It’s the type of question Fin avoids by staying alone. His only companion now is the dwindling ghost of his girlfriend in a perfume bottle. In an Ireland overrun with weepers, cities are ash, towns are animated graveyards and nothing survives the roads for long.
While searching for loved ones he has no hope of finding, he is hunted by the undead and haunted by the things he has done to get this far. Too far to fail. He thought the rivers were the safest way to travel, until a horde forced him to spend a night on an island with other refugees. To drown out the sound of weeping on the surrounding shores, survivors tell their stories. Easy conversation, a roaring fire, full bellies and booze – it has the makings of a night to remember, but has the infection already made it to the island?
How can Fin trust these people when he knows there are no more innocent survivors?
Eoin Brady is the author of apocalyptic horror, epic fantasy, and contemporary romance novels, most of which are set in Ireland, where he lives and writes. Weep, his most recent story, begins on the West of Ireland as the country is ravaged by a mysterious disease.
He is currently writing three series: Weep (Post-apocalyptic horror), Somniloquent (Epic fantasy) and I'm Not Saying It (Contemporary romance). There are a few standalones in the pipeline also.
I loved the Weep series as well as this book which is part of it. I was hooked on the books and loved the characters as well. I hope there are more books to come because i can only guess at what happened to the others. I definitely recommend the series but I would like a conclusion.
Great novella, I read weep first and this is a great continuation of story. As always the characters are raw and realistic. I can't wait for the next book
What a thrilling read! Loved the survivors stories. Kind of book you devour in one go. This new zombie series has already made it into my top 3 of the genre.
Interesting take on the zombie apocalypse genre. A shame more of the main character's story isn't explored further, however, it is just a novella so expect short and sweet. I trust the broader series goes into further detail and fills in the holes from this little side adventure.
Fell off the reading horse in the last two months as life got in the way and a couple not so riveting books so thought I’d jump back in with this novella.
I love the Weep series and this little one just builds on the world and helps me jump back into it before Man Of Famine next year. It does however confirm that I am a wimp who doesn’t sleep well after reading a scary book before bed but suppose that’s further evidence to the good world building by Brady.
This was excellent! An Irish zombie style apocalypse with weepers as well as zombies! A really well written & very enjoyable twist on the standard story! I liked that it was based in Ireland, makes a nice change! A good selections of ideas & well thought out characters! I will, for sure, look for more by this author & I do recommend for all that love this genre!
I really enjoyed my time with the first two instalments in this series, and this novella was absolutely no exception.
We pick up with Fin from the first book, who’s been through the ringer at this point. He’s a bit jaded — more of a hardened survivor now— but still just as empathetic (if a bit guilt-ridden) and likeable as he always was.
We’re introduced to some new characters as well, with Eilish and Jack being my particular favourites, along with their origins during the outbreak. I found myself attached to almost all of them by the end. (Shoutout to Jack and his INSANE bravery.)
Eoin’s prose is always biting and punchy, but he also has this ability to sprinkle in tender, very human moments amidst the fear and dread — which I really appreciate. (The conflict with Josh is a particular standout for me)
The story ends fairly abruptly, so I can only hope the next instalment ‘Man of Famine’ comes out ASAP.
You know the books are good when you wish there were more pages to carry on the world you’ve immersed yourself in.
The first 15 pages of this book hooked me instantly. As for the rest of the book, following our main character's feelings brings out an undeniable human element in a world overrun by weepers and zombies. Some of the best stories within this story come from those met along the way. Their tales had me hooked on the anxiety I felt, turning to the next page.
It goes without saying that this is one of those books that will be made into a movie. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Fin is going to die of liver failure before he dies of zombies.
My favorite part of this series is how miserable the weather is all. The. Time. Lol, Ireland, your climate sucks!
This story didn't do a ton to further the plot of the overarching series, but it did get us further along the timeline, and I am VERY intrigued about the possibility of smart zombies.
And we finally got a mention of potatoes! Yay, Ireland!
I really enjoyed reading this, it’s just a pity that it’s more of a short story than anything. The post apocalyptic genre definitely pulls me in and I had saw this advertised by the author on Tiktok, I decided to give it a shot and it kept me interested throughout the whole read. There’s a lot in this to story to develop on and I’ll be looking for more of Eoin’s work
This is a great post apocalyptic book. Short, but well developed for the next part of the story. It did end rather abruptly, which was disappointing, but overall, it's worth the read.
Man this series is so good, can't get enough of it,onto Slack Jaw now ,hoping Eoin keeps going with this , I'm addicted. Read this series ,it's superb.
