US Marshal Madison James may not be sure who shot her three months ago, but she does know one thing--it's time to get back out into the field. When her partner, Jonas Quinn, receives a message that a federal warrant just came in on a man connected to a string of bank robberies, Madison jumps at the chance to get back to work. What she and Jonas find is a bank robbery in progress that's gone wrong--and things are about to get worse.

For these bank robbers, it's never been just about the money. It's about taking risks and adrenaline rushes, and getting caught is not part of the game. When the suspects escape, Madison and Jonas must hunt them down and bring them to justice before someone else--someone close to them--gets hurt . . . or worse.

From Seattle to the San Juan Islands, bestselling author Lisa Harris takes you on a nonstop chase where feelings are complicated and failure isn't an option.

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second book in the US Marshall series. The author brings plenty of action and suspense to this Christian crime thriller that’s set in and around Seattle, Washington. This novel picks up three months after Deputy U.S. Marshal Madison James was shot. She’s finally ready for her first day back at work. When her partner Deputy U.S. Marshall Jonas Quinn gets the federal warrant for a suspect involved in a string of bank robberies, they and a small task force head to the last known location of the suspect. While the search is underway, they’re notified of another bank robbery in progress that has gone wrong. This stunning start begins an action-packed few days of chasing suspects.

Madison and Jonas are easy to like and root for, and were credible and relatable. The author does a good job of giving them depth including flaws and virtues. They’re determined and intelligent, but also exhibit frustration and vulnerability. Both have also walled off their hearts due to past relationships and losses and have complicated feelings affecting their personal lives. Madison was portrayed as a stronger protagonist in this second story in the series. The secondary characters are not as well-developed, but they enhanced the story. Hopefully, some of them will get more depth in the next book in the series.

The physical world-building was vivid and ranged from the various areas in Seattle to the nearby San Juan Islands. Once again I learned more about the US Marshall Service and their fugitive investigations and how they work with other law enforcement agencies. The author weaved this into the story line without detracting from the flow and action. She also did this with a cold case that Madison has been trying to solve. The ending is a nail-biter that is impactful. The Christian theme appears periodically in the novel but isn’t overwhelming. Other themes include handling grief, healing, criminal motivations, friendship, complicated feelings, and the rise of social media in investigations.

Overall, this was an edge-of-seat chase that kept me full engaged and was riveting, intriguing, and thrilling, and has the hint of a future romance. The story was compelling and a great sophomore addition to the series. I highly recommend this to those that enjoy action-packed suspense stories featuring law enforcement officers. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. The series is best read in order as the first novel gives a lot of background information on the characters.

This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. The publication date was July 6, 2021. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

Characters: Earlier this year, I read The Escape, the first book in this trilogy, and I wasn't a big fan of Madison and Jonas. However ... I really enjoyed reading about them in this book! They've grown on me, and I'm ready to see where their story goes in the third book. I think it's very cool to have the same main characters for three books!

Language: Clean.

Moral: The main moral of this novel was trusting God. This was shown in Madison's life. I liked that she didn't have one single moment where she got over her trust problem.

Plot: Wow! This book was suspenseful ... hostage situations, fugitive pursuits, shootouts, surprise attacks!

Romance: Clean. Jonas and Madison's romance progressed at a slow, natural rate.

Writing: Lisa Harris's style worked great for this novel and helped keep the action/suspense going. I'm looking forward to reading more by her.

Overall: The Chase was a suspenseful read, and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

The Chase is a race filled with twists and complications. It is an engaging read and builds on book one while being enjoyable on its own. The characterization is rich, and the pacing great. It’s fascinating look at what the US marshals do.

It's fun to read a novel that transpires over the course of around 48 hours. Lots of action in the pages.

After a leave of absence, US Marshal Madison James returns to duty and working with partner Jonas on a spree of bank robberies.

'Her goal was to eliminate the threat and make sure they didn't open themselves to an attack.'

I'd never read anything by Lisa Harris until I read her 2020 novel, The Escape, which was the first in her US Marshals series. It was great and I started looking forward to the next book in the series. And let me tell you, my wait was more than well worth it. I was absolutely captivated by this story. The Chase is quite aptly titled, too, by the way. The two main protagonists are in a highly intenseful chase for fugitives who always seem to be one step ahead of them. Jonas Quinn and Madison James are partners in the US Marshals service and are incredibly good at their jobs. This time they are up against some bad guys who have every contingency all planned out, though, so they must find a way to up their game in order to capture these folks and stop the madness. I was so intrigued all the way by not only the writer's skill at creating such a great story, but at how these two law enforcement officers went about their jobs, deciphering clues and chasing off on the next lead. It was so interesting!

'She was the one who went after the criminals. Not the other way around.'

At the same time that Jonas and Madison are chasing after these fugitives, Madison still hasn't solved a cold case from five years ago and one other devastating event. There is a spiritual thread here, a good, one, a smatter of romance, but the suspense is the king of this show! Hands down. It is high-octane suspense throughout! I could not stop reading, and I had chores to do. I couldn't wait to get back to the book when life interrupted. And there is another book in the series!

Harris has created two main characters that nearly leap off the pages and who fit their roles so well that it's like watching a good crime drama. Goodness, it's even way better than a tv show! Honestly, this one is for the keeper shelf and to get read again. Well done!

A well-paced and plotted book with an intense race against time to catch bank robbers turned murderers. I definitely recommend reading this series in order because there are story elements started in the first book that aren't concluded there and this book doesn't have as much character growth as the first one did (since we already know who they are and what motivates them). This allows us to dive headfirst into the race to find the bad guys and to already be comfortable with our lead Marshals.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story as well as the very slight and guarded bits of romance the two are beginning to show for each other.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

The second book in the US Marshals series is fast paced and hits the floor running.
We engage with many of the same characters as we met in the first book so we are familiar with them making for a very easy to follow but exciting story line.
This is only my second read by this author after reading the first in the series the 2020 release, The Escape. It was action packed and I really enjoyed it and was looking forward to this one and I was not disappointed.
Well done, one for the read again shelf. I am looking forward to the next one by this author in this captivating series.

One thing I’ve noticed about Lisa Harris’ books is that she includes red herrings into her plots. “Is this break-in connected to this case the main characters are working on, or a different case from the past, or could it just be random?” It’s an odd note, but I’ve enjoyed that because it has me questioning with the main characters and trying to figure out how it’s connected.

I thought this was a really interesting suspense premise and I liked how the “romance” of this “romantic suspense” book wasn’t heavy. This is more due to the reason that it’s a trilogy about Madison and Jonas, and therefore, is slower in that regard. But, regardless, I like the slower pace then them falling in love with each other within 300 or so pages. I was quite satisfied by the ending and am very much looking forward to reading the last book in the series next April.

3.5 star!

The Chase was a suspenseful guessing-game read that was full of exciting plot twists and main characters that continued to grow in their personal walks.

I liked the plot for the fugitives on book two better than I liked the storyline for the fugitive in book one but I also found that book one had more fast-paced moments. The Chase had more heart-to-heart conversations and the partners did a lot of checking in with each other to see how they were doing. I loved continuing their story (and even the side storyline with Madison's family!)

One thing that kind of bothered me was the fact that the book took place over a very short time span. I'm pretty sure it was 3 days. The first day of Madison getting back to her job after recovering from the cliffhanger of book 1, lasted throughout the first half of the book. One day. And so much happened...

Jonas Quinn. He's a pretty solid guy and one that is supposed to be well qualified for the job. Yet somehow he gets himself in situations where being the hero doesn't really work out for him. At least he was able to be the "superhero" once (which was pretty heroic!) As much as he was a good character, with a backstory more so in this book, the book series has a main focus on Madison. And the true mystery is solving her husbands murder.

Madison James. I really like her character. She's funny here and there and she doesn't let her guard down even if she's got a lot going on. She's not perfect though, and the readers get glimpses into a more vulnerable character. She's also quick on her feet and the two US Marshals make a great team because they each think for themselves. She wasn't afraid to voice her opinions even if they differed from his (and vise versa). Madison is also a nice one to have around if you ever crave pancakes while deserted on a island! XD

The bank robbery plot was done well but I would have liked to see more of a "wow" ending for that particular plot line. However, like the first book, the cat-and-mouse chase that took up most of the book ends more abruptly than you'd think and the real mystery is Luke's death.

Overall, this book gave me more and more clues for the "big" mystery and I can't wait to read book 3 in this series when it releases next year!

Lisa Harris is my go-to author when I'm in the mood for fast-paced action and a slow-burn romance!

After finishing The Escape, I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next with Madison and Jonas. The Chase (US Marshals Book #2) picks up their story three months later as Madison is preparing to return to regular duty. Of course, a normal day in the office wouldn't make for good fiction so Harris plunges her dynamic duo into another big case involving bank robbers. The sense of urgency conveyed in her writing made me feel like I was blasting through the book at breakneck speed. My only reprieve (chance to catch my breath) came when Madison and Jonas would share a private moment. As the story progressed, their shared moments grew in depth and intimacy making me eager for the final installment of the series. Will they have their happily ever after or will the person(s) hunting Madison prevent that from happening?

The Chase is the second of the US Marshals series set in Seattle and is another edge of the seat page turner. In the first book, US Marshal Madison James and US Marshal Jonas Quinn became partners and had a wild time with an escaped convict in the western US after a plane crash. There was a little bit of a cliffhanger in the last story but it picks back up in this one. Now, they are sent to investigate a string of bank robberies around Seattle after a fingerprint hit came back of a suspect they are looking for on another case. They find that they are looking for a team of four people and have followed them to Pikes Market where the fugitives split up into two groups of two. These people are one step ahead with well laid plans and back up plans. But Madison and Jonas are determined to find them as well as is their boss and others, especially since innocent people have been killed. Madison and Jonas work well together and both have some emotional baggage to work through but there is also a hint that there could be more. Once more, Lisa Harris has written a story that is engaging and full of action to the end and yet has secondary stories of the characters to give them a well rounded, normal and realistic life. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

“Run the race that the Good Lord set out for you to run”

In this second book of the series, U S Marshal partners, Madison and Jonas are on the trail of four fugitives from a bank robbery gone wrong. What a way to start the first day back from an injury for Madison James.
The culprits manage to keep one step ahead of the Marshals in a desperate cat and mouse game and nail biting chase.
The author gives us another glimpse into the relationship between Madison and Jonas that started in The Escape. They are their for each other every step of the way. But could this turn into something more?
The excitement ramps up as they figure out where the fugitives are, but they are not sure all the clues are related to the present case. Could someone still be after Madison as she tries to uncover clues to her husband’s murder five years ago?
As one story concludes, we will have to wait for other answers to be revealed in the third book of the series.
Well plotted and thrilling, this book is a great story to get absorbed in.

I have been waiting to read the second installment in the US Marshals series, The Chase and it did not disappoint for me. I have always liked Lisa Harris's writing but I cannot say enough good about this series. I will be sad when it ends, I have enjoyed both these books so much. This is the kind of suspense I like a lot, the kind that the minute you open the book it launches you right into the middle of it. Then it continues, but it isn't forced, all the turns and twists are plausible in a fiction world that you are in the middle of.

The relationship between Jonas and Madison is slowly evolving into something more than just friendship, and their attraction is finding a more solid grounding as they continue working together. I like this kind of romantic notion that is slow, moving forward, and subtly hinted at until both parties are ready to deal with what is happening between the two of them. It doesn't just happen out of nowhere there is a real depth to what is happening, but it's not the focus.

I can't say enough good about this second installment, sometimes I find the second book in a series that it's a letdown sometimes but The Chase was probably as good, if not better. I look forward to The Catch. 4.5 stars

A high speed chase is underway as Madison and Jonas pursue bank robbers who live like they have nothing to loose.

Madison having just recovering from a gunshot wound hits the ground running as she and her partner Jonas pursue the culprits behind a string of bank robberies in Seattle. This is a fast moving read with a lot going on, and even though it follows the same characters from the previous book, I don't think that readers who pick up just this book would find themselves lost.

Madison and Jonas are a great team, sharing their faith and difficult pasts I like how their friendship has grown and they can count on each other when it all goes down. I liked how it continues to follow some of the story threads from the first book, leaving some questions unanswered for the next book-- which I will definitely be reading.

Overall this is a dynamic read with excellent characters, a fantastic slow burn romance, and a fast paced, action packed, high stakes chase that occurs over a handful of days. I didn't want to put it down, and I think that I even liked it a little better than the first book, which was fantastic! Highly recommend this excellent read by one of my go to favorite authors!

The Chase is the second book in the US Marshal series by Lisa Harris and I enjoyed this one even more than the first book! Since this book is about the same main characters from The Escape, I was already familiar with them and it was great to continue their journey.

I liked the suspense in The Chase…it was an intense story with twists that made the pages fly by. The ending was a good cliffhanger and makes me eager to read the final book as soon as I can.

All in all, The Chase was a great read and I recommend it to fans of romantic suspense.

This is the second book in the series and I didn't read the first not knowing it continued from book one. If I had realized that, I would have read book one for better frame of reference on the characters.
The suspense thread is standalone because it's a new case but I felt like the romance picked up from book one and may even carry into book 3. For that reason, I'd recommend you read the series in order.
All in all, I liked it. The suspense was great and kept me invested to see how it goes.

This second US Marshals book is just as high-octane a read as the first one! Edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting perfection, with a little left undone to tease readers for the grand finale to come in book three. So -- what you need to know about The Chase before diving in:

Yes, it's the second book in a series that has an over-arcing secondary suspense thread that isn't resolved yet BUT it also has a main suspense plot that does find resolution by the end. And the author does a great job of catching readers up on the pertinent details from The Escape though reading this book will spoil the first book's cliffhanger ending for you, so just keep that in mind if you choose to read them out of order.

Madison and Jonas are on another hair-raising pursuit and I love the way Harris includes interesting procedural details along with the gasp-out-loud action moments. Adds so much to the intrigue of the chase.

I also love the slow-burn romance that isn't going to come to fruition until the final book in the series. They are friends and co-workers nudging their way closer towards a deeper relation and I'm on tenterhooks waiting for the Hallelujah moment!

I'm not sure how I'm going to survive until April 2022 when The Catch release! (And don't you just love the terse action titles for this series...escape...chase...catch. Deliciously edgy.)

There was no chance to catch my breath while I was reading "The Chase" by Lisa Harris!

I fell in love with Harris' US Marshals series when I read "The Escape" and fell in love with Madison's and Jonas' story and seeing US Marshals since I've read so many suspense books with other agencies and not so many with about the Marshals.

One of the plot lines is quite like one of my favorite mystery movies which makes me adore this book even more. There were things that I wished didn't happen and I also was really sad at some of the twists but this book left me eager for the next one!

I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This book has a good mix of suspense, action, excitement, faith, romance, and reality. It picks up at a comfortable pace from book one and after a slow first chapter, the whole book is full of page-turning excitement that starts with a bank robbery gone wrong.

The faith content comes up at just a few points, but what is discussed about trusting God is spot-on.

The romance simmers a little more in this book from book one, but once again, it is not an intense, heated romance. Rather, two friends who grow closer to each other.

This is more of an adventure to follow along and see how it unfolds rather than solve-the-mystery-yourself, but I still enjoyed it.

Once again, the blurb tells you plenty--it's much better if the book is full of surprises along the way. I liked this one better than the first (more like a 3.8 instead of a 3.3 rounded up). There is a lot of action and movement in this book, but the story itself is quite different than in The Escape--the only commonality are Madison and Jonas who are partners. The romantic sub-plot that plays over the trilogy continues, but don't expect any action yet, even by Christian novel standards.

Other than the lack of graphic descriptions of violence, sex scenes and strong language, this is very much a thriller.

Zipped right through this one without stopping because it was that good. Great suspense! The theme of fear getting in the way of letting yourself feel or become vulnerable was done well. Several times there were passages about God/trials/etc. that just leaped off the page and seemed to be written exactly for me, which was a complete bonus to this already immersive reading experience. Now on to book #3!

The Chase by Lisa Harris is just like the title suggests. A chase. A chase to find the bank robbers. Through the city. Through hotels. Through back alleys. The plot definitely moves every second. While readers may think they know how the story ends, Harris throws another wrench in the plans and have the heroine and hero on the chase again. The plot was well-written and wonderful for fans who enjoy tons of action in their storylines. On the other hand, the romance is hinted at and even flirted with, but nothing comes out of the budding emotions currently. (There is a third book coming!) I actually enjoy this element of the novel. Too many suspense or contemporary romance, for that part, the romance occurs way too quickly. Then the rest of the story centers around the romance and the suspense takes a back seat. When I read a suspense novel, I want the suspense, not the romance. It can be there, but I do not want it to be the main story thread. On a different note, Harris' writing is excellent. Readers will feel the chase and the frustration of not catching them again and again. Overall, The Chase by Lisa Harris is a fast-paced, little romance story that is right up my alley. I believe fans of suspense will enjoy this novel. I sure did.

I missed reading the first in this US Marshals series, The Escape; but reading book #2, The Chase, is a good stand alone book. It is however, one of those somewhat unique series where each book leaves a cliff hanger ending that ties it to the next. In this case .....small spoiler alert..... the sweet, slow romance, doesn't have a happily ever after ending but a "maybe someday" ending.

But the meat of the book isn't just a gently building relationship that might someday lead to a romance. No, it is a chase that is packed with fast paced action and the rounding up of bank robbers, murderers, and blackmailers.

A plot that thickens as the chase ensures.

Set in the Pacific Northwest in the Seattle area, the reader gets cloying glimpses of the magnificent views of mountains and ocean. Makes one long for a road trip to the area.

A good clean book laced with Christian morals.

This action-packed novel kept me glued to my seat and took me for a ride!

Madison and Jonas are back in the second installment of the US Marshals series. I didn't read the first book, and while I always recommend reading a series in order, you could read this as a stand-alone...but I think you might have better context for some of what Madison is dealing with if you read the first book.

There has been a series of bank robberies and Madison and Jonas have been provided with the identity of someone that might have been involved. What ensues is a chase (haha see what I did there?!) against the clock and the perpetrators to catch them before more people are harmed or they get away and are not brought to justice for their crimes.

I loved the fast pace of this novel taking me across Seattle and over to the San Juan Islands. I wasn't sure what to expect next and enjoyed how the mystery unfolded. I was quite surprised by a few twists with the robbers and this author knows how to keep you on edge wondering what could possibly happen next.

There is a bit of romance between Madison and Jonas, or at least the possibility of trying a relationship to see if anything might come of it. I also appreciated the inspirational discussions and putting their faith in a higher power and letting things happen as they might. These discussions were also good for Jonas considering what happened with an old girlfriend and believing that all things happen for a reason. I think it also gave him some closure once he took some time to mentally process what happened.

There is also the case of who killed Madison's husband? This has created a mental block for Madison but we see some glimpses of what might have happened but we will have to wait for the next book (or books) to learn the truth.

This is a series that I will be looking forward to and watching the relationship between Madison and Jonas expand and what case could come their way next. We give it 5 paws up.

This book is the second in the US Marshals Series and I am happy to now say that I have read books 1 and 2.

The title of the book is so accurate. Throughout the book, there was a big chase for the culprits of the crime that was committed.

US Marshal Madison James is recovering from someone shooting her in her home. I can't imagine anything worse. How would you feel safe again? She has a partner by the name of Jonas Quinn that helps her recover. They form a strong bond.

When Madison comes back to work, things begin to spiral out of control. There was a bank robbery and a security guard is mortally wounded. The hunt begins. These crooks plan a lot of heists and love the adrenaline thrill of "getting away" with a crime.

We also find out that Madison's husband was killed in the parking lot after one of his shifts at the hospital five years ago. Madison has tried to find his killer and also whoever was responsible for shooting her. It is a shame that both of these mysteries have not been solved. Madison is wondering if the two crimes are connected.

Jonas is falling in love with Madison. Madison is afraid that she will put her partner in danger if she lets herself fall in love with Jonas.

I was a bit disappointed in the ending of this story, but all in all, I thought the author did an excellent job with all the action, suspense, and romance in this book. Because of all that was involved, I finished this book very quickly. because it really held my interest.

The Chase by Lisa Harris is the second book in her US Marshals series. U.S. Marshal Madison James is ready to get back out in the field after having been shot three months ago. Her partner, Jonas Quinn, wants her to ease back into work. When they respond to a bank robbery, things begin to escalate. Now they’re on the hunt for the fugitives who seem to be always one step ahead. The chase takes you from Seattle to the San Juan Islands. I enjoyed the way Madison and Jonas worked together; always on the same page. The romance was there, but in the background and not overwhelming the suspense of the story. Another great book from Ms. Harris

I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

"Local law enforcement is asking the public for help in identifying two suspects - one male and one female - in connection with a recent rash of bank robberies across the state. Another bank was robbed today, leading to a string of events that left two people dead and a chase - "

Federal Marshalls Madison James and Jonas Quinn entered a chase the minute they walked into the bank on the corner of Hillside and Chapel Road; posing as emergency medical technicians they attempted to surreptitiously defuse a very dangerous hostage situation. Instead, they were caught in the crosshairs between four criminals who had turned desperately dangerous. It certainly wasn't how Madison had planned to begin her first day back on the job after recovering from a gunshot wound, but backing down wasn't an option for either of them . . . let the chase begin.

This accelerated suspense begins and ends on very high notes, but personally I wanted the story to dig a little deeper into the psyches of Madison and Jonas through personal conversations rather than internal musings, as they tip-toe around their growing affection for one another. Both are struggling with questions that don't have easy answers. Both have suffered great loss. Both carry a reoccurring burden of guilt. Fortunately, they both have a relationship with the One whose desire is that they "trust Him through the journey, even when it doesn't make sense".

In other words, the author has set up her readers to highly anticipate the next chapter in their story. And it's guaranteed to be a good one!
