I live a quiet life with my husband and two dogs. All the excitement I need is in my books. And my full name is Lisa Alice Grant. But I couldn't resist using my initials.
I was willing to try this series out even if the first book left a little character and plot building to be desired because I wanted to see where this retelling of Arthur went. However, I don't think I will be continuing on.
This is a cool concept admittedly, Arthur back as a woman and now in love with the 4 knights? Sign me up. They have to face old foes and save their kingdom, again I am with you. Add in a human military presence from Earth that comes out of nowhere with no previous connection in the last three chapters? Maybe not. How about we do the original plan and original plot well and not add I. More facets when the others were already kinda falling short.
The concept is great, but I also have some hang ups on the execution and some questions. Was the only thing keeping King Arthur and his knights from hooking up the fact that he was a man? They all jumped on that opportunity so so fast that at times it feels odd. Arlena (which of course she was Arthur, LOOK AT HER NAME PERCY WTF) has flash back of being a man and losing her wife and friend and is just okay with Lance to the point of having multiple sex sessions with him? Percy slept with you, all the whole knowing he was going to hand you over to "Merlin" and you just were gonna sleep with him before the battle scene? What? Every step of the way where a character development moment or a meaningful talk about the past lives comes up she just glosses over and moves on.
And, we know nothing about any of these characters. Sometimes I can let some development go for the sake of plot but when the plot doesn't have anything you need to back up the characters and this author just doesn't.
I picked this up to get me out a HORRIBLE reading slump so I will say the fast pace of both books did help with that, but that's about it.
Very fast paced with quick action and even quicker emotions - though it is a fairly decent story. I wish it was longer, and it needs an edit, but the mistakes are minor and didn’t detract from the narrative.
Like seriously needs it. I spent more time highlighting basic errors in the book than reading it I felt like. This series should have a lot of potential but I am struggling with the inconsistencies and the characters. I want to like it more. I really do.
