Gartner released the 9 top tech trends for 2021 last week. It included trends like Distributed cloud, Anywhere Operations, Cyber Security mesh etc. The article headline was 'Gartner predicts Hyper automation will dominate business markets in 2021' (searchable on Google). Hyper automation and Intelligent automation are synonymous. If you are want to know more and looking for a good book (written in simple language but filled with loads of end to end knowledge on this space), read the book written by Pascal !

"Intelligent Automation" the book by Pascal Bornet was launched early October. The book has stayed as the Top seller in Robotics & Automation on Amazon for last 3 weeks.

The book has 4 sections:

1 - How can IA enable creation of a better world in business, improving customer experience, avoiding frauds and saving lines
2 - Facets of IA technology and how each component contributes value. They are categorized across four main capabilities: Vision, Execution, Language, Thinking/Learning.
3 - How to implement IA in businesses including the challenges, preparing the transformation and the new enablers for IA
4 - How can society be reinvented with IA including both optimistic (IA will create more jobs) and pessimistic (IA will lead to job losses unlike the industrial revolutions of the past) scenarios

Specifically the sections on what should organizations do to succeed in Intelligent automation is useful which included challenges in implementation, top down support required, preparing for transformation and driving change.

I also enjoyed reading the emerging enablers in IA for business - Democratization of IA Enabler (citizen automation), Convergence of technologies, IA generated by IA Enabler (unsupervised learning to enable incremental automation enabled by automation) and symbiosis of people and IA (Elon Musk will love this section !).

I also attended a session hosted by Pascal last week on YouTube which 5 of us attended – found it really interesting.

Highly recommended read if you want to get ready for Industrial revolution 4.0, irrespective of whatever your current profession is and also to understand how IA will enable us to achieve a higher societal purpose.

Ah. Perfect!

This book covers pretty much everything related to IA.

The authors emphasise on how the world is rapidly automating 'Knowledge Work', making it beneficial for both the companies and their clients. The so-called 'Fourth Industrial Revolution' has already started and this year's COVID crisis has been nothing but a catalyst in the process.

I liked how alongside presenting an optimistic perspective on the context, they also added a whole chapter on how things might go south with this automation, turning into a disaster, if we don't consider every aspect of the changes that IA will bring with its initiation.

Введение в интеллектуальную автоматизацию труда. С ее помощью можно избавить людей именно от той работы, которая меньше всего нравится - монотонной, неинтересной. Намечены основные направления, но очень общими словами, так что практичеким пособием книгу не назвать

For nerdy types (like me), INTELLIGENT AUTOMATION is a thoughtful validation of what many of us already know; hyperconnectivity and automation are rapidly maturing technology applications - the ship has sailed, and it is not returning to port. For less nerdy leaders, INTELLIGENT AUTOMATION: Learn how to harness Artificial Intelligence to boost business & make our world more human
Pascal Bornet and his co-authors provide (what should be) a Holy Shit wake-up call to action and well-crafted guidance for all companies to (quickly consider.

If you are wondering how IA may impact you?

The authors cut to the chase by offering, "Simply put, IA is the white-collar version of the blue-collar industrial automation, which started in the 19th century. For example, IA is used to support and augment the tasks performed by lawyers, financial controllers, or call center agents."

I think the authors are too optimistic in the advent of IA resulting in a better world. I'm inclined to agree with Yuval Harari's prediction of “the rise of the useless class” as a result with similar sentiments echoed by those like Andrew Yang and Kai-Fu Lee. Nevertheless, the book does layout a reasonable approach to achieve its aims.

Some useful content but possibly one-off the worst written books I have read. Disorganized, no order to topics, disparate premises.

Having heard alot about automation, with limited knowledge on the subject I was eager to cosume this book. To begin with, the subject matter seemed quite dry and listing to the audio version removed my access to the diagrams suggested to view in relation to varying notions. However, I stuck with it and slowly managed to sift through, gaining a deeper understanding.

I was surprised to hear Elon Musk's name so far towards the end of the book, and with no reference to Telsa? Almost all of what I know or have witness within Automation is to do with that company...perhaps again, a biased lack of broader involvements.

Anyway, a great insight to show that the future of automation is not all doom and gloom. We may infact be able to develop ourselves, contribute to the world and have more fun!

Intelligent Automation (IA) combines Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with Artificial Intelligence (AI). While RPA can perform repetitive processes through bots, IA integrates AI with RPA to execute tasks with human-like reasoning. This book explores the impact IA may have on society. In the past, humans have successfully navigated industrial revolutions using their intelligence. But this revolution is poised to replace that very intelligence. What does the future hold? The book seeks to answer this question by examining concepts such as Universal Basic Income and post-work ideologies. It is a thought-provoking read for anyone interested in how rapidly the world is changing and how we might adapt to those changes.

Worth reading until the last chapter and then stop. Great explanation around the possibilities of intelligent automation.

I thought the new enablers (democratization, convergence, IA created by AI/IA, people and tech and preparing for the long-term was my take away. Work does not have to be hard, stressful, boring or all consuming. A solid five day, forty hour job for a market wage is what we should want. It is clear IA can make this possible for many of us.

Anyone starting an automation journey will benefit from the first three parts. I strongly recommend you read them.

Outstanding book on every possible level, the most important thing is that this book is covering automation with a managerial perspective, it doesn’t goes deep into details and give you a really big picture on this concept. For me as a future engineer this is a must read to know about the tech industry.
Thank you pascal bornet ❤️

This book gives a vision about future world where Intelligent Automation will prevail; not as a choice but the way to thrive and succeed for companies and countries. I am a big picture person. I loved reading this book. The book filled me with hope and optimism. I felt proud of the trade and competence I am in.

I have found the book as a very useful collection of AI at work. The landscape is changing by the month but it really pays off to step back and try to understand the art of the possible in this area. From repetitive work to smell and senses, from speech recognition to deep fake. A good resource for business leaders and solution architects.

Dobré intro do daných tém. Veľa zaujímavých faktov a konkrétných použití. Niekedy mi to ale pripomínalo čítanie vysokoškolských skrípt (nie v dobrom) :)

I bought the book because I saw it passing by on Twitter frequently and many people recommending it.
Regarding the content: it's about IA, IA, IA and IA. And it only starts from page 38.
The author tries to explain and solve every problem in the world with IA: save the world (literally), end world hunger (yup), no more car accidents, ...

The problem is that the book goes too broad. It tries to sum up everything and solve it. It's like my father-in-law found a new type of screwdriver, and he's showing it to me on closets, bicycles, the garden, the roof, ... And of course, with this new screwdriver, all to-build homes will save at least 60%.

Peter Hinsen and Steven Van Belleghem cover about the same topics, and I don't have the feeling that I have to read summary after summary, generalization after generalization, ... in their books.

Not everything is related to IA, IA exists already for decades but gets more traction now, and not every success story needs to be linked to IA explicitly.

Regarding the format: it's obvious that this is self-published. Structure is lacking, chapters and fonts are making me crazy, Internet pictures of very low quality, memes, assets, name lists, and so much references (253) that the book could be cut in half.

Something positive: there are some good examples of IA applications and opportunities.

I like the author's content on Twitter + his podcasts, but this book needs an editor, publisher, and hard & honest feedback to get it to the right level.

So what are we waiting for?
Me not longer, I'm out.
