I never asked to be taken from my quiet life in Boston and turned into a royal vampire’s slave. But now that I’m here, I must either submit or die.
My captor took me for his own, but his equally powerful brother will stop at nothing to steal me away. How can I escape when my choice of lover could change everything about their world? Or end it, once and for all.
Sara Thorn writes dark paranormal romances filled with all her favorite supernaturals. Her series, Marked by Night, is planned for over 30 books. Sara loves all things "geeky fantasy" and spends her free time playing RPG's and browsing the shelves of used bookstores.
I liked the storyline but it was a little to detailed at time. Story find have a good flow to it. I liked the characters. I won't be reading next one. Not the book for me.
Weird start. A homeless dancer is “saved” by a stranger. Then gets sucked into an alternate works via a virtual reality game. There she learns about vampires. And then has feelings for you one of the leaders and a fae. Lacks chemistry and depth. Story line is weak at best.
Paranormal romance with vampires and Fae with a human in the middle
No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are some grammatical errors that really irritate but not too many it totally spoils the book. I found the characterisation lacking in any depth, I didn't care who lived or died, I just couldn't connect to any of them. They felt two dimensional, stiffly worked without real thought to different personality traits. Then again, it took me an age to get into it, mostly because the world building was minimal, or maybe the reactions of the FL were ridiculously naively written. You get dumped as a slave into an alternate world and feel contempt for your fellow slaves, you get over your anger within a few pages and concentrate on making friends . . . . Yeah, I don't think so. The backstory is so thin you can see right through it and the plotline is predictable apart from the constant gossip bringing details of revolt (because that's not something you would want to keep secret is it?) In all honesty this is more YA than mainstream, the vampires don't even feed in it. It's all very 'Hobbity ', even the single sex scene. Plus I am a bit miffed at the price of the book for a slightly longer than novella length and more than miffed it ends on a cliff hanger. I don't think I will be purchasing the next book in this series. Anne Rice it isn't.
Mara has had a tough life. One day Athan took her under his wing and she was doing what she wanted. She was at a school for dance. Until one day she is transported to another world filled with supernatural. Athan and his half brother, Cassius choose from the group. Cassius takes Mara. There is more between them. The relationship of Cassius and Athan is anything but good. Quinn, who is a fae, is in charge of Mara and she has feelings for him also. It all comes to a head. Mara is taken. Will they forget their agenda to rescue Mara from Athan? Onto next book.
When I first read the description of this book, it seemed enticing so I decided to give it a go. I found the story line was decent with good ideas, but as I read through, a lot of it was very slow paced. I found it difficult to really stay engaged with it or find a connection to the characters. While reading, I noticed a few spelling errors, which had me wondering why the editors didn't pick these up. All in all, it was an alright read. I will continue with the next book in the series to see where the story goes.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book, even if the way in which the main female character end up in the altenative universe is a little cheap and much less enticing than what I expected reading the description from the book. I enjoyed reading it even if it will not be remembered for long; I hope this was the first book of the author and that the next one of the series gets better. This one is under 200 pages which is too short to properly set a fantasy universe, in depth characters and an unpredictable plot. We're left with a cliffhanger which will make me read the next one... some day.
Mara was homeless she danced on the street for money then night after night a man came and watched her then one night the man Athan told Mara that he can get her off the streets and into a school for her dancing so Mara agreed, but there’s more to Athan than what Mara knows and a betrayal she never believed would happen to her. There is so much more going on in this story and I can’t wait to read the others and I recommend this book.
What happens when you get trapped in a new world where vampires exist and you become their slave? When two brothers want the same woman will hell rain down before them? A good story concept, that draws you in and has you engaged with the characters feelings. The story does end with a part 2 expected.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lacking world building. The MC is somewhat childish, the vampire rulers are too contrasting, even the fae is boring. Had the writing moved more into world development earlier and definitely built in a stronger less boring sex scenes then this would have been a much better series and received more recognition. Also, hire a good proof reader next time.
This series is part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription. I was a quarter into reading when I almost have up. It was a little slow for my liking. Giving in to reading a few more pages I found myself sucked into Mara's new world of vampires and fae. A good read I will, I will continue this series.
The premise is good but the writing or maybe it’s the character development that is a bit childish. Almost robotic. I didn’t get the feels when hearing about what they were going through. It was very stilted in my opinion. I won’t be continuing this series. I was hopeful.
Just a quick review. While I like this series for the story I urge the author to find a GOOD editor. There are many consistency issues as well as other issues that need a deft hand of a professional editor.
Awful grammar, complete with misusage of words, spelling errors, poor sentence structure, and just bad bad writing. Poor execution of plot, rushed and incoherent. This book is just a mess. I've read better fanfiction.
This book had me hooked from the very beginning! I am a lover for fantasy & fiction. I can’t wait to start the next book in the series! I’d recommend this series to anyone who loves vampires and other mythical creatures.
I like the premise, the overall ideas of the book, but everything felt a little rushed and odd. Conversations didn’t flow naturally nor did the sudden attitude changes of the characters. Sadly, I couldn’t make it past the first 40% of the book.
It was a quick read. It started out slow and I felt it was rushed at the end. It was an alright book. I just didn't connect the characters. Maria's feelings really change too quickly. Ill read the next book in the series just to see what happens.
Wow! This is a great start to book 1. The storyline was crazy amazing and the characters!! The characters are so good I can picture all of them, well how I see them at least. I could not put this book down and I just loved it!! Ok book 2 here I come!!
Not what I expected but was interesting enough to finish the first book. When I read the description of the book I thought it was going to be a love triangle but did not end up being that way. Will I read the next book on the series? Probably not.
This book is absolutely marvelous.😊 the characters are wonderful to. The story line is definitely wonderful. It was hard to read myself away from moving on to the second book and read, to write this review. I wish I could read all day!!
