Having cut my teeth on true crime magazines, I have always been intrigued by true crime books. Mr. Keller is one of the best at what he does. With his books, you get several cases in each book, with each chapter providing sufficient information to not only acquaint the reader with the crime but also the outcome where possible.
These stories sometimes cover crimes in three centuries, practically ensuring that you'll read about cases you've never heard about before. From serial killers to poisoning doctors to vengeful mothers, from ax murders to gender dysphoria, you will find them in these pages.
Wow! That is all I could think as I read this collection of true crime stories by Robert Keller. I was not familiar with most of the cases in this volume, but still enjoyed the book tremendously. The author does an excellent job of explaining the cases and creates quite an intriguing read! A must-read if you enjoy true crime stories.
I received a free ARC from the author and am voluntarily giving my true opinion of the book.
After reading these true crime stories, I was forced to assess what I thought about a particular crime, namely the Dr. Shepherd case. The evidence presented by Mr. Keller in a parallel story made me question something I never had. The other vignettes were equally as intriguing and at times sad. The reasons / excuses for ending another person's life ranged from greed to heartbreak and envy.
There always seemed another avenue that could have been taken that didn't end in death and grieving survivors (parents, children, spouses, and friends of both the victims and their killers). Most of the murderers were easily apprehended as were accomplices. Their murderous acts were vile and unnecessary. Robert Keller once again was able to present "just the facts" in a compelling yet "entertaining" manner. Unfortunately these stories weren't fiction. The people involved were murder victims and killers. A student of true crime comes away with a better understanding of what drives people to commit these vile acts.
It’s always a treat when a new book in this series arrives. Generally, I will read them the same day they come. Volume 31 is just as good as the others. The stories are told in such a way that your interest is captivated as you’re led through the always bizarre by-ways in which people are selected for murder. Some of these stories make you want to pull down the shades and lock the doors. Really, under the right circumstances, just about anyone may start on a murderous path.
This book, like others in the series holds your attention with accounts of very dastardly crimes, all told (despite the content) with good taste, objectivity, and a style of writing that's engaging and personable. Keller makes it sound he's talking to you directly. Great series!
I wait every month for Roberts book.the way he writes is fabulous. Even the deadly woman are great.I have read all books, that he has written can't wait for mum 32 to come out. Just a great writer sometimes a bit funny but all in good taste.
This is truly a very interesting book so much so that it grabs the reader's attention and holds it from the book's very first page to the very last. A truly must read.
Basically just a regurgitation of obscure facts. One or two compelling stories but not worth a purchase. Fiction writers would consider this a short story, its that short
