I love a good radio drama, and lately, thanks to audiobooks, the format has been revived in fully dramatized stories. That’s what you get with High Strangeness, a quirky, often funny, tale of paranormal craziness that is so out of hand it will quite likely destroy life as we know it. A fanatical paranormal investigator stumbles into an actual otherworldly event and runs afoul of a secret government agency that both investigates these happenings and tries to shut up anyone else who finds out about them. A lot of the action is delightfully over the top. You’ve got clones, cow mutilations, a bizarre religious cult, rival paranormal investigators, coverups, the aforementioned end of the world, and an awful lot of fun. The book is set up for a sequel and I’m certainly hoping we get one.

Notes:

Currently on Audible Plus

Dramatized podcast with an excellent cast of narrators & audio production.
The story has humor like Ghostbusters/Scooby-Doo. It's kinda like what would happen if there was an X-Files for kids.

3 Stars for Story, 4.5 Stars for Audio Production & Narration Crew

Also, I had to slow down to 2x speed because the main character talks like a runaway train. =P

This was a fun romp with two groups of paranormal investigators who became involved in an alien invasion while a secret government agency tries to get things under control and save the universe. Fantastic cast. Very funny and heartwarming as well. Left open for further adventures which I hope they do. Cassie and Glen belong together. Loved this and hope Audible does more of them. Excellent production and great music too.

Sophie McShera was outstanding as was all the other performers in this fun sci-fi story. I got confused a few times but then finally would get back on track as to what was going on as there was so much going on and so many characters. But the charm of this podcast story is reminiscent to the TV shows X-Files, Sliders, and Supernatural. It had the alien sci-fi of X-Files, the high jinx of Sliders, and the humorous charm of Supernatural. It was weirdly a sci-fi geeks audio-candy. At least it was for me.

I didn’t like this at all. The ‘acting’ in the audio was terrible and had me rolling my eyes and sighing so much, I wasn’t able to pay proper attention to the storyline (not that it was much better than the acting). Definitely not my cup of tea.

This Audible podcast is a fun and entertaining sci fi adventure. Fully dramatized, the acting and sound add to the story. While not especially original, the characters were likable and the story engaging. If you are a fan of shows like Doctor Who, this should be right up your alley.

Great cast and production.

Not a lot of laughs beyond the occasional chuckle, and the story was very basic.

But, it was free, and there's enough going for it to recommend to others who might like this kind of production.

I'm not sure what it is about these audible podcasts. They're fine, but maybe I'm expecting too much from them? Like, some kind of poignancy? I think I am. This was a fun listen, well acted, well told, and occasionally funny.

3.5 stars!

The story begins strong but I don't really like how it ends. The ending was rushed and as the result, all the previous build-ups were thrown out of the windows!

This audio drama in the vein of Lovecraftian horror was fantastic find for Halloween. The cast did a phenomenal job. I'm really hoping for more hijinks from this crew!
