In 2070, a tide of supernatural disasters struck the Earth, twisting the world into an era of technology, myth and magic. War erupted in the dwindling embers between the remaining inhabitants of Earth and the forces of a new fantastical realm — Aurorea. There were no winners. The year is 2082. After an undercover investigation goes wrong, Corporate Investigator Kujo Schultze is tasked with finding a missing fantastical creature. Forced to work with an Aurorean knight, Kujo races against the clock to punch in another missing creature case. But this is Shinkenpai, a metropolis of neon and haze trapped between two worlds, where nothing is as it seems. Looming in the city’s shadow is a conspiracy on a level neither world has ever seen, and in a time where monsters openly walk among men, there’s always somewhere darker to fall.
A really engaging sci-fi cop thriller that I didn't want to put down.
I love the worldbuilding and the way the author describes the environment. There was plenty of action and lots of twists to keep the story interesting. One of my favorite elements is the dynamic between Kujo and Fhreila, they share some wonderful character moments. Seeing them work (and not work) together in this world is really great.
