Matchmaker's Choice

Rate this book
Adley matches people for a living, but what happens when her client thinks she’s her perfect match?

Stephanie is sick and tired of finding Mr. Wrong, so she does the only thing she can think to do – she signs up for a dating agency. But when she finally starts to fall for someone, it doesn’t quite go to plan. Because she’s falling for the one person she can’t have … the matchmaker. And she’s a she, which is a surprise.

When it comes to romance, Adley’s had it rough. The irony of matching countless couples to their own Happily Ever Afters for a living while being decidedly single herself is not lost on her, but her painful past is holding her back. Until she meets one of her latest clients, Stephanie. And now, she’s not quite so sure she wants to keep her walls up anymore.

2.5 stars. I liked the premise of this book but it didn't live up to it's potential unfortunately.

Adley is a matchmaker who is given Stephanie as a client. Stephanie has been looking for a match for quite some time but has struggled to find a match for herself. Adley is having difficulties in her job and knows she has to find Stephanie a match or she will lose her job.

There were aspects of the story I enjoyed a lot - Adley's niece Tildy is fun and I enjoyed Stephanie's journey in admitting who she is to both herself and her family. I found the angst a little bit challenging as whilst I could understand the reasons behind it I felt some communication between the two would have resolved the issue.

The other difficulty I had with the book was the narrative point of view. It alternates between each characters point of view - but I couldn't really tell the difference between the two characters when we were in their own heads - they were written too similarly despite being from different backgrounds and being quite different in outlook etc.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book, but I wouldn't suggest avoiding it either. Others may feel differently about the narrative approach to me.

Disappointing - I kept checking that I wasn't reading a Young adult book - but the sex was described. So I'm unclear what market she is aiming for - the one page outline would have been good, but the execution? Not so. But 3 starts, I read, I wanted to know the ending.

Very average kindle unlimited romance. Very predictable, and not very well punctuated - lots of open quotes as the characters are 'speaking' so it gets confusing to see where the words end since the author doesn't know how to use end quotation marks.

Plus there's a heck of a lot of internal monologuing. Like way too much. I found myself skimming and skipping huge passages of rambling that added nothing, just to get through it. Most of it could have been edited down, A LOT.

I like the premise, but it's all so wishy-washy and easy, and then as I said predictable and a typical black moment, too. And a ridiculous HEA epilogue. Nothing unique here. Not as bad as many I've read, but nothing really captivating, either.

I just read this a second time and have to change my rating to 4.5 stars.
For some reason it read a lot better the second time. Maybe It was that I've read more of her work now, or that I read too many novels with too much toing and froing, may be I just had to re-read to understand it better.

This one was a little difficult for me to rate and review for two reasons the first time:

I realy liked the idea, although it is not at al surprisingly new. I know about the difficulties of coming out, too. Been there, done that but never got a T-shirt. I've probably been debating it with myself as long as Stephanie in the story.

Adley was much more difficult for me to understand. I have never been a half empty glass person, always up to taking new risks. The past is something we can't change, only learn from it but never let it haunt us and ruin our present. That's me. But then is this also supposd to be an age gap thing? I mean come on 24 is not teenage any more! But I could live with that little stumbling block.

The most important poblem I had with the story is that there is, for my liking, too much emphasis on sex. 170 pages, there could have been more non sexual interaction in relation to those scenes. What could have been deep and insightful was made a bit shallow by that. Then there is the split point of view, that hat has never been a favourite of mine, it keeps me from identifying with a charachter.

This time the sex wasn't that overwhelming any more.

I still struggled with the changing Point of view.

Then again tis time I saw what a fabulous character Stephanie's father really is.

The result is a solid 4.5 star rating.

Adley (matchmaker) and Stephanie (teacher/dating agency client) are the main characters in this romance. From inception I was drawn into the storyline, the angst, humor, bumps in the road and potential for something, somehow, to come from this pairing after failed agency match ups. I loved the slow attraction, build up of emotions and right amount of bedroom heat - the sense that they "fit" together both ultimately wanting the same things - love and family. The author's blending of the world of a lonely science teacher with that of a dejected, messy, anxious matchmaker was made easier by Tildy, Adley's niece. I so hoped for a HEA and read slowly enjoying the plot as it unfolded. Thank you Ms. Woods for a delightful read which I easily recommend.
I rec'd an ARC through Booksprout and this is a voluntary, un-biased review.

Adley works for a matchmaking company and after a few bad reviews, is on the verge of getting fired. She meets up with Stephanie, a new client who is looking to meet a man and conform to her parents' expectations for her. Even though Adley, a lesbian, is very attracted to Steph, she goes about setting her up on several dates with men who Steph thinks are good matches but has no interest in. Ready to scrap the matchmaking service, Steph tells Adley that in reality, she is gay. At that point, one thing leads to another.

I liked this book because I liked both MCs, especially Adley, who was extremely sweet and self-effacing. It's a pretty good romance, with only that one conflict point typical of its genre. Interested to see what else this author will do.

h'i can i first of say, that i almost got away without tearing up, wich is a big plus for me.
i did however find myself moist eyed at the sweet scenes, adley and steph were adorable even when aparently working to find a male partner for steph. although i agree with other posters about the
individual carictures per chapters i did follow mostly, i think i got all the way to three quarters through the book before the real angst, with so meany lesfic novels the reason for the angst is usualy
the lack of comunication between the two main m/c.s at the end i was sad to see the end come up i miss both of these wonderfull women.

Good story

I really enjoyed this story. Both Adley and Stephen are caring, loving women. They both have some issues they need to resolve but luckily they have each other to back them up.

Our heroine is frustrated in love and turns to a matchmaker to help her out. Turns out that match is nothing like either of them expected.

This is a romance of the F/F sort. I hope that doesn't turn you away because this is an excellent story. The story is well written and easy to read with a coup[le of very solid and believable characters that bring this story to life. The relationship develops slowly throughout the story in ways that neither characters were expecting. There are certainly some bumps along the road and some one them take a bit of effort to navigate, but the result is well worth the effort. Along the way we get a bit of steam and a very nice HEA. Overall, a highly enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Highly recommended.

Halfway through I was writing a 5 star review. I was intrigued with the psychology of starting a lesbian romance. From the beginning, the matchmaker was interested in the teacher. And when the teacher finally realized she did not want a guy, the connection should have been obvious. But as the teacher becomes more interested, the matchmaker withdraws, though she is very much attracted to the teacher.

All in all this is a well thought out story with believable characters and situations. I am not a big fan of overdone angst, but have come to realize the romantic genre is mostly that. Grab a copy and enjoy. I know I did.

I loved this book. It's about Adley and Stephanie. Stephanie wants to find Mr. Right but is sick and tired of finding Mr. Wrong, so she signs up for a dating agency. Matchmaker Adley has stayed single because of her painful past but will happen when she meets her new client. The story has chemistry, passion, twist and turns.

Stephanie at 33 is feeling ready to work on having a family. The matchmaking service Adley works for is trying to find her the perfect match- and Adley has a bit of a crush

What’s a gal to do when she’s falling for a woman who is looking for mister right? Or is she?

Finding their way to their true selves, working past the ghosts and pains of relationships past, and grabbing a chance at a future- it sounds so much less complicated than it feels

Growing, changing and becoming romance
