One of the joys I have publishing Deep Magic is the variety of talent that comes through our inbox. We typically recruit only one story per issue from a well-known author (Susan Ee in this issue, with her darkly fantastic 'Shadow City' which was just perfect for this time of year), but most of the slots we keep open for wonderful authors who find us. One of my favorites was "The Devil Went Down to the Daniel Webster Charter School PTA's Annual Halloween Chili Cook-off Fundraiser" by Eric James Stone where the title of the story is almost as long as the short story itself (just kidding) but it made us all chuckle. Another ghost story which delighted us was "The Proper Feudal Spirit" by Paul R Hardy. It had quite a twist and fun flair. I'll end by mentioning Wulf Moon's "Muzik Man" -- I think that story itself might end up being nominated for an award for this year. Anyway, give our current issue a read.

Always looking forward to Deep Magic issues

I mark the change of seasons with the arrival of a new Deep Magic issue. I look forward to reading those wonderful, clean stories and meeting new authors and story tellers. This issue was less exiciting than the ones before, not sure why the stories in this issue touched my imagination a lot less. Wishing for more stories to get through Fall.

To the Stars
I appreciate every volume of Deep Magic because it takes my imagination for a ride every time. This time the book excerpts sent me to Amazon to find out how to order, so thank you. I can always count on you to take me away to places and times I would never see.

This collection had very solid stories with one standout for me. I really liked The Devil Went Down to the Daniel Webster Charter School PTA's Annual Halloween Chili Cook-off Fundraiser by Eric James Stone and The Proper Feudal Spirit by Paul R. Hardy, but my favourite story was Shadow City by Susan EE. It was so good and I need more. Muzik Man by Wulf Moon wasn't my favourite, and I don't like bugs so I only skimmed Ethnoentomology by James Van Pelt. As for the two novel excerpts, they were both interesting but I don't honestly know if I would ever pick them up. I would recommend this for the first three stories, which were excellent.
