Jaden Quartz receives a phone call to say that her mother is dead through “some kind of accident”! She hadn’t spoken to her in years because she hadn’t approved of her marriage to Stanley and Jaden left. Jaden had tried to keep in touch, but her mother texted her, nasty and mean, asking her to not contact her, so she stopped trying. The attorney who called her said they would clean out and sell the cabin in the mountains, no need to come to town. But Stanley had died only a few months earlier, and she had been living in a short-term vacation rental until she decided what to do next. Having her mother’s cabin available solved that problem. And she was curious about her mother, so she could get some answers as she cleaned up. The attorney made it clear she didn’t need her to come down, but Jaden told her to leave everything alone and she would be there by tomorrow.

Jaden stopped at an Inn in Which Village for some sleep before she picked up the keys to the cabin. The Inn owners knew her mother but were reluctant to answer questions since they figured she would settle the estate and then leave. Maybe she wouldn’t. The lights were already on in her cabin – must be on a timer? She looked at the waterfall shower and huge tub. This looked like a “small” cabin and yet the bathroom was huge!

Jaden went to the attorney to pick up the keys. Eliza Warthog gave her the Will to read and left the room. Jaden heard a voice that repeated each thing she said aloud… and realized the plants were talking to her. When Eliza came back, the plants were silent. But if Jaden asked about hearing them, the attorney might have her committed, so she remained silent.

Jaden finally gets to see where her mother lived in a two-story cottage at the end of a quiet street. And she loved the place! It was obvious her mom had loved it too. Before she went inside, she called Eliza because once again, she forgot to ask exactly what kind of “accident” killed her mom. The attorney said she would stop by since she knew Jaden would not stop asking that question. Jaden opened the door and a cat screeched and raced out! Now Jaden is on a mission to learn about her mother, her life and her secrets. What was her mother hiding? What are the secrets she will uncover?

This was a very intriguing start to this new series. The reader is slowly given the information to build up this strange world Jaden is entering. It was a very effective way to build up the goosebumps on the arms factor and draw the reader in. We realize everyone else is aware of the “situation” while Jaden is still unaware. The story is well written, the characters effectively presented so the reader can see their personalities and “read” the underlying message of the words they say. Well done! I am eagerly looking forward to continuing this series.

A Hex a Day. Why wouldn’t you want to give this book a try. Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down. Never a dull moment!
“All I knew was that whatever was about to happen was going to change everything I knew about magic. Forever.”
Jaden’s story is incredible and will keep you on the edge of your seat. This poor girl loses her husband and soon thereafter, her mother. Just like any “normal” family, Jaden and her mother had their issues, but they still loved each other very much. Jaden hadn’t seen or spoken to her mother in years and decides to try and get to know her mother while going through the estate. This is when things really get wonky. Jaden arrives in Which Village and immediately recognizes that things are a bit different. The homes are a bit different, the people are a bit different, the evening is a bit different. As she is told her mother’s killer is still out there, she finds that her mother isn’t who she thought she was and that she was dabbling in things that others didn’t like. This is where my favorite twist comes in! I never saw it coming and was speechless. The more answers she gets, the more chaotic things get.
“Life truly was a journey, and sometimes the only way through the fire was straight through.”
Pure craziness at times. However, like a true heroin, she is able to solve one mystery, but I still have so many questions. Because of this, I can’t wait to dive into the next book in this series. I have questions and I demand answers!! LOL! A must read!

Jaden and her mother have been estranged for years, now she lost to the chance to see her. Jaden goes to where her mother lived, Which Village. Jaden has some strange occurrences when she gets there. Jaden finally gets to see where her mother lived. Jaden has to learn about her mother, life and her secrets. Jaden will learn about what her mother was hiding, about her deceased husband and what she is as well

This was an good start to series. Dealing with a daughter that has to process her mother's death after being estranged. Finding out her mother's secrets and how they pertain to her as well. Look forward to reading the next book to see where it goes.

Jaden loses two people close to her in a very short time. Her husband Stanley and her mother, Alicia, are suddenly gone. Being she is totally unsettled after the death of her husband, she goes to Which Village to have a place to settle down and to learn about her mother, who she had not talked to since she left to get married. She finds so much more than she bargained for in this small town. It is a paranormal town, with everyone knowing your business or making judgements. Twists and surprises show up as she searches the house and cabin for answers about her family heritage and what really happened. Stress comes from finding out her mom was a witch and she will be as well when she turns 35. The ending is a prelude into the next book, with a new question to solve.

A Hex A Day (Which Village Book 1) is a very entertaining read. LC Mortimer created relatable characters and an easy-to-follow story-line that has a touch of reality mixed with the supernatural. It is a supernatural mystery story about a woman, Jaden, who finds out after her mother's death that her mother was a witch, and she will become one as well. Shortly before her mother died, her husband Stanley died. Poor Jaden is dealing with grief. She is also trying to find out who killed her mother and figure out what is going on in the strange town she lived in. The name of the town, Which Village, or is that Witch Village, is a clue. Along with the mystery, there is some humor and delightful and quirky characters that keep you engaged. A Hex A Day is an awesome start to this series.

Our heroine is informed of her mother's passing, but when she goes to settle the estate, she raises more questions than answers. Just what was going on in her mother's life and what does that mean to her?

This is book one of a new series. Start here.

This is a paranormal mystery, but not of the cozy type. The story is very well written and easy to read, with a complex plot and setting, both of which are gradually revealed throughout the story. The characters are well done and definitely helped to give the story a mysterious, and somewhat foreboding, air. I enjoyed watching our heroine try to piece together the puzzle of her mother's life, but it was not an easy task. Overall, a very effective start to a series and I look forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Highly recommended.

Which Village or Witch Village? Jaden had been estranged from her mom for years. When she married Stanley, her mom thought she should stay single, but Jaden and Stanley traveled the world together. Now Stanley has been dead for months and Jaden gets a call that her mom is dead. She goes to the town where her mom moved to but the little village is strange. She quickly learns it is a town of supernaturals, that her mom was witch, and that she will become one in a few weeks when she turns 35. Now her goal is to find out who murdered her mom, but she learns something so surprising that she can’t hardly believe it. Now the past six months might have been a lie and she needs to figure out the mystery. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

Appealing to those who like shorter reads with fast pace and cozy vibes. Good plot and exciting mysteries.

Unfortunately, I found it somewhat disappointing. Although I usually prefer fast-paced stories, this one felt too rushed. The book lacked depth, detail, and environmental descriptions, leaving much to be desired in terms of background information.

The heavy reliance on dialogue was off-putting, and the characters were not well-developed, making it hard to connect with them. Despite these issues, the book had a cozy and somewhat thrilling atmosphere. It might appeal to those who enjoy shorter reads.

Overall, I give it 2 out of 5 stars and do not plan to continue with the series.

As soon as I start reading this book, I got pulled in. The more I read, the more I got Hooked. Yes it is a cosy mystery but I felt as if I was part of it! I felt her pain over losing someone, I could so identify with her! The weird but awesome Town! I loved it! I am trying not to give anything away while reviewing this book but I cannot wait for the second book to come out cause this author has the ability to bring characters alive and pull the readers with her into her books! I recommend this Book to everyone!

A short but engaging read. To be estranged from a parent and thinking it was because they disapproved of your life choices, only to realize too late that they were trying to protect their child. Then the realization that with their passing so does their protection, the final loss of innocence is the realization that there is no one to help you.

This is a short read. I felt it was written good, but hopefully before it is published it has a good edit. We have Jaden who has lost her husband and now gets a call that her mother has passed away. When she gets to the Which Village, things are not what they seem. She is confused and yet wants her magic. Can she figure out what happen to her mother? Can she figure out who to trust?

I enjoyed this story even though it started out on a sad note. There was just a bit of a mystery as to how Jadens mom died. The story was amusing and the characters fun to read. It did a great job of introducing the town and inhabitants. The ending was fun and set up the series so that I want to read the next book to see what else happens and if Jadens hunt is successful. Just a quick light hearted read I enjoyed.
