When killers hide in the shadows, it’s time to set the world on fire.
After declaring war on the criminal underworld, elite assassin Reed Montgomery uncovered a crippling secret: The organization he’s fighting was founded by his father, and Reed must confront him if he has any hope of defeating it.
Reaching David Montgomery is easier said than done, however. While in prison for manslaughter, insanity has taken hold, and now David doesn’t remember his own son.
Armed with a list of his father’s known associates, Reed will drive out the truth by any means necessary. But some men will give anything to protect their secrets, and they are every bit as ruthless as Reed.

You might as well get Survivor right away as there is too much action in this one for one book. Founding members of the secret mythological society Omega, Alpha, Omega, Mitchell Holiday is dead. Frank Morccelli, Banks father, is dead. Reed's father, David, is in prison, in the area for those with mental disabilities. This leaves Dick Carter, Aiden Phillips and Liam Holland. One of them is responsible for those deaths. Banks figures Reed is responsible for the way everything happened. Her godfather was supposed to be Reed's last hit. He didn't kill him, but he ended up dead just the same. There are more than a few surprises that I encountered in this story. Oliver is dead. That leaves a bunch of unemployed assassins. These guys have worked with Reed and respect them, but someone is offering them $2 million to eliminate him. Some won't but some will. Unfortunately for them. As if that wasn't enough Reed somehow got on the FBI's Most Wanted list. Stay tuned!
I want to like it… it has great promise… but Reed just isn’t a very good assassin. His hand to hand is terrible and frankly he wouldn’t live long. The only reason he survives has nothing to do with skill. I like that he has emotion, but he is too emotional. Bouncing one minute from suicidal despair back to burning rage in his quest of revenge. I don’t mind unlikely stuff, it makes a great action read, but it needs explanation. How were they showing up every single place he was? Honestly I like this author and think he will turn out some great action books, just needs to find the right recipe for the character.

The first three books were quite exciting, even worthy of a three/four stars rating. How Reed Montgomery survived his battles is a whole different story (what a guy!) I wanted to purchase the next three in a box set, but I just couldn’t. The reason is - why did Logan have to include a romance in the story? Especially an instalove and, as we find out a little later, an absolute shrew like Banks. Alas, our assassin became a love sick fool. I really wanted to find out the conclusion and read all seven books - can anyone tell me if she meets her demise? It just might be worth reading if that’s the case😂

A few interesting twists in this volume. A character thought to be dead returns, and an unlikely ally appears. Otherwise, an extended chase story with bodies left in various parts of the country. Ends on a Saturday serial-type cliffhanger. Some things don't make sense, e.g. why the FBI can't get him but the bad guys can, and why try to get to his father for answers when he believes the man to be insane? Good enough to encourage me to eventually go on to volume five, but I am going to take a break from this series for a while as the style is getting repetitious.

Smoke and Mirrors is a great story about a man that had a very unique availability and skill developed in his Special Forces training during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The story describes how Reed Montgomery was brought back from the war and did not fit into society very easily. This book Smokes and Mirrors is about read trying to fit back into society with the only skill set that he really had was too take the life of another human being. This is a great book in the series of eight books that describe Montgomery‘s life.
Having finished the fourth book in this series I now have three months to wait until the fifth book, Survivor will be published. I guess that will give me time to catch my breath. The book was a great read and so many sub plots going on at the same time. Must admit, i feel quite sorry for Reed. He is not a bad person but bad luck, bad people and misfortune are ever present in his life. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Reed has lots of killer skills yet makes lots of typical average human errors. Somehow he manages to live through his mistakes in his quest to find his father and get some answers to many other life-long puzzles. But it ain't over yet. On to Book 5. (A few typos here and there marred an easy-to-use story)
Reed Montgomery, the Prosecutor, professional assassin, is on the warpath. He is determined to find the source of the maelstrom, and protect his girlfriend Banks at the same time. Exciting and almost overwhelming in its detail. I can’t wait for Book 5.
A great deal of rehash from the prior books. Repetitive content gets old. How many times must the hero get abused even though we know they end up….way too much adolescent drama. The ending merely shouted “buy the next book.” Too bad because the prior books were good reads.
Reed is an amazing person in a weird world that changes throughout the telling and reveals next steps but no clear ending in sight. He persevears in spite of the situations he blunders into until he reaches an impasse that made no sense.
On one hand, this series weaves a good mystery with decent dialogue and action. On the other, it teeters on the brink of some unbelievable coincidences.
There is a lot going on in this book. Many people are after Reed's head, and he manages to stay just ahead of the trouble, while tracking down his father and saving his love, Banks.
