- I enjoyed the wholesome Summers-Grey family dynamics here. Love how Marvel made Jean the leader of the mission and the Summers boys just follow her instructions no questions asked. No fragile egos getting in the way. Awesome.
- Love seeing Jean astrally projecting herself through the cross-dimentional portal. The panels were beautifully rendered and colored!
- Still unsure what Saturnyne is aiming for here but I sense two beneficial outcomes of this mission: a) The SWORD station powered down before their final distress signal was successfully transmitted. Now that the Krakoans know something nasty is brewing there, and they have the documentation to prove it, at least we can be on the alert and keep an eye on the station. b) I'm gonna call it first! Jean and Scott got inspired from her successful astral projection through the cross-dimensional portal at the SWORD station and they're gonna use this trick to keep Cerebro backed up correctly during the Otherworld tournament. Et voilà! That's how we troubleshoot the resurrection problem ;)
A fun, creepy, and a bit heartwarming adventure for the summer family. I love how Scott and Jean actually feel like parents. The ending was lolstastic.
I'm more pleased with this issue of Cable than I had been with previous issues. The best part was watching Cable, Cyclops, and Jean fight together as a family unit. And while no one specifically used the word "love," it was implied, and it was reassuring to watch Cyclops walking around next to Jean and complimenting her, while she in turn saved his life. A breath of fresh air for those of us who have been waiting around for Scott and Jean to get back together since the early 2000s.
That being said, nothing TOO amazing happened. The fight scene was a little short. There were no major dramatic reveals about the state of Scott and Jean's marriage. (Yes, I know, they have both died since they got married, but at least don't try to act like the marriage never happened.)
It's a Summers family outing as Scott, Jean and Nate hang out on the abandoned SWORD space station and battle what appears to be some sort of otherworldly virus in the form of people in black rubber suits.
There's some lovely dialogue here, as we get to see Scott and Jean alone(ish) together for the first time in a while, and also Scott and Nate get some nice bonding scenes in which Scott gets to be the overprotective dad.
And...there's not a whole lot more, really. It's unclear whether what's going on with SWORD is actually relevant to X of Swords beyond, you know, the sword thing...or if their is essentially set up for the upcoming Sword series. There's also some telepathic scheming going on between Scott, Jean and Magik, which is definitely relevant to X of Swords, and I'm sure we'll find out exactly what they're planning a little further down the line.
The art is, of course, stunning, because it's Phil Noto and Phil Noto's artwork is always stunning.
Definitely the most interesting and well done Cable issue so far. The S.W.O.R.D. station is off line so instead of finding out why the Summers-fam turns the power on and almost destroy their entire reality by letting loose kill-bots. Magik and Cyclops are still brewing a plan. And Cyclops is treating Cable like a boy instead of a battle-hardened warrior. I think 8ts because Cable calls him dad now. The creepy survivor on S.W.O.R.D with the head scar was cool and Jean was great to read. I've been missing her since she bowed out of X-Force.
5th champion reveled. We definitely have to dive into those that devastated SWORD. But Scott what are you planning? And I hope it works. Family dynamic was pretty good too. Krakoa is finally a place where relationships and bonds can flourish properly.
