Fahrenzine 007 brings us a new tale from Ian Patrick, author of the Sam Batford series, with Patrick bringing another memorable criminal character to the fore, of whom I hope we see more of in the future.
Our unnamed protagonist comes to us getting his first tattoos at the age of 40-odd while about to have his second child. Cut to 24 hours earlier and throughout we learn what led him to the tattoo parlour.
This is a fast, thrilling tale from Patrick, which takes you in unexpected directions and as with the best stories leaves you wanting more. Patrick has a precise style that's loaded with enough detail to paint the overall picture, but without boring/frustrating the reader. This is a story where you are never entirely sure where it will go and the moves it takes are delightful and at times, offbeat.
Need to catch up with Batford #2 ahead of the impending third in the series and ever hopeful of seeing him hit our screens on the BBC.
