Andrei Ivanov, a lonely, single father is awoken suddenly one night by his three-year-old daughter, Natalia, sleepwalking during a violent thunderstorm.
Little does Andrei know, but this disturbing incident is only the beginning of a series of terrifying events in which his life will begin to unravel at a breathtaking pace.
At the hands of a malevolent, otherworldly entity, which lays claim to Natalia, Andrei experiences horrifying hallucinations, family tragedy, murder, and the suspicious death of the prominent physician who was to treat his little girl for her erratic behavior.
As he spirals into an unstoppable nightmare, Andrei begins to question his sanity as he learns the true nature of his adversary and realizes he faces an unearthly battle to save his daughter's eternal soul.
At its best, this is a horror novel that offers the reader some real surprises. Not wishing to give any spoilers, I will say only that the book takes us into a few directions that I did not expect. The plot moves in some dark directions, and it is presented in some delightfully grisly scenes. Readers who are principally interested in finding a harrowing tale are likely to be happy with this choice.
On the downside, the dialogue in this novel veers into the tedious at times. This is especially clear in Chapter 26, where the motivations of a key character are presented in great detail. The author, apparently, has some things to say about society, and that's fair; a little bit of trimming would have done wonders, however.
In the end, I'd like to say that I appreciated the way the author wrapped up the story. Once the terms of the conflict were fully laid out, there was only one way to bring about a resolution. By then, it's really too late to veer away. The author could have come up with any of a dozen excuses to take it more into the stereotypical Hollywood ending, but didn't. That deserves respect.
A great first book by the author. it had all the elements of a good horror story but also dealt with a few of the other demons which lie which lie beneath the human psyche. The book leaves the reader uneasy but with a curiosity that keeps you compulsively reading to the last page. there is also a sensitivity to this story who would be Stoney hearted enough not to warm to the main characters admiration for his daughter and sympathise with his everyday life issues. but the reader is also lead on a dark journey of suspense with some gore and a few doses of titillation to boot. The story moves along at a good pace and gets better with each chapter the creepiness factor is a definite component but so is the strong storyline and relevant characters. this is a one-of-a-kind original with many a twist and turn and ghostly activity that will make your blood turn cold its exciting fast paced and beautifully written. a great add on to the horror genre and I would love to read more books from the author in the future.
As far as the whole trope of ‘there’s something paranormal happening with my daughter’ goes, this one was a pleasant surprise. The author does an excellent job getting you interested in what’s happening with the characters early so becoming invested in the book feels effortless. This book was unsettling and feeds into paranoia in absolutely the best ways.
