Female Merchant pays Goblin Slayer and his party a visit at their usual tavern with a proposal: Her next trade route will take her through the vast eastern desert where goblins now run rampant, and she would like the party to escort her. They accept her request, and the group promptly sets out for the arid eastern borderlands with its different cultures, brutal traps, and shadowy desert figures. How will our heroes fare in this unforgiving foreign territory...?
I'm always pleasantly surprised by how well this shows character growth. Goblin Slayer trying to come to terms with being his party's leader is right up there with Priestess' self-realization.
I felt like this one was very weak compared to the others; perhaps it was the translation, but events and overall motivations seemed hard to follow. The references to in the previous novel were a great touch, but just seemed to split the focus, here.
Goblins appear in the far-off country of sand to the east and naturally Goblin Slayer and his companions go to slay them.
The best thing about following the series through eleven volumes now is seeing the characters develop and mature. Although they are still constrained by their setting and its tropes, Goblin Slayer and Priestess especially have clarified and understood their own roles in the party much more; this is especially clear in this volume as Goblin Slayer accepts his role as party leader and Priestess understands she wants to be an adventurer.
Reading this series, it’s becoming more apparent that this is a slice-of-life character-driven story that happens to involve copious amounts of goblin slaying. And I’m alright with that. On to volume 12!
The author once again delivered an enjoyable book, full of action and wonderful characters. Priestess keep growing and leveling up and is really nice to see her growth through this serie. The author does a great job describing this world and introducing gaming terms in the story. I really enjoy reading this volume.
Once again a fun romp with Goblin Slayer and the group of adventurers. This time they're in the desert. Lots of Star Wars references. Some subtle, some NOT subtle at all.
Goblin Slayer party heads to another country into a somewhat 'Arabian Nights' adventure! Well, it's just yet another goblin hunt as well as another bodyguarding job but this time, it was with Female Merchant aka the former Noble Fencer.
While at first glance it seemed that the adventure in this volume seemed less 'exciting' compared to the previous installment, it was indeed more of the kind of adventure which High Elf Archer would've preferred more compared the usual goblin-slaying quest that they end up taking. And I have to agree that there was quite an amount of wonder inside this adventure as Priestess arrived to yet another new environment that also had a magical air to it.
That aside, I was also intrigued at the more mentions of the side story featuring the rogue group that was initially introduced in the last book. While this time there wasn't much mention of anything about the Hero's side of the story, at least we get to see more of the rogues. As well as a hint of Gobslay's life prior to officially becoming an adventure.
