Brigette O'Hare - photographer and graphic designer by day, burlesque performer by night - is in New Orleans to dance with a local burlesque troupe. Touring the city, she has an incredibly sensual encounter in a voodoo shop with the mysterious Henri Dauphine.
Henri defines everything Bridgette doesn't trust she deserves: wildly sexy, old money, his own man, and crazy about her.
She can't wrap her mind around why he wants more than a weekend fling while he's trying to figure out how to get to her to stay in New Orleans with him - forever.
Henri won't give up on the only woman he's ever loved and Bridgette finally realizes he's the man who colors her life with everlasting happiness.
Kitty Bardot juggles a life full of excitement and love. By day she's a chef of her own catering company, by night she puts 10 years of burlesque experience to use in various venues around the Quad Cities. She writes from her country home not far from the Mississippi River, enjoying every moment with her husband and three children. Burlesque River is the first in a series inspired by her life on and off the stage. She's currently working on book three, Burlesque Baby. Due out May
Brigette has been invited to NOLA with her burlesque group. While there, she meets a gorgeous man named Henri. He's immediately taken with her, but she holds part of herself back. Why? Will she ever give herself fully to Henri? Or will she allow her fears and insecurities to keep her from experiencing true love with Henri?
The setting is gorgeous, Henri is beautiful, and the burlesque is entertaining. The story itself is fun. Unfortunately, I could not connect with Brigette, she was too fearful, and allowed it to overwhelm her personality. And, and this is my biggest gripe, I hated the third person POV. Sometimes I can read in this POV and not let it bother me. Here, though, it reinforced my disconnect with Brigette and hampered me enjoying what I can tell could have been a great story, could I have connected more with it.
Burlesque on bourbon by kitty Bardot I was very fortunate and excited to have received this arc for review . I was not sure what to expect as this is book 2 In a series yet can be read as a stand alone . I couldn’t put this book down . I did not read the first installment in the series but will definitely be going back to read it . This is the story of Bridgette a beautiful Burlesque Dancer and Henri Dauphine.this is a romantic story between 2 people who have undeniable chemistry. Do not miss the wonderful book 📚📚📚📚📚
Bridgette is a burlesque dancer from Chicago invited to New Orleans to dance with other burlesque dancers she meet in a Facebook group. Along for the ride is Amanda, affectionately known as Bunny. After dropping their luggage at the hotel, they decide to wander the shops before heading to meet their new friend, Lillian. Meanwhile, Henri had finally convinced his songwriter/singer artist friend, Joe, to record a demo. More than excited with the results, Henri drops the demo off. From the beginning, the reader has the impression that Henri is very shallow. He is a known playboy picking up women and discarding them just as quick. He comes from a different world than Bridgette tossing money around without a thought to how others see him. Even so, Bridgette sees there is more depth to Henri than a pretty face so she throws caution to the wind and takes a chance to get to know him better.
The more Bridgette and Henri are together, readers can see Henri's mask slipping. It is difficult for Henri because he has never known a woman such as Bridgette. The more time they spend together and the more comfortable they are, secrets are bound to unravel in the most spectacular fashion. With Bardot at the wheel, her descriptions heighten the senses while the characters leap off the page wanting to tell their full, complete story.
I received this book as an advance review copy free. I have read and reviewed this book voluntarily.
I really would give this a 3.5 stars. It’s not a 4 but definitely not a 3. Let me explain... The book itself and the storyline is good. The characters are alluring. They are fun! The setting is amazing! New Orleans is an amazing place!! It’s one place that is really live to visit after this covid business! I really have trouble with the third person omniscient point of view. It’s the one I have the most difficulty. A story can really turn me off if it’s written in this point of view like it did in this book. Going back and forth through the characters this way is a bit messy. The author here did it right but still. The story of a woman going back to the place that was magical for her when she was young with her grandparents and coming back as an adult and seeing it differently has a certain beauty to it. We remember things so differently when we are children. And experiencing it again later in life is amazing. This book just got me wanting to go to NOLA and following this adorable couple around. Henri was a bit of a goof trying to impress the girl and coming off all wrong and Bridgette’s character was so stuck in her parents old ways it was deforming all the beauty of this man she is falling for! Changing the POV and making it one point or dual point would change the story for the better for sure!
4.5 star review Burlesque on Bourbon (Burlesque River #2)by Kitty Bardot New Orleans is a place I have always wanted to visit and one day I will. I was intrigued by the blurb for this book when I rad it and eagerly volunteered to read and review. Kitty Bardot is a new author to me so that was an added bonus. From the moment burlesque performer Bridgette O'Hare and Henri Dauphine meet they have a connection. However they are not on the same page when it comes to relationships, Henry wants forever and Bridgette, because of her past, cannot trust that what he is saying is true. Can Henri convince her to trust him and take a leap of faith that he will catch her ? The chemistry between them is scorching and I loved them together. Henri is totally swoon worthy and Bridgette deserves a man who loves her like he does. This is a witty, romantic, steamy story that was entertaining and I felt as though I was witnessing their relationship as it grew and that added to my enjoyment of the story. Ms. Bardot wrote a story that drew me in and kept me invested with her characters right from the start.
While on a trip to NOLA, graphic designer/photographer & burlesque dancer, Bridgette meets the mysterious Henri. They barely know each other, and they’re from very different worlds, but they have an instant connection that makes them think this could be more than a fling. ••• A quick easy read, but I wasn't a huge fan of the MCs. Bridgett regularly picked fights with Henri. He was not the best with words and could put his foot in his mouth, but she would often twist his words, willfully misunderstanding him and and taking offense. Henri is sweet but a little boring & a little clueless when it comes to women or non-wealthy people. He doesn’t really have a job or any direction, and admittedly just spends his parents money.
The sex scene dialogue was a little awkward for me - "lapping her sweet juices" or "her rippling breasts" - I'd typically just skim those.
However, there was such lovely imagery when it came to NOLA. I felt like I could see & hear the streets and smell & taste the food of the French Quarter. (And I’m a sucker for a mutt. Loved Henri's pup, Bones. 🐾) ••• ARC provided by Grey's Promotions
This story had me falling in love with the characters and the magic of New Orleans. Some reviews have called out the third person writing in this but I disagree completely, Kitty Bardot did a beautiful job articulated the story and differences in these characters emotions and personalities. Henri is absolutely swoon worthy, the way she describes him is wonderfully done. The thing I love about Kittys writing is how real her characters feel. I found myself falling in love with Henri, while seeing so much of myself in Bridgette. 5 star rating, can not wait for more from this up and coming Author.
The beautiful Brigette O'Hare is in New Orleans, she's a Burlesque Dancer and happens to be sightseeing when she runs into the good-looking Henri Dauphine. This is a sizzling romantic story between two people who have undeniable chemistry. They both also have a past that has left them with damages that are difficult to overcome. I really liked the book, I couldn't figure out how it would end. Kept me on the edge guessing.
This is a love story between three people, Bridgette, Henri and New Orleans. Kitty Bardot paints a picture with her words that transports you to this magical place of good food, hot music and voodoo.
Bridgette and Henri are fractured souls that find a way to heal through each other. This is a story that’s filled with visuals and I’m here for it.
This story has everything a good story needs, and maybe a little extra 😉
Kitty Bardot knows how to tell a story. In fact, my breath is still labored from reading her tale. Set in New Orleans, you can feel the sweltering heat emanate from page one. The chemistry from the two leads is so electric—at first teasing, then voracious—it is reminiscent of the delicious 1981 film Body Heat.
And can the lady write. Here’s a taste:
“She bites at his bottom lip and leads him by this open shirt away from the door, stepping back heading them toward the bed. As he bumps it, she looks up with a start. A wicked smile spreads across her face as she eases up one knee then the other.”
You might have noted the novel is written in present tense, which accommodates an immediate, visceral sensation as the reader flies through the chapters. Everything is heightened: the burlesque routines, the scent and sounds of Bourbon Street, and the unbridled sex that still has my blood moving.
But hold on. Not everything is magic. Although the male lead is captivating—with his southern charm and devilish good looks—he holds a secret that could end an affair that is too hot to handle but, then again, too tempting to release.
Bridgette and her friend, Bunny, are exploring New Orleans before a burlesque show, when they run into Henri, a handsome man with a past he would rather keep hidden. Henri is immediately bewitched by Bridgette and the feeling is mutual; however, Henri tends to say the wrong thing leaving him wondering if things will really work out.
Burlesque on Bourbon is a steamy romance that leaves the reader wanting more. Bardot did an excellent job following up her Burlesque River debut and I loved that she brought Bunny and Mike back into the story. While this can be read as a stand alone, you will definitely want to know how those two got together.
Bridgette O'Hare travels to New Orleans to dance in a local burlesque show and to visit the city she has fond memories of touring with her grandparents as a child, her only constants in a childhood with a mother who ran from bad men to worse, leaving Bridgette with a fear of abandonment and the feeling of never quite being good enough for someone like rich, sexy, too good to be true Henri Dauphine. They share an instant connection and steamy sex, but Henri is hiding his own secret shame. Can they both overcome their pasts and make a future together? Burlesque on Bourbon is an easy, enjoyable read. A love story not just between Bridgette and Henri, but with the city of New Orleans as well.
I received this book by the author in return for an honest review, all thoughts are my own.
I really enjoyed this story, loved the whole setting and felt like I was walking down Bourbon street with them.
Henri was such a sweetheart who literally would do anything for Brigette, unfortunately she has a horrible past and thinks she is being bought, she just can't accept he might just want to help her.
This is definitely slow burn, if you like that kind of book then this is definitely a book you will love.
An Exciting Tale “Burlesque on Burbon” is a sensually enticing tale that you will want to read nonstop from start to finish. The excitement, chemistry, and intensity explode off the pages and keep you enrapt in Brigette’s adventure with Henri. The characters are authentic, realistic and perfectly matched in this tale. I highly recommend this tale. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
This was a nice read. I was entertained throughout. It was probably not a book I would go back and read again but I liked it. I liked the characters well enough but Bridgette was a bit eager to judge and Henri at times a bit too arrogant. But all in all I enjoyed it.
I fell into this book, and finished it within 24 hours. What a wonderful story that happens to also be very steamy! The characters and story are very well developed. I look forward to reading more of Kitty Bardot's work!
