A lighthearted magical romp through a town full of magic of all kinds and magical characters of all kinds. Ms Ashta’s characters are hilarious! Great entertainment! I don’t know where she gets her imagination from but I’m glad to be the recipient. This book is guaranteed to lift you out of your doldrums during any pandemic. A great quote from one of the characters well worth a repeat here “You just gotta embrace the crazy and roll with it.” I love it! And I can guarantee you will too.

Also, amamos tener erizo representation 🦔 💖.

Second in the Witches of Gales Haven paranormal fantasy for women series and revolving around Marla and the downhome yet powerful Gawama family. The focus is on Marla Gawama, a returned runaway who has been back for one week.

My Take
It's loyalty and the trust the townspeople have in their council. It's Marla as well, lol, she's certainly making a name for herself among the townspeople.

That Marla has a lot of stiffnecked reactions to get rid of! At least compared to, ahem, everyone else in Gales Haven.

We got more back history on Quade and Marla's past together through first person protagonist point-of-view from Marla's perspective. That's also why we're stuck with listening to Marla moan and whine about herself again.

I do love this town. Sure, it's annoying that everyone is interested in everyone else's business, but they're also there when you're in trouble. Even better is how out there they are. They embrace life!
"If you wait to be happy till you think you're perfect, you'll never be happy."
Humphrey notes how useful Luanne's romance novels are for providing him with exercise and good tips on sex that his girlfriend is enjoying. Hmmm, that might be why Luanne and Shawna are way over-sexed.
"Once you don't care what anyone thinks of you, you're free as a bird."
Oh, it's Macy's and Cody's first day at school, and that school seems to be a pip. Yep, Nan does not abide bullying. We need her in all our schools.

Tessa has been out searching America for allies, and she's learned quite a bit. Not all of it good.

Adding in those magical creatures is a mixed blessing. They do have some human traits — the skunks like to smoke Happy Times, the Gales Haven equivalent of pot. It's that Mindy that has me so indecisive. She's so snarky and rude.

Gales Haven has an interesting economy, and it's magic that makes this system work. A much better type of socialism where everyone is required to contribute to the capacity of their skills. It also depends on how trustworthy a person is, as Maguire finds out. I'll have to read Charmed Caper to discover what happens next! Yep, I also want to know more about Quade's reaction to his mother's actions. Poor guy.

That leprechaun may be slippery and tricksy, but he does have his ego. And it seems that his people have the same issues with people's imaginations as the characters in Laurell K. Hamilton's Laurell K. Hamilton's A Terrible Fall of Angels. It's tricksy too to verbalize a wish, and I'm impressed by the one put together by Bab, Mindy, and Marla.

For someone who's so anxious to jump into bed with Quade, Marla sure does keep putting him off. Hmm, I wonder if it's typical behavior for her, as Marla keeps putting off seeing Mo Ellen, in spite of all the eating she's doing of Jowelle's cooking.

The action is low-key with some very colorful characters. It also has an uneven pace, IMO, as the story flips back and forth between the fun and Marla's whining.

Yay! It's true! The Gawama Mama House cleans itself! And Mindy gets her dearest wish!

The Story
The barrier that protects Gales Haven is fixed. Sort of. They still need to pull out that hooked-in spell of Delise's!

Meanwhile Delise and Maguire are in Irma's custody. Somewhere.

It's a prediction and a theft that finds Marla installed as the town detective, and it's a great opportunity for us to meet more of the townspeople.

The Characters
Marla Gawama is a witch who doubts herself and has only returned to Gales Haven because of her children: seventeen-year-old Macy whose magic disrupts and the fifteen-year-old Cody whose magic links other magic users. Marla's magic has evolved from sensing the emotional state of animals to hearing animals speak and absorbing some of the magic of others.

The Gawama Mama House is . . .
. . . home base for the most powerful family of magic users who are led by Nan, Bessie Gawama, Marla's grandmother. Bessie's husband, Grandpa Oscar, is dead. Nan has/had four daughters: the grim Jowelle who is an amazing cook and can sense a person's mental body; Shawna's magic lets her connect to a person's spiritual body; the free-spirited Luanne senses a person's emotional body; and, Neorah's, Marla's mom who ran away, power related to the physical body. Together, the four sisters could heal most everything. Great-great-granny Jemima gave the Gawamas their last name to celebrate their new home, and she helped found and protect the town.

Quade Contonn is Marla's first love. Harlow is his daughter. I think there's a mutual attraction between her and Cody. Delise is his horrible mother, who has been forcing her husband, Maguire, for years.

Gales Haven is . . .
. . . a town composed entirely of magic users and founded in 1803 by five families: the Gawamas, the Lamonts, the Smates, the Adamses, and the Egertons. A member of each family composes the town council: Bessie Gawama, Tessa Smates, Darnell Adams (he can project his voice anywhere), Stella Egerton, and Irma Lamont (she can teleport). Noreen Bradley is the council stenographer as well as the accountant. Sylvia Smate and Thomas Smate are some of Tessa's relatives.

Everleigh and Kama are powerful spell weavers who've been working nonstop on that unexpected spell in the barrier. The joyful Wanda Mathers/Woodles?? had been Marla’s best friend and is the owner of the Cock, Coffee, and Cocoa Café where she keeps some, um, exotic toys in the back room. The pig-tailed Leonie (she studies people's magic) works for Wanda. The Gales Haven News is the local newspaper. Mabel of Mabel’s Medicinal and Restorative Herbs for Healing and Relaxation carries Happy Times. She's also developed some less intoxicating concoctions. Other shops include Hair for Hotties and Hatties; Three Hundred Sixty-Nine Fabulous Feisty Flavors; Troy owns Toys, Trinkets, and Tinies; Bailey's New and Rare Books is a handy shop; and, Bab runs the Bopping Boopy Bakery and has a rivalry going with Jowelle.

Scotty‘s magic allows him to see spells. Jelly Frumpers can predict the future. Mo Ellen can tailor a spell for the individual, including one to prevent one from gaining weight! Jadine Lolly is missing some essential unmentionables. She's also husband-hunting. The Complete Registry of the Magical Powers and Abilities of the Residents of the Great Town of Gales Haven tracks the magical abilities of every resident. Dixie's magic is locating things. Danny is the town handyman who gets a lot of action. Gus is suited to driving the bus. Suzy is a gossipy citizen. Dottie Hames is always losing her pretty knife that's spelled to help her find what she's looking for. Beebee brews some potent drinks. Willow's magic can clean up anything.

The queen of the magical creatures is Mindy who is married? mated? to George, both hedgehogs with some cute kids. Seems a leprechaun head-butted George and that's why he's not mentally all there. Penny is the porcupine. Humphrey, er, I mean Hugh, is a cheeky little mouse. Petunia is his second cousin. His cousin, Basil, is stupid.

Outside of Gales Haven
Tessa has discovered that there are other magical havens, including several academies: the Magical Creatures Academy (Sir Lancelot is a pygmy owl who is its headmaster), the Magical Arts Academy, the Magical Dragons Academy, and the Magical Objects Academy. Mindy is quite thrilled to hear about how many magical creatures occupy positions of respect and power! Professors Egan (a pegataur) and Burl (a gnome) reveal some scary action going on, including the Sorcerers for Magical Supremacy and the Voice. Mordecai and Albacus, brothers and sorcerers, as well as Clara, a powerful intuitive witch, and her husband, Marcelo, a sorcerer, are willing to help.

The Cover and Title
The cover is a frame of purple tinting a background of Wanda's shop and creating an oval pink center for the pink tea being poured from the white teapot into a white teacup with sparkling white "smoke" in the lower middle. At the top is a script font in white for the series info. Below this and still above the pink is the title in a deep sky blue. Below the teacup is the author's name in white.

The title is accurate, for there's Magical Mayhem everywhere in Gales Haven.

ONE CRAZY FUN-FILLED RIDE!!!
Leaping lizards! Lucia let the skeletons out of the closet with this lol, perfectly paired smashed up team, riding this delightfully composed treat with one fantastically fun storyline and engaging plot, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Quirky mishaps and surprising happenstance, showcase the daunting trials and misnomers tribulations, stumbling through the funky twists and startling turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they never saw coming. Blurred lines and crossed boundaries, strengths are weighed and balanced, catapulting this lil' fella forward without a hitch, booting it into overdrive, blasting it into a hissy with a eye-opening realization. Shenanigans, escapades and mayhem rule the roost displaying the drama, turmoil, intrigue, secrets, spiraling suspense and electrifying situations, along with a boatload of moxie and sass, you have one intoxicating experience. The characters, banter, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow, transforming into genuine charismatic personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions, as to give you a full understanding and realism that flows smoothly. Amazing job Lucia, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

Using the word empowering over and over? A normal biological act is empowering? Really? Can men claim having an erection in the morning as "empowering"? Do men get to be mad at women if men talk about it nonstop, throw the information into women's faces every chance they get, and the women don't care to hear about it?

All men are stupid, fat, and/or ugly. The only acceptable male is ripped, quiet, does whatever the woman wants, and is "sensitive". The women rule the town and all the men follow meekly?

Lucia Ashton, you are a hypocrite. All through this book, older "heavier" women are told to love their body and then men will automatically love them back. Heavy, even fat, from the description, woman is told she is perfect the way she is. A man who apparently has the same weight issues is taken to task in the MC's head and that's OK? He is supposed to not be fat, but it's OK for the women to be fat. This is comedy? This is equality?

Well, to be fair, Ms. Aston never mentions equality in this book. It is obvious the only equality Ms. Ashton wants is the choice between left or right when putting a boot on a man's neck.

Is this really what you women want?

Have you ever read a book that felt like an update from home and left you feeling rather homesick? Obviously, I know I’m not Marla and I’m not a Gawama-Llama and I know I don’t live in Gales Haven, which must be the greatest place on earth but it is my Spirit Home. Just like Mindy is my Spirit Anima…gical Creature. Gales Haven and all it’s oddity and eccentricity is my heart’s home.

I’m happy to see that Marla is adjusting better and learning to go with the flow no matter how weird the water is! There’s less regret and more embracing of what she has now and I am loving the opportunity to see more of her sense of humour.

Mystery and magic abound in this installment of the series and I don’t believe I’m giving away too much when I tell you that you’re about to get to know a leprechaun a whole lot better than you ever thought you needed to!

I love this series! Magic aside, it’s honestly magical! It’s fun and light and interesting and utterly consuming in it’s fascinating characters and twists and turns. This book manages to be a reality check self help guide and a wonderful escape at the same time. I was smiling from the first word until the moment I realized I hadn’t washed the dishes. Dishes are such dweebs!

Wow what an adventure Marla goes on this time! Marla gets stuck becoming the new detective in town. Thanks to Nan, & no one argues with Nan. Marla just wanted to find a normal job. However it seems like in Gales Haven there is no such thing. When someone starts stealing things in town Marla gets her first case. She is also told to take 4 people & Mindy (the snarky hedgehog) along to help her. All her Aunts manage to do is embarrass her though. The chaos that ensues as Marla tried to solve this case is hilarious. Marla doesn't understand how others see her. Like many women she only sees what she considers flaws. She can't help but point out what she hates about her body. However Quade doesn't see her body the same way. He loves it just the way it is. Quade is a very special guy, it's hard to find a guy like that. Poor Marla the whole town knows thanks to Nan, if they hadn't already heard from the local gossip. And word travels fast in Gales Haven! I really loved this book. Especially Lucia's new words like fooking & shemexy. Really made me laugh. Can't wait for the next adventure.

Literally, there is mayhem through the entire book, and it’s hilarious. The entire book is really amusing; leaving you laughing at least once every few pages. Ashta still continues to show Marla’s vulnerability when it comes to her opinion of herself in this time of her life, and it’s refreshing to not only have such an extensive female support system in her grandmother and aunts, but also in her returned love interest. When some of the townsfolk face off towards the end of the book, I wish there was more magic thrown in to the mix, but I guess it’s to be expected since everyone has a specialty and are not blanket witches in other worlds. The humor alone makes me want to continue the series, and wonder what crazy will come about in the next one.

I voluntarily review an ARC.
This is the second book of the Witches of Gales Haven series, the books should be read in order.
Welcome to Gales Haven, where almost everyone seems to be a bit crazy or has a strange sense of humour.
I already knew Lucía to be a brilliant writer, but her books keep getting even better. She has outrageous ideas how the story continues, unimaginable characters and events make you gasp or laugh in disbelief. But the really cool thing is this - it works!
You will not be able to put this fluently written, incredibly funny, unpredictable story down. And you'll join me in yearning for the next part...

Amazing fun read 😁🤩

OMG what a fantastic, funny installment, with an amazing world building and one of a kind characters... The Gawama women are so unique 😂, the interactions between Marla and Mindy (the hedgehog) are hilarious, you won't stop laughing 😅... But, also, the union and support of the Gales Haven community and, mainly, of the Gawama family are so touching 🤗💕... I need more of Marla and Quade in the next book, their eternal love is everything 💞😍... Looking forward to read the next book, this is a MUST read series, 💯 recommended!!! 💖

Lucia Ashes Nailed It!

I loved reading books about a middle age mother with insecurities that are relatable to the real world. No matter how magical the setting, moms of teenagers have the same issues it seems. The humor was excellent as well. My only issue was that the aunts were a bit too focused on sexual stuff to the point that it got a little repetitive and boring. I did love the irreverent feel to the series and will be reading more from this author. I'm officially a fan.

Magical Mayham is book 2 in the Witches of Gales Haven series. This is such a funny, light hearted read. I’m blown away at Lucia’s knack for building characters that I am so invested in. This entire series (so far) speaks to my inner woman warrior and reminds me with every chapter that woman are fierce and can do anything we put our mind(s) to. AND, I promise you will laugh your a$$ of through the entire book!

Settling in.

It looks like Marla is settling back into her childhood town. She has a loud and recharge family. This book is full of humor as we fallow Marla around with her new town duties. Who says you don't have a life after 40? Not this town. I enjoyed this story. I think it has all the stuff that you need to have a good book. I read this in one day. During quarantine 2020.

Coming back home

The Gawamas are a family of characters that keep you laughing at their outrageous behavior but also make you care at all the love they share for one another. It's heartwarming to know that when you are truly loved you can go home again. And becoming the town's resident detective and chasing a spanx stealing leprechaun only seems to be the beginning of Marla's new life after coming back home! Look forward to the next magical adventure.

A Magically Entertaining Romp

Marla seems to be stuck being the town detective. The Leprechaun is into all kinds of mischief and people are annoyed. Her Nan made it clear that she has to deal with it. Marla wants badly to get back together with her high school boyfriend Quade. However, something always comes up to thwart their consummation of their love. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

Magical Mayhem

I loved every second of the book. I laughed, cried, cheered, cursed and shook my fists while reading the book. I do wish it was a little longer, it felt as if I had just started it and then (bam!) it was over.

I have a few friends who I think would enjoy this book.

I choose a five star rating because it really is a great book. It kept my interest from start to finish and had me wondering what was going to happen next.

Mixed Emotions

Rarely has a book taken me this long to read. Ashta has a brilliant imagination that makes her books entertaining. But i get quite embarrassed by her conversations about women’s monthly experiences and the characters’ insatiable sex drives. Spoiler: Our heroine is supposed to solve the problem of the leprechaun, but the poor homeless and lonely creature is still in the same situation. I am disappointed in that non-development.

This book was just as funny as the first. There are new adventures as Marla and her kids settle into Gales Haven. There’s a Spanx thief on the loose who might be a leprechaun and Marla is put in charge of solving the case. The characters are quirky and interesting. The caper was fun but the whole book spanned only one day. I would have liked more of her and Quade. They just didn’t have enough time together. In all though, it was a fun read.

Hilarious

Even more madcap shenanigans in this second in this series. While the protection spell that covers the town is being repaired an over-ambitious witch attaches her magic to it and all hell breaks loose. Filled with crazy magic snark courtesy of a talking hedgehog and lots of humour and even a little romance, and did I mention the buck naked lepricorn dangeley bits included, great story with crazy characters well worth a read, Baz.

A fantastic mystery that really grabbed me right from the start. This has great humor in it. And romance as well. This read had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put this down until I finished it. The scenes are written so well that as I read it I could picture the scenes in my mind's eye. If you love reads that have mystery and magic then this is definitely a must read.

A snarky heroine, magic, a case to solve, a freakin’ hilarious set of perfectly crafted supporting characters, all tied up in one heck of a superbly well written tale. Such is Marla’s story in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Mayhem (Witches of Gales Haven Book 2). It’s a pretty wonderful “Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel”. Frankly it’s a pretty darn wonderful novel, period. Highly recommended.

Just another day in a magical town until Marla is tasked with hunting down a leprechan on the loose who loves his spanx. Punishment is decided for Delisa, and things start to heat up with Quade. I'm looking forward to the next book to see what craziness happens then.

Gawama women!

If this place were real, I'd love to hang out with these ladies! They have spunk, and spitfire personalities.

I love the hijinks in this book. And learning more about the characters. Really, it feels like a fun jaunt out with friends. I'm really looking forward to the next book, and excited to see what escapades the town will get into.
