The Lord has declared that each member of His Church possesses at least one spiritual gift. But many Latter‑day Saints are unaware of their spiritual gifts. Other Saints are aware of their gifts but don't know how to fully develop them. In Gifted: Spiritual Gifts and the Christlike Life, Lloyd D. Newell and Mary Jane Woodger provide fascinating insight into the spiritual gifts as outlined in scripture and by prophets in our day. This book will help you to identify and hone your spiritual gifts so that you can use them to bless your life and the lives of others. One or more of the following sacred gifts are yours, perhaps only waiting to be discovered:
The gift to know by the Holy Ghost that Jesus Christ is the Son of God The gift to believe on the words of those who testify The gift to know the differences of administration The gift to know the diversities of operations The gift of the word of wisdom The gift of the word of knowledge The gift to have faith to heal The gift to have faith to be healed The gift of the working of miracles The gift to prophesy The gift of the discerning of spirits The gift of speaking in tongues The gift of the interpretation of tongues
What a beautifully written book and resource to help members of the church understand the importance of recognizing the gifts we possess and why we need to exercise and develop them. Filled with powerful insights and quotes, this book will become a great resource in helping members "seek earnestly the best gifts." As we do this we are promised that our knowledge will expand, our faith will increase and we will develop our ability to live a more Christlike life.
At a time when self-esteem (or lack thereof) seems to take precedence in the public eye, it's wonderful to find a book that requires the reader to think more deeply about what the Lord and His prophets have said about the gifts (and talents) He has given us, and how to appreciate and use them to their fulness. Well-written. Highly recommend.
Pros: the first chapter is exactly what I was looking for. A look at gifts of the spirit, pulling different scriptural passages together. I glanced through the other chapters, and I will likely use this book as a reference.
Cons: There are a couple conclusions drawn, stated as fact, and my knowledge of the gospel is at odds with them. Additionally, the copy editing was poor, and I spent half an hour flipping pages back and forth, adding my own endnotes to quotations within the chapter that weren't connected to their citations.
In times like now with a Pandemic, Political Issues and Uncertainty in our world, this book " GIFTED " - Spiritual Gifts And The Christlike Life, by Lloyd D. Newell and Mary Jane Woodger is a wonderful journey in learning how to obtain these cherish spiritual gifts from our father. I found this book being a marvelous, educational and an essential read for me in these troubled times. Just Wonderful!
Gifted rekindled my motivation to rediscover my spiritual gifts, seek them more frequently and earnestly, and evaluate how I can use them to bless others’ lives. This book explains the meaning of the gifts spoken of in Doctrine and Covenants 46, gives examples of them in the scriptures, and, most importantly, shares with us how to prepare ourselves to be blessed with these gifts. It is an easy and interesting read.
This book based on scripture gave in depth information about gifts of the spirit. I found it an insightful tool that has helped me with my scripture study of this subject. It is so pertinent for our times.
This was a little different than I anticipated. I thought it was going to be more about spiritual gifts in general, finding and developing one's own unique ones. Rather, it was a gift-by-gift treatment of D&C 46. Which was great, once I shifted my expectations.
this book is a helpful resource for better understanding the idea of spiritual gifts and how to increase upon what God has given to you. it was a good reminder to be less complacent.
