I have often wondered how the Amish version of mail order brides might work...this book was downright comical in the responses of both the prospective bride and groom upon meeting for the first time at a meal provided by her uncle and aunt. They just happened to be the next door neighbors of the widowed man with five boisterous children under the age of nine who was not in the market for a bride. The prospective couple, after speaking separately with said matchmaking aunt and uncle, realized they had been set up and that they could be friends, as neither was interested in the marriage mart at the present time. He was a tired, harrassed father, and she felt that her father and step-mother must have wanted her out of their home. Being friends worked well for them. She got a job supporting herself at the local veterinarian's office, and began to feel at home in the new community. Life was good..... Loved this book. Ms Miller has a real gift for making down to earth characters come to life. Her descriptive words made me almost hear the water rushing under the covered bridge and the exhausted puppy left at the vet's offices whimpering. Thanks for another great goodread. it was almost as sweet as THE CHRISTMAS SWITCH!
I had just finished another Thanksgiving story by this author called MAMM’S THANKSGIVING PLAN, in which it seemed like the premise of a prearranged marriage by family members was the same. The story did end up being different, but after reading the other one, I felt like it wasn’t entirely original. Also, there were at least two spots I saw where the children were called by different names than what they were for the rest of the book—bad editing. Still, I do kind of like the author, so I still rated it pretty high. I have purchased more of her books and look forward to reading them.
Ms Miller has written a really enjoyable book about a woman whose engagement was broken, and there was no one that interested her in her area. She receives a letter from distant relatives requesting she come stay with them and that she marries the widower who lives next door to them. Of course the relatives never discuss their plans with the widower so it starts off very awkwardly but it ends happily ever after!
This story was so sweet. I found myself saying “you go Mary” you be yourself and move on with your life. I hope there is a sequel to the story as I would love to read it. Well done! Thoroughly enjoyed reading this in one sitting. Just wanted to read one more chapter and then another... obviously couldn’t put it down.
I really enjoyed this book. The Thanksgiving time was a good time for all of the characters and the storyline. It felt like I was there in the story with them.I would definitely recommend this as a good holiday read.
This is a wonderful story. I knew the ending that Mary and Micah would marry. However, the journey was delightful with five children to make it enjoyable. A little bit too short my liking but longer than many Amish ones.
This book is so easy to get into, to fashion the character in your mind and to see happiness and love form between each person involved! Great book to snuggle down in your best reading chair with a hot cup of tea.
