What a soul weary book to read. It punches away at all the pent up feelings of living w a pornography addict. It forces you to face reality. To admit something is wrong. The thoughts that go round and round. The sexual hangups you feel are real. Maybe even the abuse that goes on behind closed doors... To shake out the dust bunnies and acknowledge face to face all the raw emotional pain and everything that goes with it. It leaves you with a deep sore and guides you one step at a time out of the hellish reality around you. Remember you can do this with God's faithful helper His Holy Spirit.
I’ve been looking for a book like this for a long time to share with wives who are struggling through their husband’s sexual sin. This book checked the boxes for me and avoided some of the more common pitfalls on this topic. It reads like a conversation with a good friend or therapist and has journaling/thinking activities at the end of each chapter.
This book is amazing. I will definitely be reading it again in the near future. It provides tons of examples, reflection questions, tools, and practical advice on how to cope with / overcome marital dilemmas caused by various lust issues. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who is searching for answers, guidance, or ways to be able to work through those things.
This is a hard read for anyone entering or going through the pain of betrayal, but it does offer hope and insight. It's nice to have the input from a male and female counselor here, the steps are well defined and there are resources available. I will recommend it.
A solid big picture resource. I’m not sure about the effectiveness/safety of the confrontation model presented in this volume. Most women will need a more focused smaller step resource, particularly in her early recovery. This one does do a good job of leaving the reader with a message of hope.
Reading as a counselor, this book reviews the foundational steps for restoration in a marriage. She does an excellent job laying out a step by step plan. For those dealing with additional complicated grief or effects of trauma, I highly recommend Intimate Deception by Dr Sherri Keffer.
This book has brought a lot of healing to me regarding my husband’s addiction. It has given me a perspective I never would have gotten; a grace and love I wouldn’t have developed without the grace, love, and guidance of Christ. Through this book, I learned different ways to cope and heal. As well, other ways in which to start conversations with my husband about my feelings and the issue at hand.
