Nomad's Bride

Rate this book
Welcome to Amber Falls, Nevada. This small town is about to meet a very large biker.

Getting a woman that will barely go out with you to be your wife?
Skorpio can handle that.

Noa ‘Skorpio’ Callas isn’t nice.
He’s exactly who he looks like: an outlaw biker that will kick your ass.
Unless you’re a Death Skull leader don’t think about stepping his way.
But you wouldn’t.
He’s very aware of his effect on people.
When he’s sent out to scout a small town in Nevada, he sticks to the shadows because he knows he’ll likely scare the sh*t out of the locals. But the waitress he meets in the wee hours of dawn is nice. And her sweetness is a distraction - so's her mouth.

It only took a year for Lyndie Hargood to get pregnant, cheated on, and abandoned. Now she’s a new mom pulling double shifts to support her child. The father in question has moved on. That’s what men do when they feel like you’ve trapped them.
Her fate’s been sealed - a single mom doomed to struggle.
Then one day she crosses paths with a man that doesn’t belong in Amber Falls.
A tattooed, electric-eyed, walking warning - the type of man who’d stop you in your tracks.
Caught in his stare, Lyndie has no clue that she’ll soon become

DNF. The author needs a better editor, a better sense of switching POV (every two paragraphs was a POV switch with no indicators), an FMC with a backbone, as well as a proper way to paragraph things, among many other things.

CW: mentions of SA

This book is absolutely insufferable.

First of all, this book needs an editor. BADLY. The grammar and spelling mistakes alone are enough to drive you crazy. There’s not enough variation in sentence structure, yet there’s even more.

Along with your plain Jane mistakes, there’s a huge problem with the POV. There’s no indication when the POV is changed mid chapter, and the POVs aren’t labeled so when the FMC and the MMC get together, I have no idea whose POV I’m following. The “thoughts” of the MCs are italicized but they’re not actual thoughts, just facts, so I can’t tell from that either. Plus, there’s POV from people besides the MCs, mainly the antagonists.

Comparatively, I have read books where that’s happened before, but I’ve always thought it then and I think it now- if you have to include those POVs in your story then it’s not clear enough. I didn’t finish this book so it may have served an actual purpose, but I doubt it since the impression I got from the POVs was that those specific characters are terrible people- which I had already gotten, so I’m not sure what purpose the chapters served at all.

In fact, I heavily hate one of those characters already because of all the trouble he’s already caused in the book for the MCs. The author has set the tone as hatred towards these characters, so it’s unnecessary and overkill to use a POV to highlight their character flaws. This is so bad that in the introductory chapters of the book, one of the antagonists is downright nasty to the FMC- but it’s something you would expect later on in the book. There was no exposition; it went 0 to 100 real quick.

It took everything in me not to DNF it right when the abuser’s POV happened, that’s a big no-no in the introduction in the book. That’s how you alienate readers.

Moreover, the plot is contrived. Nothing about this book has felt organic. Nothing. The lack of transitions or clarity makes this hard to read, and so it’s jarring when the FMC is suddenly like ‘it’s weird for me to get off at two but I did today’ and then she gets a birthday gift from the MMC suddenly when there’s been no mention of her birthday at all. When did he even get to know her birthday? Sure there were a few weeks you escalated the timetable, but you HAVE to include your reader.

Further, you have to appeal to your reader. You have to think about your reader’s POV. Do you think your average reader knows what “blue rush” is? We don’t. No amount of context clues or Google helped with that one. “South of the border rock” was another thing that doesn’t make sense. They’re at a strip club in Nevada and playing Mexican rock? I’m sure that’s wrong but again, Google didn’t help with that one. You alienate people with this phrasing. Maybe I’ll have to get in touch with someone from Nevada for it to make sense.

What will never make sense is the confusing paragraphs you’ve drenched this story with. Two examples I wrote down are when the FMC appears to be “thinking” about her shifts, she’s saying something about not being able to double up her shift time for safety. The way it’s written is she’s opening and closing every day, so I’m very confused by this. The other example is the FMC moaning her baby’s name when her fake husband gets her an expensive necklace. I’m so confused and kinda disgusted by this, I don’t even know what the author meant to write. Shit’s weird.

Even with all the strange and unforgivable things going on in this book already, the author’s managed to write a FMC with absolutely no backbone. She hasn’t said no to a single thing she doesn’t want to happen or do in the first 30% of the book, and she was SAed (groping)! It’s infuriating and unrealistic of her to be such a doormat, but here we are. Also, THERE WAS NO TW FOR THIS SCENE. That’s unforgivable and highly problematic.

With all this lack of care put into the book, it’s unsurprising that the author half-asses chapter titles. Some of them just plain don’t make sense, and then some of them are just “part 2” of the first chapter. Like, get an editor to edit this 750 PAGE book. Yes, 750 pages of this bs.

TLDR: this book is a ROUGH first draft with no TW for a graphic scene and needs an editor.

Liked better than the first

I liked this book much better than the first book. Lyndie grew, Noa grew, and the MC grew. I so enjoyed all the characters and how much the bikers loved Lyndie was adorable. This book was fast paced and I was into it the entire time.

Potential, but too many mistakes.

Spoiler ish content!
This story appears to have a good bit of thought put into connecting the characters connections and the story developments. There was certainly potential. It has potential, you might want to try it, but know it needs work.
However, the characters themselves severely lacked back story development. The only thing you know about Noa really is his ethnic background and he used to be a chapter president.
You learn a bit more about Lyndie.
Obvious questions were left unanswered and made you wonder how stupid those club members are. It seemed obvious they should question what actually happened at Noa’s chargers club house. Seems like someone likely sabotaged it.
Some good action moments.
The biggest issue besides the story and writing not being magical or entrancing...
NO ORGANIZATION OR ATTENTION TO DETAIL OF THE BOOK!
There was no separation or organization for who you were readings POV. You would be reading one character and then all of a sudden same chapter, next paragraph BAM it’s someone new....and you’d be taken aback like wait, who’s this now?
Multiple character POVs, besides the main two even.
I don’t know how that type of huge mistake and lack of clean organization even takes place these days. Unless the writer isn’t a reader and doesn’t recognize the sort of unwritten rules of book organization.
The writing also had numerous errors switching between POV tenses.
There was next to none information regarding the club, chapters, where the guys all came from etc.
This book has potential, but this writing technique and planning needs to be seriously edited and worked on for future books.
Paying for a well recommended editor would be worth it if the author isn’t able to self edit and isn’t that familiar with technique, rules and so on.
Potential, try it, but it needs work.
Also, the author made me feel sorry and have interest in the villain, Will, when I’d think that wasn’t her intentions.

This was a good story for the most part. It needed clearer backstory and the author needs a really good editor. There is a lot of random head-hopping in this book. Even in the middle of a paragraph, the POV will switch from one character to another. This make for a head-scratching and frustrating read at time.

There were other little niggles but overall, I liked the story and I'm interested in the next book.

Wonderful story!

Really different! I loved how involved this story got, the Difference between the gangs, and MC's. The crooked cops, and underhanded Small town Rich family drama. Then the is Lyndie, sweet, unlucky girl who is used, and abandoned by the town Sheriff. Then came Noa, big, handsome tattooed hunk. Startling blue eyes and long braided hair. His Greek/Samoan ancestry really works for him. Very involved power struggles but it is all worked out in the end. Very Sweet HEA ending. Trish. A.

I did enjoy elements of the storyline and the evolving relationship...but overall ,this was problematic .As the tale progressed issues with the writing and formatting intensified .Sadly, said issues affected comprehension and enjoyment IMO .I will not be rating ,since I felt compelled to skim and speed read and simply try to move through without my head exploding or having the wonder if my face would be etched with a permanent eyebrow raise!

How much can someone love a book?? I loved every second of this book. A young struggling single mom meets the new biker in town and they instantly hit it off. Sign me up every day and I’ll read it. The characters, the small town, and the tension. The scenes between the two main characters were INTENSE! The stakes are high and they have to trust one another to get things done. I’m so glad I stumbled across this book. I hope to see more from Rachel Cade!!

Firstly this needed a better way of showing a change in POV and the author needed to really craft the different voices. At times all the Male characters sounded the same and all the female characters sounded the same. This became a problem because I was struggling to understand who I was reading from. It wasn't until a character said the persons name that I realised we had swapped Povs. The author could have simply indicated this by just putting the characters name above.

I also felt like time passing was really weird. It was either happening so incredibly fast or incredibly slow. There was no balance.

I really liked at the beginning that the main hero was coming to the dinner and I felt like this could have been the perfect opportunity to actually see them getting to know each other but really we just got multiple repeated scenes that could have been cut to just being one.

The whole relationship and fake marriage aspect felt very confusing for the reader. They marry because his visa has ran out but noting between the couple is discussed about the arrangement other then the money and how long. Like can both of the people sleep with others or are they committed to each other. Things that any sain person would want to know going in it. Then we have a situation where he is introducing the FMC to his MC brothers and she sees a girl under the table, its not clear if she was having sexual contact with only the MC brothers or also with him. Again that is not addressed he just takes the FMC home and they sleep together. I'm just confused around the relationship which is stopping me from actually seeing it as real. There is no development, no getting to know each other, when his MC comes into town its like he switches personality.

The FMC has not backbone at all, she allows people to walk all over her.

Then the final straw was the fact that we got POV from Will who not only sexually assaulted (Groped) the Main FMC at the beginning but was horrible and now you want me as the reader to read his Pov. Absolutely not!!

Trigger warning: Groping.

This is a good, enjoyable book…! It is easy to read, with an interesting plot that twists around the book’s characters: the townsfolk, the MC clubs (Death Skulls, Los Bandidos, the Aztecs), the town’s power players, the dirty town cops...and, of course, the love interests Lyndie and Noa.

The dialog is a little clean for badass bikers – that’s not a complaint so much as an observation. It doesn’t intrude on the story often, but from time to time I felt as if I were listening to a librarian talk, rather than a biker called Skorpio (aka Noa)…complete with, yes, Lucy the scorpion (gotta love her!).

One severe problem is the book’s formatting which makes it difficult to figure out scene changes and in particular to understand who is talking. This seriously gets in the way of the story. It is a consistent problem that pulled me out of the story in order to logic out what was going on. The quotation marks were frequently incorrect so that it appeared that two people were speaking when actually it was one person.

Too often one scene crashes into the next. New characters suddenly appear within a dialog leaving the reader to wonder where these new actors have come from. Then the realization hits that it’s actually another scene with different characters speaking. Good formatting is critical with this style of writing.

The need to slow down, stop, back up, in order to piece together a scene that had changed abruptly -- as well as having to figure out which character is speaking was off-putting. It happened so often, I had to speed up my reading just to get away from it.

And finally I am happy to find a writer who knows the difference between “different from” and “different than” and who uses these phrases properly…at long last…!!! Almost worth a star right here!

All in all, I enjoyed this book, found the love story endearing and I liked the characters enough that I wanted Lyndie and Noa to have their well-deserved happy endings. After all they went through, they most sincerely deserved their Happily Ever After. I am looking forward to reading more that this author has to offer.

Yes! I loved this book. Noa, Lyndie and Baby Max will both melt your heart.

Lyndie's World intersects with Noa when she's a little short on money to buy diapers for her baby boy, Max. Just arrived in town, Noa (he's everything) silently buys the pampers and keeps it moving. The next morning he wants breakfasts and arrives on the doorstep of where Lyndie works as a diner waitress. The restaurant isn't open, but she makes an exception and it becomes their routine. Lyndie knows that Noa is a MC nomad and it's only a matter of time before he leaves town.

When Noa's past comes to rear its ugly head, he asks a big favor of Lyndie and she jokingly says yes until she realizes, he's serious. He's so serious that he's willing to part with cash to make it a done deal. Only Lyndie is not free of her past, the father of her baby, Will doesn't want anything to do with her and the baby he fathered—yet he cannot stay away from her. He exerts his power using overt aggression and silent intimidation. We learn he's never held or even seen Max except accidentally when she was walking down the street.

What I found interesting is the whole town knows it's his baby and he's a deadbeat father, yet they don't hold him accountable when Lyndie doesn't have enough money to pay for diapers. They look down on her, really? The other interesting element to the story is that Will, who's the sheriff of Amber Falls believes himself to be a good guy, better than Noa who is part of an MC. When in reality the lines are blurred and there is actually a role reversal between the two of them.

Highly Recommended: Read It!

Next up: Whisper
(October 2023) though I have no idea who he will be paired with—perhaps Lyndie's friend.

Four and a half stars

There are a lot of reviews that state tons of misspelling and other editing errors. I must have read an updated version because I didn't find that to be an issue.

I generally don't like long books. I've been DNFing a ton of books that are a lot shorter lately, because they just aren't keeping my interest.

This book not only held my interest, but it was unpredictable which I very much appreciate.

I enjoyed it a great deal.

There were a couple of tiny things I need to mention that bugged me, but they in no way detracted from my enjoyment.

First, Lyndie is a breastfeeding mother, yet at no point during sexy times involving nipple play was there any mention of leakage, which is ridiculous and misleading. I'm guessing the author has not experienced breastfeeding herself.

Second, there are some confusing formatting issues. There's a lack of proper breaks between sections which means you are reading along and all of a sudden the scene has changed with no notice.

I enjoyed this MC story of a Nomad who ends up in a small town with little intentions of staying long. That changes when he’s asked to do recon for his club. During his stay he runs into our hardworking and sweet FMC, Lyndie. Lyndie is a single mom doing the best she can for her child after the baby’s dad decided he didn’t want to step up. She’s wary of Noa because he doesn’t fit in to their small town vibes. It takes her a some time to get comfortable with him and the attraction she has for him grows gradually.

I love how sweet and caring Noa is with her and how he takes her being a single mom with grace. He likes her and accepts her son as part of her. When Noa is in need of a reason to stay in the US he reaches out to her with a deal she can’t refuse. A marriage of convenience in order to help him stay and some money for her to help her be a little bit more comfortable financially. Lines blur through their arrangements and feelings start to develop. They make a great couple and the way he cares for them both is amazing.

the only Scorpio I will ever love lol

This dude Scorpio is wild. The whole real scorpions? No. The man Scorpio, yes ma’am all day and night long. Loved the way he is physically described.
The story was great. Loved the interactions between this couple; from their simple dating life at the diner to the fabulous Las Vegas wedding it was a romantic whirlwind courtship. So romantic for a hardened man.
Also a very erotic story. Heat factor 1,998,982,988,399, and wow.
The unique twist in the single mom plot was her ex being in law enforcement and loved by the town, all the while he had done her wrong and didn’t support their baby Max. He also cruelly stalked her(Poor Lindey.) Jerkface loser Will the Dill and his tiny gerkin energy.
The other woman drama came from Lindey’s ex, his fiancé Ashley. She’s a witch. She also has aspirations to steal the baby away- watch out for her.

What a goofy ass book.

My first issue: The reviews saying it was confusing when the author switched point of views suddenly from paragraph to paragraph was so accurate. As the book progressed, it became increasingly difficult to figure out whose point of view it had switched to. Additionally, there were times it was a completely brand new scene but there was no indication and I had to figure it out through context clues. But some scenes continued after the start of a new chapter. It was just very bizarre.

Second: I think the book was way too long. The first 75% dragged on quite a book. There was too much confusion and filler. Then all of a sudden the last 25% was a clusterfuck of 17 POVs, some from characters who hadn’t even had a POV in the entire book until that very moment. All this while a lot of things were going on. I wanted to follow along but it was so difficult to do so.

It was very much a disappointment.

3.5 ⭐️ - The book was good and I would read this author again, but I’m not really interested in continuing the series or going to look at the authors other books.

There was no real character development, either personally for each character or the relationship between characters. It was almost just implied that they were developing a relationship, but realistically we went from the main characters meeting, to getting married and falling in love without us seeing any actually relationship or feelings developing between them.

Some of the conversations or sentences were also confusing. They either didn’t make sense because the sentence itself didn’t make sense or it didn’t make sense because it was vague and you were meant to understand the vague reference, but had no context to understand it.

The plot of the story was interesting, albeit a bit confusing and unfinished in some places. We still don’t really have any idea why Tin wanted to settle in Amber Falls.

Good story..bad formatting

The story is good. There is no way you can't love Noa. He likes to try to fly under the radar allowing for his alpha ways to sneak up on you. He is calm, unless provoked and very intelligent. Definitely doesn't give away all his secrets, which makes him a good leader.

Lyndie is a small town girl that has been walked all over by her first love. It isn't until an unlikely love interest (Noa) comes along and sweeps her off her feet that she is able to let go and truly see her ex for the lying, cheating, and corrupt cop that he is.

The storyline is good, but the execution can be difficult to follow. I think that is due to formatting issues. There are time jumps and character changes without any warning, which is confusing. All in all if that were addressed the book would be so much easier to follow.

yikes

Y’all this book is a headache. This author needs an editor or 5 and to learn the basics of writing/storytelling, first second and third point of view writing was a nightmare to wrap my head around, and multiple POVS from every Tom dick and Harry like I don’t care if it doesn’t have substance to which a lot of it didn’t. Lyndie could be a sack of potatoes with her personality and you couldn’t tell a difference. So much was left unanswered or was wholly unnecessary and idk we just don’t get enough about the characters so I don’t care or root for them. Some scenes were awkward also like Noa “looks at his visible Nipple piercings and smiles”….. why. It wasn’t really in context and idk. I also feel like their relationship escalated weirdly and for 500+ pages it didn’t lead to anything.

It has potential it just needs editors, honest proof readers and some revision.

You’re going to need to concentrate through some interesting formatting and narrative choices with this one.

The author tells the story through 3rd person, which I don’t normally enjoy, but what was different here was the rapid change in perspective - with no warning. And it’s not just MMC and FMC, you’re often getting the POV of side characters too.

And yeah, you might have to battle through some strange formatting during character conversations also, but if you, like me, can get through the above, you’ll be able to figure out who is talking and when.

I love a good MC story and while I wish there was a little more meat on Noa’s backstory, particularly the ‘skorpio’ angle and his Greek/Samoan heritage, I enjoyed this.

Enough to carry on with the next book in the series? That’s a whole other question.

No, Wow needed better editing.

Broken sentences, missing commas and really, Brown breasts??? Is that supposed to be sexy? Ugh. Not to mention the physical anomalies or should I say abnormalities...So breast feeding one minute and bottles miraculously appear and of course all bikers know how to feed and change a 2 month old. Speaking of which, how old is the kid? Born 2 months early and 2 months old , ok but she hasn't had any in how long? The sex scenes were very confusing, I think she was trying for a little bondage but it really didn't work. I'm sorry, the whole thing read like the Junior League version of an MC .. All the supposed bad stuff was broadly, badly hinted at but with absolutely no follow up. Looking now at KINDLE'S return policy.

First in a Series…..I hope

This is my first time reading anything by this page author. I don’t know if that is because she hasn’t written anything else. In any event, I hope we get more DEATH Skulls MC BOOKS. Noa and Lyndie/Babygirl made an awesome pair. Will was so gross that every time he was alone with Lyndie I was nervous. The secondary characters were interesting….I would gladly read a story about any of the other brothers…Bleed, Chaos, Whisper….
This book is free on KU….but I am going to buy it for my library. There some wonky editing issues….mostly page spacing but in no way did it distract from the story.

I went into this one blind and it was ok. I’m always iffy on books with MC heroes but this one worked for the most part. The two main characters were like able, it’s just the rest that got in the way.

The book was a little too chaotic, multiple POV with no clear markers to indicate when it was going to shift made it hard to follow sometimes. That and just too much drama (corrupt cops + two extra rival MC’s + a lot of passed incidents that were mentioned but not fleshed out + a super catty woman antagonizing the FMC = too much to keep up with)

If the shifting POV was managed better then maybe the excessive drama could have been followed, but it just didn’t work.

Overall, the book was well written as far as storyline. In many ways, I came for the romance but stayed for the small town suspense. I can't decide if I liked the many points of view or not. Sometimes, the transition was weird, but that could have been more about the digital format/device I was reading on. There were also a couple of issues with correct pronouns and an out of place article that bothered the english teacher in me. I think I would have rated this higher if the romance story stood out more to me. I liked the characters Lyndie and Noa. Both were strong characters. I just unfortunately was not invested in their love story.

Damnit! Why is it the first MC book I've enjoyed in ages by a new-to-me author who has no other books out????😫 I really liked this---I mean I had to wrap my head around a see-through men's tank top, a biker that travels with a hair straightener, and a somewhat hard to believe chaotic ending---but aside from that 😆, this was fun! I liked both main characters and was even interested in reading about some of the secondary characters. This is why, immediately after finishing, I went to download the next book in the series. I mean, this was written years ago, so surely several more books are out there--WRONG! What happened to this author? It looks like she just disappeared.

A happy ending for Lindie and Noa

This is book one in the Death Skulls series. This is a good MC story and romance. Noa is a Nomad who experienced an awful event in the past, but the President Tin gives him an assignment in this small off the path town. There is a waitress named Lyndie that catches Noa’s eye and vice versa. There is more going on in this town that is not good. Overall it is a good story but the one issue that distracted me was when the POV changes there are no indicators until you read that next paragraph and discover that it’s a new or different scene. Read On!

Noa and Lyndie are the main characters. Lyndie had a 5 year relationship that fell apart when she got pregnant. Unfortunately, now he’s town sheriff, a total jerk, and he won’t leave her and their young son in peace.

Noa is a nomad for his MC. He was tasked with checking out a new town and while there he finds out that his papers expired and he could be deported. So he needs a wife asap.

Of course baby daddy is a bad person and a bad sheriff and things go crazy when there’s drug dealing, 2 motorcycle gangs working together to bring down Noa’s MC, and her boss at the diner is involved in all this.

Noa & Lyndie: triggers- domestic abuse, assault, drugs, child abandonment, corruption, green card. I really liked this book, I could not put it down. noa, is a nomad for the death skulls MC and he stops on Amber falls. a waitress catches his attention and he decides to stay in town for awhile. only there's more going on in this town than just small town living. the sheriff is trying to run him off and seems really emphatic about it. but it really pisses the sheriff off when Noa's club comes to town ready to set up shop. this book has humor, drama, action and so much steam you'll sweat. only problem I had were the spelling and dramatic errors.
