They have moved to Atlanta for his teaching job at the University. She is looking for an apartment when she finds a room at a mansion and the horror and haunting begins.
I would recommend this novel to readers of horror ghosts haunting fantasy novels. 2024
This book has a really great premise. Intertwining the Confederate era with the contemporary world, the author has created a haunting tale as the horrors of the first bleeds into the present. It's a generational story; the eponymous house, of course, taking centre stage.
And what a house it is (!) chock-full of corridors, relics, family portraits, old keys, and, wheelchairs. Mausoleums and dodgy undertakers also take a bow and why does the place start to crumble when someone leaves it? Of course, from the outset we know something is wrong and we draw upon all sorts of theories as to what it is, never quite getting there until the end.
I especially liked the descriptions of the house. Some authors seem to eschew adjectives, but not this one. Braddock mansion is a vividly painted portrait.
The story abounds with tension and suspense sucking in its main character - and the readers - as the mystery unfurls. To top it all, as all becomes revealed, the horror escalates to an absolute stonker of a filmic ending. Great stuff!
The Curse of Braddock Mansion is a twist to the typical old mansion story. Natalie and her husband, Evan, are living in a hotel while looking for a new home. Natalie feels she’s found the perfect place when she stumbles across Braddock Mansion, especially with the historical significance that comes with it. A historical significance that matches Evan’s job and interests.
Living there brings a whole different perspective to her life. The family is odd, the house and grounds seem to change radically from day to day, and the mansion itself seems to play tricks on Natalie. She is determined to figure out what is going on even if she has to be a bit sneaky and nose around a little.
The Curse of Braddock Mansion was a welcome breath of fresh air. The story line was unique and piqued my interest from the get go. Who were these people and what the heck was going on with their home? I was a bit distressed by.... Read the full review at https://latishaslowkeylife.com/review...
I had picked up a free excerpt of this book and after only reading a few chapters I was hooked and therefore ended up buying this novel. I’m damn glad I did. What a read!!! I was absolutely chilled by the Braddock family and their creepy house. I could easily visualize everything that was happening within this historic mansion. The atmosphere from the very beginning was haunting. Pierce knows how to spin a story so that the reader is on edge until the last sentence. Speaking of the last sentence, holy cow!!!! I can’t stop thinking about it. I read another novel by this author and it too left me with chills for days later. This author is one to watch and he has me by the throat!
I enjoyed this horror story. A young couple move into a house temporarily and find unusual happenings. I liked the way Pierce left clues along the way for the reader to think they knew what to expect and then as we read on, we get slammed with something completely unexpected. If you enjoy ghost stories, you will love The Curse of Braddock Mansion....highly recommended. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
First time reading Augustine Pierce and not to bad. Storyline was good and characters alright. Only giving a one star because don't really like authors that have to keep a story going to buy more books. I understand trying to make money, and I guess it's my fault for not seeing it said Trilogy Book 1. I would've never bothered. I respect authors that can write a 200-500+ novel that has a beginning and end. Stories and endings that complete what you are trying to read. A good book with a ending. If authors are going to sell a book with no endings but continuations, it should be sold as a set. Can't recommend this book because of my pet peeve.
