Was mildly impressed by most of the stories that were supposed to be “inspirational.”
Learning how to use a hammer or picking up a dead rat aren’t inspirational, they’re normal parts of life. If this is supposed to empower women then that’s sad. We should be speaking to women as if they’re already capable of these things, not applauding them because they’ve just learned how. We’re better than this.
Granted, I understand that I might not be the target market for this book because it seems like the audience is middle-aged moms and empty nesters. I’m probably just experiencing the generational gap, because my generation is entirely capable of normal life and really only needs motivation to sit at the head of the table instead of just filling in the sides.
I can see how a generation from an earlier time might be inspired by this book because the times were definitely different and faced severe sexism when they were starting adulthood.
