Roger Hargreaves was a British cartoonist, illustrator and writer of children's books. He created the Mr. Men series, Little Miss series and Timbuctoo series, intended for young readers. The simple and humorous stories, with bold, brightly coloured illustrations, have sales of more than 85 million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
Could be used for a very young audience to reinforce the concept of time and how clocks 'tell' us the hour. It would be especially useful if one's activities coincided with the times in the book, such as 7:00 is time to get up, or 8:00 is bedtime. Bold colors and small format make it easy for little hands to hold. I still don't understand that this series gives specific names to the main character, but none to the children who are being instructed. Does the generic 'boy' or 'girl' help a child feel included??
Grandfather Clock can turn his entire body into a clock face to tell the time.
I'm sure Grandfather Clock's unique ability was way more impressive back in the 1970s when this story was written than it is today when the majority of the population is carrying a mobile phone that displays the time.
This is a very plain story about a grandfather who can turn himself into a clock. There is a lot of text pressed into small pages, and although it is attempting to teach children about telling time on analog clocks, it's easy to get lost in the busyness of each page.
