Masterful psychic cat detective Mr. Poe is cunning enough to solve any mystery Haven throws at him. When his mentor, the zombie sheriff Gwyneth Gresham, fails to return from a trip to her ranch, Mr. Poe is the only one who suspects foul play. With only the help of his protege, a kitten named Louisa May, Mr. Poe must discover Gwyn’s whereabouts—and rescue her from dangers of her own making.
Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.
If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have to sign up to learn it. ;) Check it out -- http://smarturl.it/armyofevil
Introducing...The 5-Quote Super Extra Crappy Non-Review (5QSECNR™)! Yay!
①
“Three things in life are inevitable: death, taxes, and the supremacy of felines.”
That is a truth universally acknowledged, yes.
②
“Yet another advantage cats had over humans was an ability to nap on command. Noncats seemed to have no clue that this was a skill they should develop. They chased consciousness with liters of coffee and bright lights meant to simulate day. It was no wonder they stumbled around, clumsy and bereft of cleverness, sleep deprived as they were.”
Not to be contrary or disrespectful and stuff, but it sure looks like some cats should work on developing the aforementioned on-command napping skill:
See what I mean?
③
“Getting captured by vampires may have seemed to be a mishap, but it was far more calculated than that.”
You are so deliciously full of crap, Mr Poe.Of course it was. I mean, Mr Poe would obviously NEVER get his little feline self abducted in such a moronic blunderous way. The ever-cunning, super clever strategist that he is would NEVER allow it.
④
“Her head flopped backward. “Dammit,” she said, and her voice came out of her throat, which had been halfway severed.”
Oops. Also: severed heads for the win!
⑤
“Come, Louisa May! Villainy is afoot!”
Watch out, Holmes & Watson, for Poe and Louisa May are coming for you!
Oh, Mr. Poe. I genuinely like this shapeshifting cat and his not-so-quiet disdain for those who aren't of the feline persuasion. And some who are. I'm looking at you Cesar. Just so we're clear, while Mr. Poe's mummies aren't feline, they are utterly wonderful, in his lofty opinion. So there are some exceptions to his non-feline disdain.
Another such exception is Gwyn Gresham. A vision or two leads Mr. Poe to believe Gwyn is in danger and he (along with his trusty, fully-feline sidekick) does everything he can to get to her before her time runs out.
No worries, though. It's nothing a brilliant, shapeshifting cat (who routinely solves mysteries and has the help of a kittenish sidekick) can't handle. GOOD STUFF ALL AROUND.
Poor Mr. Poe is so misunderstood. Cesar doesn’t appreciate him for the brilliant (and modest) detective that he is. He thinks that Mr. Poe’s psychic abilities should be used as a last resort, because he considers it rude get into someone’s head – even though that’s the best possible way to get to the bottom of some investigations. And then there’s his protege, Louisa May. She’s young and inexperienced, but Mr. Poe has no doubt that under his guidance she’ll grow into a wonderful assistant. His mommies have no idea about his abilities and he intends to keep it that way. The only person who truly appreciates all his talents is Gwyn, which is why it’s devastating when he has premonitions about her being in danger and there’s no one he can turn to, except for maybe Cesar, who doesn’t believe him. He has no choice but to grab Louisa May and launch a rescue on his own.
Of course, everything goes exactly as planned, except for maybe a few minor obstacles. What could possibly go wrong when a exceptional cat accompanied by his sleepy kitten goes off to rescue a zombie?
I adore Mr. Poe and it’s fun seeing other characters that I’ve grown to love through another character’s eyes. Even though said character has a love (tolerate)/hate relationship with one of my favorite Descentverse characters. There are some faults that can be overlooked when you’re as exceptional as Mr. Poe ❤
When Mr. Poe's friend, Gwen Grisham, doesn't return from her ranch, Poe has a feeling something is wrong. The problem is no one will believe him. He's even taken to human form to talk to Cesar about it. It looks like Mr. Poe will have take things up into his own hands, I mean paws. In this next delightful tale, we encounter Poe training his pet cat and trying to maintain a cordial relationship with Cesar. What could go wrong?
Another Mr. Poe-story! This one was rather short-even compared to the others-and it was mostly about Mr. Poe's family, but the mystery was interesting enough and I liekd the characters and such, as well. The writing is, as always from Reine, good.
I am a little worried this might be the last Mr. Poe book, however, as it had a kind of finality to it that the other books haven't had!
I totally enjoy this series! It has some drama and at times I caught myself laughing out loud. I enjoyed the antics of Mr. Poe, whether cat or boy. Also I'm really curious if this is the final book in the series? If so, I'm going to miss it! It was truly entertaining!
Yes it's short but so beautifully written it suck's u in. I love Mr Poe the shape-shifting kitten/child his friends & family & the world that SM Reine creates. I can't wait to read more.
A different take on cozy mysteries. I love the addition of Louisa May. Mr. Poe is so cute. If my cats were into solving crimes they may just be like Mr. Poe. I like the fantastical/supernatural aspect. Quite fun.
This time Mr. Poe is on his own as his original human helper, Sheriff Gwen, is missing and his substitute helper doesn't believe there's a problem. But Mr. Poe, and his trusty sidekick Louisa May (the kitten he adopted), are more than up for the challenge.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mr. Poe! These books are so sweet and funny! Now we have Louisa May and I'm just in awe of these! The Descent verse is the place to be!
