters development is great, the "god perspective" is well done and contributes to the storytelling, the pacing and plot are great. The only thing lacking is the sequel, but it's really, really needed here. The syntax errors were noticable but not overly distracting. I kind of guess it was written by someone who spoke something besides English as a native language since the narration kept coming out accented in my head. Once I realized that, it actually didn't bother me as much as it usually would. But yeah, at least give me a date to look forward to so I can reread this right before the second book drops.
This was a great book! It kept me intrigued and interested the entire time! I might have cried a few times, but the cliffhanger was the worst! Give us a heads up first or have the 2nd book ready soon! Can’t wait to see if you get them back together or not!
It took me 12hours to read this book. The book is quite substantial. Very interesting storyline with believable characters. But I absolutely hated the ending. I am not a fan of sad endings between the main characters and wish I was forewarned. If I wanted sadness, I would only have to stay in my own reality. Reading, for me is therapeutic. A way ,not to stay in my own misery. Reading gives me a break for my reality, and after that break, allows me to better deal with real life in a calm and collected way. I am one of those people who absolutely needs that happy ending in my books. That's why I read romance. This story was romantic and heart wrenching . But the ending, I absolutely hated it!
Technically there’s a few issues with the book, and the author should have brought in some proofreaders or an editor or something to clean it up. So, that’s obnoxious.
The characters are interesting enough. The storyline is fairly basic. Modest, unassuming television star has a quiet comfortable life that is upset by a brash super extrovert who does whatever she wants and forces herself into the limelight whenever she wants.
They wind up in love. Quiet girl suddenly has to be an extrovert. Is able to maintain for a while and then their relationship crashes and burns.
I’m giving this a 1 star for the sole reason of the authors characterization of the extrovert as being completely correct and right, and then ending the story on a lame cliff hanger. Vivian(our extrovert) breaks up with Dianna(quiet girl) for some valid reasons, but also some very much invalid reasons.
She doesn’t listen to Dianna. I think that’s the worst part about it. This is typical extrovert behaviour. They don’t understand that other people are different from them, don’t find it exciting to be in the eye of the public, or the focus of attention. So when Dianna is breaking down because Vivien won’t listen to her, and Vivien is breaking up with her because she won’t just get over herself and be in the public eye… well, meh.
It’s not abusive. But it’s very much a drag on the story. Now there’s a second book, and I’m sure it will all be a long story about how Dianna ‘discovers’ that Vivien was right all along, and all she had to do to be happy was become a completely different person!
There are hundreds of actresses and actors who live their lives outside of the public eye. Who go to work, do their jobs, and then go home. But this author doesn’t seem to think that’s possible?
Ehh. We will see if book 2 is any better. But I doubt it.
2.5 stars If you want a celebrity story that has lots of physical sex scenes, is not afraid to go into the minutiae of celebrity life this book could be for you.
This is a long read and could have benefited from some rigorous editing and proofreading. If issues around grammar, tense, typos, POV issues, consistency etc are a bug bear this book is probably not for you.Despite these issues I was compelled to finish so the story itself is compelling enough to look over these.
If that is not an issue and you like opposites attract, celebrity, toaster oven books and don’t mind a long read with a non HEA at the end of book one. This could well be your jam.

Dianna is the lead actress in a popular tv series and is very much like her reserved American character Kelsey. When Vivien, a vivacious British celebrity, is hired to play opposite her, Dianna's world is turned upside down. Dianna is a small town girl with a southern upbringing while Vivien, daughter of a film director, is a wild child.
Their journey together is a roller coaster of emotions filled with flirtation, discovery, passion and uncertainty. It's a long book which allows for good story development between the main characters and the very likable friends, mainly Kyle and Elise.
That being said, this entire book is riddled with errors in grammar, spelling, verb tense, etc. It made sense after I read that English is not this author's first language. However, if this series is going to be published for English speaking readers, then it should have gone through another round of proofreading! I hope this will improve in her next books as she's a very interesting, emotional and passionate storyteller!
I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters but unfortunately it felt like a really bad translation from from another language. At times it seemed like it was a foreigner just finding the wrong word and other times the wrong grammar. The story itself was so good that I battled through, but it was hard going. I would like to read the rest in the series but not sure I can struggle through another one. This is a real shame as I loved the whole concept, the ups and downs, the sex scenes and the arguments, they were all so believable and true to life. I would otherwise have rated a 4 maybe even a 5. I'm sure in its first language this is a great book
There is so much going on here and a roller coaster of emotions. Small town girl turned star actress still afraid of what others think about her. Viv on the other hand has had experience dealing with the things Di is having problems with. I’m going right to the next book right away. Enjoy!
GAY PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor Dianna. Figuring out why she can’t ever have a great connection with men. Then, Vivienne comes along and flips her world upside down. DONT read the ending of this book while working out because I had to stop before I passed out bc I was dying from sweating from my work out and crying from the book!!!
I really struggled finishing this one. The English needs a lot of work and the book in general needs a lot of editing. The main characters were strange caricatures of introvert/extrovert where both acted like teenagers instead of grown women. The writing was all over the place and last scene with the main characters honestly creeped me out. I'd recommend therapy for the main characters.
Very long and could probably have been tightened up significantly in editing. Don’t recommend reading until / unless book 2 is released as it just stops and at a not happy place.
I was totally engrossed in this story. Dianna annoyed me at times, grow up grrl. Vivien is a remarkable character. Really enjoyed this cast of characters. Good read!
A lovely book of how two people come together and build a friendship then to love. But coming out is not easy and a difficult time and trying to understand everything the can go with it. Yes, wonderful story don't like the ending but it makes us wait for the next book
