My mom had a bad habit. And that bad habit was men. They're like her own personal form of crack and she never wastes anytime getting through her stash.
I don't know if it's intentional, but she smokes them up and bleeds them dry until there is nothing left. Each and every one of them. Then she'll move onto her next victim... making sure she drags me along for the ride too.
Only this time she's made the wrong move and now I'm forced to live with the Devil himself.
My new stepbrother hates me.
He's not shy in showing me how much he detests me either.
I never thought I'd wish for my mom to hurry up and bleed her new guy dry, but right now that day can't come soon enough.
Olivia's mother has found her next victim, a wealthy man. And so they move, again. New city, new school and no friends - same old story.
Because of this lifestyle, Olivia's timid and shy ,she just wants to blend in. Which is imposibble! On the very first day she meets him - the school king - Kane. He's an asshole, in his position he kind of has to be. He has a girlfriend, a cheating one. But he doesn't even care. Olivia's all the he can think of. The rawness and vulnerability surrounding her intrigues him. She's affected by him just the same.
On the day Olivia finally meets her mother's now toy, she also meets his soon. The school ruler, the boy that haunts her on the school grounds, is also her stepbrother.
This was sexy, angsty and with tons of drama. I can not wait for Envious Bully!
I am not impressed with the book. The main characters are dull with no personality. The female Olivia is weak. I do not understand her personality and Kane is the bad boy with anger issues. The entire story has many gaps. First, the synopsis defines Olivia and Kane as stepsister-brother while their parents are not even married. The storyline does not even introduce how the two parents meet and decided to live together. The book starts with Olivia's mother suddenly decided to move away from her town to live with Kane’s father. The internal dialogue is so long and boring that overshadows the story and chemistry between Olivia and Kane. The author writes nonsense, unnecessary wordy paragraphs, and repetitive sentences and facts. The author does not depict a clear understanding of the plot in the storyline but delivers wordy chapters without saying anything. The book needs grammar correction and editing. I do not care for the second book installment.
Olivia is trying to survive another school and district change because her mother goes through men like her underwear, and as a result Olivia is always moving around and never settles in. On her first day of school Kane is her mentor and this is where things take a turn. She is captured his attention and Kane has claimed her as his, BUT little do they know that they are step-siblings. Kane has his own issues from a cheating ex and his nemesis coming back to his school.
I really enjoyed this story! It was a short and quick read. It found it intriguing and I can't wait for the next book! This book is written in a duel POV and i love it when books are written like this. I really enjoyed the two storylines within this book, it kept me very curous and invested in what was going to happen next. However, i felt like all the characters were a bit shallow, so I'm hoping that in the next book there will be more character development. I also found Kane and Olivia's inner monologue's a bit boring because there was a lot of repetition in how they felt about their parents meeting someone new.
I'm honestly so excited to see how this story unfolds. I really want to know about Kane and his dad's history.
*A guy like him was built and designed to shatter hearts and destroy souls.*
The main reason I knocked a star off was the several beginning chapters of Kane and Olivia just continuously complaining about their parents. It got repetitive but other than that... Kane is the bad boy self made God of the school whos set his sights on the new girl. There's definitely alot of deceit going on in the background that we as the reader dont know about yet. Towards the end it felt like I was leading up an explosion and boy did Harmony blow the roof off on that major cliffhanger! Olivia being dragged around from home to home because of her moms inability to settle with a man has grown tiring but this home may be the one to top them all. I do look forward to more on these two and what Kane has in store for Olivia.
Olivia is trying to survive her Mom's addiction while being bounced around from school to school and city to city. She is shy and just wants to be the wallflower that no one notices. But she is noticed by the school's bad boy and self made god of the school, Kane, he is ruthless and devious and has set his sights on the new girl Olivia. This book will have you chomping at the bit wanting to find out what happens next with these two and that cliffhanger ending...OMG...I need more of these two and can't wait to see what twist and turns Harmony Grey takes us on in the second book in this series. This was an absolutely sexy and angsty read and I can't wait to see how everything unfolds in Envious Bully!
This books feels more like a really long prequel novella than a full book. It’s a sloooooooow burning with no burn.. the main characters don’t meet until like 70% or something in the book, and that’s kinda disappointing. I have more hope for the second book. 🤷🏼♀️
I’ve never given a book so low of a review. It’s very rare I can’t finish a book. I skipped the majority of pages in this book. There’s little dialogue, the story never moves forward. Everything is nonsense thoughts in their heads. I counted pages at one point. There was finally a short sentence, then 4 pages of what’s in her head, before another short sentence, then head speech again. I made it to 50% & still nothing happened. They rode in a car, spent the night in a new house with NO detail, then went to a new school….. & the entirety of what I read had been pretty much only resentful thoughts towards the parents from the kids. They really just drone on & on. The idea of the book has potential, but in the end this book is incredibly boring & has no “substance”. It could, but the endless repetitive nonsense you read pretty much takes away from the whole book. After halfway through I skipped to the end. No surprise to me that what I was waiting to happen (them being introduced at the house) what I thought would happen near the beginning, happened at the end.
1.5- The Kane parts weren't done well for writing from the male perspective. In addition there were many sections where characters repeated or dragged out conversations unnecessarily in a way that slowed any narrative (although there wasn't much of one).
A lot of starts of ideas were thrown out there, but not enough was done with them to evensay they ended on a cliffhanger (it just never started all the way). This felt more like a section of a read than a thing on it's own, but it seems like it's meant as the start of a series. This made attitudes come across as random, immature and forced than offering backstory. (Kane and his father, Rodriguez, and anything with Bailey)
I just thought it all felt disjointed, nothing connected and the things that were redundant just expanded sections that should have been over with faster to move along the narrative. Like Ryder and Kane's conversation about Taylor. It put too much weight on his relationship with her, but at the same time the author wanted to point out she really wasn't special to him. It didn't work and was conflicting.
Also, there were a lot of typos. S and d interchanged a bit, which I do while texting, but wouldn't have expected seeing in something even self-published. Not as bad as others though.
I really want to support new indie authors, but this one wasn't it for me. The same inner dialogues, from both characters, where they telling us the issues they have with their parents, were repeated over and over again. Also, nothing really happened.
The MC's met around 50% then, for many chapters of more inner dialogues about the same issues, they met a second time and then only at the end of the book where it ended on a cliffhanger. 😩
Maybe, the book could've been written as one? I don't know about the other book after this one and if there are repeatedly inner monologues as here. Maybe the second book is better written. I don't know.
This book, although I love forbidden stepsibling romance and was looking forward to, wasn't it for me.
An exciting read into how close the emotions of revenge, hate and love really are. For Olivia and Kane this is a tug of war. A war of wills. A war of control and for Kane war waged against his father, his enemies and the girls he can’t seem to get out from under his skin. The power that pours from the pages of this sexy and exciting book is palpable. The characters suck you into their lives and circumstances bringing to life their situation and circumstances and the results of their actions. We are left in a cliffer.. yeah I kept looking for more pages lol. So to say that I can not wait for the next book is an understatement. This is the first book that I have read by Harmony Grey is will most undoubtedly not be my last.
First book to be read by the author Harmony Grey. I'm not sure what to make of this, in the synopsis its stating that her stepbrother Kane is a bully and he despises her. Her is Olivia. First off their( her mon, his dad) parents are not married. They are living together, and they were not even aware of their parents dating each other literally until like 95% into the book. Majority of the book is about Kane and his former friend turned enemy and ex girlfriend. The few moments between Kane and Olivia are nice and intenas but not alot of them because it's being overshadowed. I'm debating on reading the second book, however I do want to see how it ends, so we will see.
Olivia is trying to survive her Mom's addiction while being bounced around from school to school and city to city. She is shy and just wants to be the wallflower that no one notices. It was OK? Bought for free on stuff your kindle day
The best part of this book was maybe the last 3-4 chapters. And those 3-4 chapters should have happened maybe a 3rd into the book.
The rest of it was just repetition after repetition to the point I'm sure I read the exact same paragraph twice.
The speech punctuation changed half way through to.
Am I going to read on, yes because I think the series as a whole could be good, but I do think the book is in need of some editing and maybe merged with book two? Although I did like where the book ended, just not enough really happened, not a great deal of character building and not a great deal of action.
This is book one of Kane and Olivia's story, so be prepared for a cliffhanger ending. Olivia's mom has a habit of bouncing from one man to another only caring about what she can get out of them. Olivia has been dragged from one place to another and her mom just made them move again, only this time it seems her mom found someone who also has a kid. Kane is a bitter teenage guy who thinks he is God's gift to women and he rules his school. He has set his sights on the new girl, Olivia and when he finds out she's his new stepsister that just makes him want to break her more!
All in all this was a good story. There were a couple editing issues but nothing that made the book off putting or anything. The plot line was refreshing and has me intrigued enough that I pre ordered the next book. I think the only criticism that I feel compelled to relay is that over 60% of the story focuses on the inner monologue about how each of the MC's are passed off with their parents. It's redundant and almost had me not sure I wanted to finish the book. The last 20% was where the dynamics of the characters started to appear.
This book... The MMC is just INFURIATING! Like why is he such an idiot to her? Why does he use her as an outlet? How does that even make sense? The entire book, the FMC is all OMG he's soooo hot and I wanna kiss him but then it's like He's my stepbrother can't do that but then he's like no i'm gonna make your like hell and she's like I don't got no response. In short... It's 246 pages of annoying things that can be told in two sentences.
Love, Ishya P.S. This is review #79. I only have 21 more reviews to go and only one day. Wish me luck!
This was almost a DNF for me. The first 80% of the book was a LOT of repetitive internal monologue. We get it- you hate your parents and they suck. That was literally all that happened, with quite a few mistakes and inconsistencies sprinkled throughout. The last 15% or so of the book was muchhh better, but not good enough for me to continue through 7 books. First 80% of book I’d give a 1 star. The last 15% or so, I’d give 4 stars. I want to know the big, dark secret hinted with Kane’s dad and the reason for the falling out….
So the plot seems good but heck ok so the tittle is devious bully but there is like no bullying so far there are a few catty comment but that's it. Like I said plot seems good but like 95% or more of this book is monologue from Kane and liv's head there a part where Kane asked his friend Ryder "he really said that" and you have no idea what was said for him to ask that. Because all you read is what he was thinking when his friend was talking to him
I am new to this author, and I love where this series is going. Olivia and kane are both full of anger and hurt, so im interested to watch them grow. Im enjoying the side characters too. This book is not action packed, but it gets us familiar with the characters and their pasts, hopefully building up towards more drama. Will be reading book 2 to see where they take us.
I don’t know what I was doing continuing with this book, I should have DNFed. I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over. The characters were dull and lacked personality. I also didn’t realise when I started it was a slow burn, which I normally avoid but this felt super slow even for a slow burn! Not for me at all.
The story line is pretty good but there a lot of repetitive essays at the beginning of the book that takes up a lot of space making it feel more like filler. If not for that I think the story could have gotten further than it does. I'm glad for the second book but it seems like it could have been one book with how much filler there is.
I picked this up during a stuff your Kindle day. I love bully romances but this just isn’t it. The writing is atrocious. Definitely gives middle school Watt pad. Nothing happens. It’s just 200 pages of set up. Give me a 400 page book full story. The worst part is it looks like it’s more than 2 parts. I want to see how it ends but not at the expense of my time.
This one is perfect for highschool bully romance lovers..Olivia's character is written beautifully and elegantly..A shy timid girl who knows her mother is bad and she struggles to hide herself from the people who get affected by it..it was an interesting story and can't wait to read the next book!!
Book has 235 pages, at 94 pages it's been pulled so thin that the book has not yet started. I've seen few errors so far. But just feel the story is stretched and 94 pages the same thing has been repeat.
I was seriously wondering how it would play out when they figured out that their parents were together!! I am excited to see what happens next but a little apprehensive cause Livy has been through a lot and I can only imagine what the one thing is that really shook her!!
I like the reading this book it was enjoyable. I just feel that much more could have happened In terms of the story instead of splitting it into another book
The writing was cringe worthy with confusing words and lots of self dialogues. There was lacked of characters development and storyline executions. Passed on this one.
