What happens when your darkest nightmares become reality?

Maya Murphy is a normal 16-year-old girl with an average, boring life. Or so she thinks. When Maya’s mom suddenly ships her off to a mysterious boarding school, she quickly realizes that Deep Cove Academy is not what it seems....

After learning that she is part of a secret underwater world, Maya’s existence is turned upside down as she struggles to find her true destiny. When Maya’s night terrors reveal evil lurking beneath the surface at Deep Cove, she teams up with the only other student who can help the devastatingly gorgeous but infuriating Reef Fenner. A boy she is magnetically drawn to. A boy she would follow anywhere. A boy whose green eyes are straight out of the depths of her nightmares.

The Destiny is the first book in the Deep Cove Academy series, a YA fantasy world full of fast-paced adventure, mythological mysteries, and heart-wrenching first love.

Maya Murphy has had a repeating nightmare for the past two months since she turned 16. She is underwater, can’t breathe, and a sunken ship’s mast breaks off and falls on her, knocking her unconscious. But right before the blackness, she sees the greenest eyes she has ever seen. Then she wakes in a cold sweat in the dark of night. She gets out of bed, no sleep is possible now, and rakes her fingers through her hair. She feels a burning behind her ear, yet it doesn’t hurt. There’s a slit in her skin, but it isn’t bleeding. Strange. By morning, her mom and stepdad start arguing again, as they have since summer. When her mom sees the “cut” behind her ear, she tells Maya they need to talk. She has never met or spoken to her biological father, but he has arranged to send her to boarding school, Deep Cove Academy, which was part of the custody agreement. There is something they are not telling her, and she needs answers!

A man meets her at the airport arrivals, collecting the new students to drive them to the docks. What does that mean? She meets Casey Rodriguez who also finds this creepy. But when the “boat” comes to get them, it is a small, dilapidated thing that does not look at all sea-worthy! It makes her think of her nightmare! The 12 students climb on board, expecting the glue holding it together will dissolve and they’ll sink under the waves! As the trip progresses, Maya hears a melody, as do the others next to her, and everything blurs as all their anxiety and panic fades. But then Maya's nightmare starts again… and she wakes up, choking on saltwater! She continues to struggle until she slips into blackness.

Maya wakes up to arguing. A voice accused another of not guiding her through the trial, but the other says she did and the girl is an anomaly! She opens her eyes and Matron Dixon is sitting beside her. Professor Nerida sat down and, every time Maya tried to tell her how she drowned, she got a terrible headache. When she mentioned the necklace she saw, Nerida inhaled sharply! She was told to not tell anyone what she saw or Nerida could not protect her? What was going on here? Is there some secret the students don’t know? Are they in danger?

Finding out she is part of an underwater world, Maya struggles to find her destiny. Her night terrors continue and reveal evil lurking in the water's depths. Only one other student can help her now -- gorgeous and infuriating Reef Fenner, a boy she is drawn to and would follow anywhere, even though his haunting green eyes are exactly what she sees in her nightmares!

Wow, this is an action-packed story that will pull the reader in as it races through the story line. The mystery and suspense is ever-present because the reader is not sure what is going on either! Grab your copy and find out why Maya is special and what her destiny will mean to the world!

*Spoilers*
This story is about a young woman who is sent away from the only family she has ever known into a boarding school far away because of what was agreed upon in court on a piece of paper signed years ago. It is about a woman who has spent her life wondering why she is different and why she suffers from terrible nightmares finding her true self and purpose in life. Her life is changed completely by this piece of paper decided by a man she’s never met. It is about finding where you belong, the true meaning of friendship, and what love really is through the eyes of a lost young woman. This book is hard to put down and will keep you wanting to know what will happen next! Madison Becker has done a great job of keeping her readers in suspense and I look forward to reading more of her work!!

Clean and unique ya romance

The heroine is different than many other types of heriones. She's rather reluctant to speak what she's thinking. At first I wasn't so sure about this. Just ask questions out loud already! But it occurred to me a shy sixteen year old girl would act quietly and with some trepidation. She's not a weak, just quiet. I also love that the romance is clean and sweet and the story is compelling original. The ending was solid and satisfying yet left plenty of room for a sequel. Diffently recommend.

Magical!

Though this is a YA book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were likeable, and the whole mystery surrounding Maya & Reef was a slow intrigue yet immensely satisfying. I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. I hope there will be more books in this storyline, because I feel that the main character Maya has more to her than meets the eye, besides the whole merfolk deal.

I liked the premise of the story and chose to read this book based on it. The characters were interesting and the storyline was intriguing. As the story progressed, I was quickly captured by the drama of her life and the choices that were made for her. It was a well written story that was entertaining to read.

I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.

I liked the characters none of them were overly annoying and I liked how there was more than 1 relationship.Overall I would 100% recomment this for a quick read
