Despite the cover and the title, this book is dark and comes with content warnings for child abuse. I very nearly stopped reading a few times, although ultimately stuck it out, possibly because I was reading it serialized chapter-by-chapter on the English publisher's website. If you like darker fantasy, this may work for you, but just be aware that when they say "fairy tale" they in no way mean Disney or any other purveyor of sanitized folklore.
This was a very good read once you sit down and read it, it starts off slow in my opinion but it quickly picks up speed and does not stop.
Azreil and Rhenma's story is told in past and present POV and the more that you get of the past the more that the present makes sense. I would say the second half of the book is the best.
The characters in this were fantastic and I really hope that in the next book we get more information on Rhenma and his past. I think he was the most interesting part of this because we know close to nothing about him but I have a lot of thoughts about him and I'm looking forward to the answers!
Azriel is a sweet girl and I hope that at the end she gets to live peacefully, she does truly deserve all the good things Rhenma tries to give her.
