A man stares into the ocean, sightless and dead. Another soon realizes the past is never past...
LAPD Detective Harriet “Harri” Harper has finally been transferred into Robbery-Homicide Division like she’d always wanted. Unfortunately, the transfer happens just as she is about to go to Berlin with former Special Agent Jake Tepesky to track down her sister’s killer. Sending Jake to Berlin, Harri joins the new task force on a high-profile case.
A wealthy man is found dead in Malibu, his eyes missing and the crime scene disturbingly clean. The case turns into a pressure-cooker when a big-time talent agent is found dead in the same way and their main suspect goes on the lam.
Can Harri and her new partner, Detective Tom Bards, find him before he kills again?
The Night Blinder is the fourth Detective Harri Harper crime thriller, and perfect for fans of Michael Connelly, Gregg Olsen, and James Patterson.
This was book 4 of the series. There wasn't too much tie in with the lead on her sister's murderer in this one but this was a twisty thriller about the past coming back to haunt some super rich frat "brothers" who struck out to make their mark together after college. This has been a nice little series so far.
So TRAGIC that most modern authors have such a Very Limited Vocabulary! They - for some unknown reason - abuse words that belong only to GOD viz. HOLY, JESUS, GOD, CHRIST. In this context, they also use horrific oxymorons. This is blasphemy and Will be severely punished in due course. Believe it!
Harri has finally been assigned to Robbery Homicide. She and her new partner, Tom, start their partnership off with a bang when a man is brutally mutilated and murdered. He's found zip tied to a chair in his multimillion dollar mansion in Beverly Hills. They find that he had embezzled 45 million dollars from his elite clients - movie stars, directors, producers, and old money billionaires. Was that the reason he was murdered and in such a viciously brutal way? Soon, one of their rich suspects is murdered in a similar fashion. Are Harri and Tom heading in the wrong direction? Are they wrong about the killer's motive? All of these victims and suspects had been fraternity buddies back in college. They'd all headed to Hollywood around the same time. They all lived close by each other. They partied together. All had money. Some were just rich. A couple were rich enough that they felt they were untouchable. I was so caught up in trying to find out what was really going on that I hated to put the book down until I finished it. I think the moral of the story is that money and power don't necessarily make for a better person. It sure didn't here.
I highly recommend this book to crime fiction fans
As a frequent crime fiction reader, I enjoyed this well-written police procedural with believable protagonists and secondary characters. I especially like Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD) detectives Harriet “Harri” Harper and Tom Bards, because they’re strong personalities but without OTT domestic/personal issues—and they don’t make stupid, life-threatening decisions.
Although this is my first read of this series, author Dominika Best included enough backstory to fill any gaps. The serial killer storyline is at once horrific but more believable than most, because the suspects are well-developed. The judicious use of multiple POVs includes that of a prime suspect, who adds information and background that RHD detectives have yet to uncover. Unlike some crime fiction authors, Ms. Best cunningly places the culprit in the storyline. There are no annoying obfuscations, tertiary cutout culprits, or a last minute pop-up villain.
Kudos to Dominika Best. I’ll certainly seek out your books.
Recovering from the attempt on her life, at the end of the previous installment in this Harri Harper series... The detective finds herself thrown head first into a gruesome crime scene right out of a horror book. Being paired up with Detective Tom being the only bright point of it all.
A group of fraternity brothers are being targetted.. Is the killer among them or someone else out to get them.. This book had a few good twists and an action packed end as I have come to expect with a Harri Harper book.
This book could have had five stars. However, it lost stars from me because of the unacceptable, and unnecessary, use of blasphemy; the poor use of English grammar; the fact that one question was never answered (what actually did happen in that "frat house" all those years before?); and that it proved to be, not one in a series, but one episode in a serial. I keep asking why authors, and publishers, don't seem to know, or understand, the difference between these two genres! It's not rocket science!
Dominika Best does it again, creating suspense and plot twists yet again.
Det. Harri Harper and Det. Tom Bards are called to a horrific murder scene with some strange aspects. Thus begins a week of grisly murders of three friends who were classmates and frat brothers at Cornell with two others, one of whom is being subtly framed for the murders. Who is murdering these young men, and why? Who will be next? The ending will surprise you!
I’ve never read any of this authors work, but it reads well as a standalone.
Harriet Harper, known as Hari, finally gets to RHD, and her first day in, gets a gruesome call of a murder with the victims eyes gouged out. But this is LA, and everybody is rich, or famous or both, which puts that much more pressure on LAPD to catch the person doing this.
I wasn't sure how this series would continue after Detective Harper located the body of her missing sister. This is a chilling serial psycho killer novel and really scared the heck out of me. The story was well written , the plot complex and the end was perfect after the build up of the potential killer. Looking forward to the next in this series.
LAPD Harriet Harper & Tom are on investigating gruesome murders of Wealth Managers whose clientele are Hollywood Celebrities. Eyes scooped out, caged in a dog cage, cutting, etc is the modus operandi of the killer. The investigation leads no clues. How do Harri & Tom bring the killer to justice? Read this thriller to know.
This woman author has come up with some really scary books in this series! They are meticulously crafted. For your sake, I highly advise you to begin at the beginning, because of the crazy way that they are set up. I can't stop reading these books! Now I have to wait for the next one, since it isn't out yet!
Captivating story about revenge for a long past humiliation against the frat boys who are still together and don't realise who is killing them off. Only one of them is bright enough to see what is happening and Harri has to shoot him to save him. Good story plot and a lesson to rich frat boys not to haze psychos.
I LIKED THE STORYLINE BUT I WOULDN'T CALL IT A THRILLER, A MURDER MYSTERY OR MAYBE A POLICE PROCEDURAL. IT TOOK ALOT TO SOLVE THIS CASE AND MADE ME WONDER HOW ANY CASES EVER GETS SOLVED. IT TAKES SO MANY HOURS AND MANPOWER SEARCHING, INTERVIEWING OF EVERY LITTLE PIECE OF EVIDENCE NOT ONCE BUT SEVERAL TIMES. 'D
I received a copy free from BOOKBUD and this is my voluntary honest review. Well crafted , grusome crime story with a complex, well developed plot! A thrilling, fabolous series with strong characters that holds your attention, making you hold your breath while reading. Wow, a action packed, suspenseful, captivating story that takes you on a wild rollercoaster ride. Read and enjoy!
This was a fast paced book with so many twists and turns and wondering who done it book. The suspense was intense and had my heart racing as the pages flew by. It finally came full circle to events of the past that caught up with some of the circle of friends. I love these characters and how well they blend together. It’s been an amazing series so far.
This is a very good thriller. I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out. I could not put this book down. Great thriller. I highly recommend this book and series.
Another really intriguing adventure in the Harri Harper series. It's a five star story, with some poor editing during some occasional confusion. Definitely worth reading, even without the previous books in the series.
A well-crafted story. Frat brothers keep getting murdered and eyes removed while they are alive. Why? You are lead on a journey with many twists. The ending is satisfying. A real page turner.
I’ve enjoyed all the Harri stories and this one is the best so far. The unexpected twists and turns keep it fresh and the ending had me holding my breath! Highly recommended.
The Night Blinder was exciting with twists and turns. Never knowing who the killer was till the last few chapters. I have enjoyed all the Harriet Harper books. Next is book 5 The Skin Hunters. I highly recommend this series.
Sensationally bizarre. Never would have guessed what happened or what was going to happen next. Weird in an obscene way. Extremely well presented and totally misleading plot base.
This time Harri and crew are just by-standers. The killer is always one step a head and gaining ground. One of the targets takes the lead and solves the case for them instead!
A gruesome crime, and Harri hasn’t recovered from her previous one. This sets up another case, and now Harri is in her dream place. Fast paced and action packed, it was great!
I really like the storytelling and because of that I am going to finish the series. But there are a lot of mistakes that should have been caught before these books were published.
Night Blinder stands on its own but I am really enjoying the series. Harri, Jake & Tom are engaging central characters and it is easy to get attached to their stories.
Mrs Best is a great author. She knows how to keep us glued to the book until the last word. I'm in love with Tom and Harry .if you like a good thriller read this book
