Murder in the Mix #31

Baby Bundt Cake Confusion

Rate this book
A baker who sees the dead. One too many suitors.
And a killer. Living in Honey Hollow can be murder.

My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead people. Okay, so I rarely see dead people, mostly I see furry creatures of the dearly departed variety, who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owner’s impending doom.

It’s almost Lottie’s birthday and her due date. It's raining suspects and contractions. There’s a baby in the mix—and a killer too.

Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to the dead—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.

Living in Honey Hollow can be murder.

Pins and needles

Totally team Everett!!! The baby is here and we still have to wait to find out who's the daddy, I don't think I can handle the suspense much more. Please, please be Everett he is so much better for Lottie than Noah. 💜

Meh writing, fun characters, great plot!

The headline sums up my impression of Baby Bundt Cake Confusion, book 31 of Addison Moore's Murder in the Mix series set in Honey Hollow, Vermont. Lottie Lemon, professional baker and amateur sleuth, has a double murder to solve, a B&B to buy back from the tacky new owners, and the paternity of her baby to handle. Massive amounts of fried pickles, spice cake with hot sauce, and honey buttered chicken can't help her, so she must rely on the 2 potential dads: cop Noah Fox and judge Essex Everett Baxter (long story).
MEH WRITING: I've been a professional proofreader, copy editor, and writer. I overlook most errors, but when I see a misused word I have to write a Note. Some, like "averting" their eyes when they should roll them, or "sharing a warm laugh" with just-met folks after making fun of someone when they should share a "covert chuckle" with good friends, happen so often I stop making Notes and just highlight them! A more careful editor would catch them; a more thorough editor would help the author recast the series to make the books less formulaic. I have to admit, I solved the murders before Lottie did, and though I didn't know *why* they did it, I did know *who*.
FUN CHARACTERS: I believe sex outside marriage is wrong, but when I otherwise like someone I try to overlook it. Lottie, for all her baby-daddy confusion, owes much of it to tawdry Miranda, who's so insecure she sleeps with every man who shows her attention, and her crass birth mom Carlotta, who left her newborn on the firehouse floor as a 16-year-old and also forgot to mature. At 45, she's got no filter and is the embarrassing aunt in the family. Evie calls Miranda Glam Glam at Miranda's request; she calls Carlotta Cray Cray, and Carlotta, who knows what it means, approves.
Cressida is the classic Mean Girl and who wants everything her way, including "Essex", the name every woman Everett's bedded gets as a door prize. The exceptions who can call him Essex: his mother and sister, Noah's mother Suze, and his wife, Lottie (another long story).
Cormack, Cressida's dumber sidekick, has history with both men from prep school, when Noah "stole" her from Everett. She mostly goes along with Cressida and helped paint the B&B's interior hot pink, the color of the staff uniform; she also drapes herself shamelessly over Noah because her "Big Boss" is still single, whereas Essex is married.
Both Noah and Everett both love Lottie, and she loves them both--hence the paternity question. Suze hates Lottie, but Everett's mother Eliza and sister Meghan like her a lot, and the feeling is mutual. In this book, Lottie discovers something about Suze that makes her more sympathetic (no spoilers!) and Wiley remains the only potential in-law with no redeeming qualities except his attachment to Miranda and crazy ideas for her career. My disapproval aside, they're all fun!
GREAT PLOT: This book differs from the first 30 in that there are 2 victims but only 1 ghost; Everett makes a mysterious deal with the mob; and a mystery woman who looks exactly like Lottie keeps showing up in HH. Ethel the gun has a cameo in the apprehension of the killers; and Noah's suspension is lifted while Everett waits for his trial (yet another long story). There's also a study session that turns into a party, to Everett and Lottie's surprise but not Carlotta's; a Saint Patrick's Day parade that resembles Mardi Gras; and the above-mentioned unsolved mysteries--what deal did Everett make, and who's the Lottie lookalike Everett stopped? Those are great cliffhangers, and I want to read the solutions in book 32. For those who aren't bothered by language errors, I recommend it!

All I can say is WOW. I really love this series and this book just keeps on making it obvious as to why I love this series. There is always so much going on and well there is Lottie and her transmundane abilities. We always get excited to see what is going to happen when she sees a dearly departed animal. We always want to know who this animal might belong to so we know who will be murdered. Of course, we never get o find that out till it is too late.

In this book, Everette and Noha take Lottie to their high school reunion. Lots of stuff going on there and who would think that a very pregnant Lottie would stumble upon a murdered body let alone two. I guess that Herst Curse is going strong still.

Lottie has so much going on. She has way too many things to do to get ready for her "Sugar Cookie" appearance and now she has to figure out who has murdered these people. The biggest problem is. there is only one departed animal to help. This has never happened before nor has she ever stumbled across two bodies. So we shall see how things progress on this front. Let us not forget that Lottie is stressing about the coming of the good judges trial among other things.

This book really grabs you and pulls you in. THAT ENDING THOUGH!!!! Umm when is the next book coming out??? we need it now..LOL

This could be read as a stand-alone but you really need to read them from book 1 on up as they build off of each other and you get to know all of the characters in these books like they are your own family.

Bring on the pitter-patter of little feet ...

Baby Bundt Cake Confusion is the thiry-first book in the Murder in the Mix series by Addison Moore and it's fantastic. Town baker Lottie Lemon is once again doomed to stumble upon the ghastly murder of one of her town's residents who just so happens to be sampling her desserts. Using her ever-evolving transmundane abilities with the help of a furry specter, Lottie and friends must hunt for a killer among the residents of Honey Hollow. Hopefully without provoking the murderer to turn their sights on our investigative town baker with a bun in the oven herself. Pregnant or not, Lottie can't keep her investigative curiosity in check.

Meanwhile, underneath the murder mystery remains the ongoing love triangle between Lottie, Everett and Noah with the added complication of the mystery paternity of their soon-to-be-born baby. With the newest addition to their trio soon to be thrown into the mix, the pressure is turned sky-high on the threesome. Can they truly remain amicable for much longer or will the baby's paternity be the final nail in the coffin for their relationships?

While this is a standalone, I highly recommend reading at least a few of the previous books in the series. This book is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page and give you a few good laughs in between. I can't wait to see what this gang gets up to next and you can guarantee I'll be first in line to find out.

I received a copy of this book for the purpose of a review.

Amazing

One big rollercoaster after another. Everette and Noah have been suspended from their jobs. Everette has moved out to protect his family. Lottie has confronted the mob hoping to get the hit take off of Everette. She has even had gone as far to say the Jimmy the mob boss maybe her biological father to get the hit removed since he was the one that issued it. Noah is still being self centered say that be baby Lottie is having is his. She hasn’t taken control of the full situation.

There has been a double homicide at the School Reunion and two of Everette and Noah’s friends have been murdered. As they are against the click to solve this mystery. As Lottie will soon have her baby. Everette is still possible looking at prison time if they can’t convince and jury that he is innocent.

He has finally given Fiona a defense and it just might work. So there is still a chance to avoid prison. But has he made a bad decision where his life is concerned to protect his family. Has is finally crossed the line of no return. Has he made a pack with the devil or will this just come back to hunt him for ever.

Who is the mystery lady that has been following them. What is her purposes and what is she trying to do?

Love this series! Lottie Lemon is due to have her baby soon.. Her life is a mess! Her husband, Everett, is due to go on trial for moving a body and the local mob boss has put out a hit on him! Her boyfriend, Noah, is suspended from the police department for moving said body. She's coping by eating everything in sight. So much goes on in this great cozy mystery! Lottie and Everett stumble onto a murder. Lottie, who is transmundane and can see ghosts, wants to solve it, even if it puts her in danger. I love that this book uses three different points of view. Each chapter is told by the view of one of the three main characters which allows you to delve deeper into what they're feeling. I think you'll love the characters and creative plots in this book too! Anxiously awaiting the next book that should reveal a few more surprises!

Baby Bundt Cake Confusion is the thirty first book in the Murder in the Mix Mystery series. This series stories builds on each other so I would suggest reading them in order to get the most out of it, but you could always read them as a stand alone if you wanted to and not be to lost.
Lemon has a gift of seeing dead animal of those who will experience back luck soon, but lately deadly luck. Like all the books in this series, when Lottie sees a ghostly animal she knows death is soon to follow.
But this book has upped it the ante, not only do we find one victim we find two. But only one of the victims has a ghostly helper to find the killer. But having two dead body’s makes it twice as hard, meaning they need to figure out who the intended target was will looking for the killer.
Omg. The ending on this one had me screaming and the page. This book had several little twist that pulled the reader in a little deeper than notable and I am so needing my next fix.

Lottie Lemon is awaiting the arrival of her little bundle of joy while also trying to determine the paternity of the baby. Everett and Noah are both in for the long haul so I don't see anything changing for them soon. Noah and Everett's high school reunion brings a new dynamic to Lottie's sleuthing. There is a killer afoot and she is determined to find out who it is. It seems Noah and Everett are both trying to figure out how to undo the Florenzo mishap. I did like how this book had differing POV's and let us see into Noah and Everett's thoughts. The ending was interesting and it was nice to finally find out what Lottie was having. I wonder how that ending is going to play out in the next book. Am hoping for Everett and Noah to get some much needed answers about their future in the next book.

When Noah and Everett take Lottie to their high school reunion, the last thing they expect to find is another murder. With Lottie ready to deliver her "Sugar Cookie", Noah and Everett want to keep Lottie as far away from investigating the latest murder as they can. But, Honey Hollow's busiest baker is stubborn and persistent. Diving in to a reality tv show gives some insight into the suspects. With constant contractions, chicken dances, and worrying about Everett's future, will Lottie be able to solve this murder before her Sugar Cookie makes their debut? Or will this murder be solved by the Ashford Sheriff's department? Read this latest Murder in the Mix book to see which ghostly specters will assist Lottie along the way!

What more can I say than I’m obsessed with this series! It has it all humor, romance, action, murder, and delicious baked goods all between its covers.
With a baby coming at any time, a trip back to days of yesteryears, the last thing a high school reunion would be expected to have is murder. A very pregnant Lottie has a lot to do before the baby comes, is solving a double homicide one of them?
I was hooked and I will admit I did get a little emotional. Then I felt a little heated when I realized I was at the end it was done over I had turn my last page. Okay not heated but I stuttered but a few times in a whiney tone. I have said it before I’ll say it again I need the next one like yesterday!

I love this series. Each book brings something new and exciting while still staying true to the original. In this addition to the series, Lottie's baby is almost here and she's up to her same old habits. She has a new mystery to solve and doesn't care what she needs to do or what kind of danger she gets herself into in order to solve it. I like that the author has kept the characters in this story true to their original selves since the beginning while still allowing them to evolve and grow with each new book in the series. This is a very enjoyable read and I look forward to reading about where the author takes us next. Well done to the author!

This has been one of my favorite series from the very beginning. There is so much going on in this book and it will definitely keep your attention and keep you thinking the entire time. Honey Hallow has had a double murder this time and Lottie is on a tight schedule to solve them both seeing as how she is due to have her little mystery sugar cookie any day now. As if the double murder and the double paternity possibilities were not enough there are also some strange double appearances going on that need to be explained. I loved every minute of this book and I can not wait to see what is in store for Lottie and her growing family in the next one!

I love this series. Each new book just gets my heart going more. This one #31, is letting me hang more so than other ones. I just cannot wait for the next edition. If you like mysteries with a touch of humor and some romance thrown in you will love this series as much as I do. After reading the first book I just had to go through each one as fast as I could get my hands on it. Of course, I highly recommend this book and all the ones before it.

Addison does it once again! Baby Bundt Cake Confusion book is full of the mystery & suspense as the others in this series, along with that touch of humor in all the right places. And, as always, the pets are an added bonus. Their personalities are as real & diverse as the people in Addison's cozy mysteries, giving them that much more appeal for me.
I loved it & can't wait for more!

The Baby is Born!

This is a very funny book, featuring Lottie and all her food cravings. Even with the baby overdue, Lottie still has to solve a murder or two. Still not knowing who the baby’s father is, Lottie and the two possibles don’t really seem to mind. I was excited to see that the baby finally decides to make his or her appearance. This is a fabulous book!

A good series.

Lottie is getting ready for for her baby to arrive and has a double murder to solve. Lottie's food cravings are funny. We get POV's from Everett and Noah. I would like to see Everett be the father of Lottie's baby, but I feel Noah will be the father. It would complicate Lottie's life even more. Carlotta"s antics are getting less funny

I was so hoping that Lottie would have had fraternal twins one fathered by each, Noah and Everett. That didn’t happen! Next to find out who the look alike woman is. If it’s Lottie’s sister twin perhaps? Or a younger sister or Carlotta’s sister? Why the mystery?? Then of course who fathered Lyla. How will their relationship continue from here on? I still think Lottie should know by now to question an explained animal occurrence as perhaps a ghost she always seems clueless! Why not simply whisper to one of the “in the know” persons “ do you see that (dog)?” Instead of bellowing out “what is that (dog) doing in my bakery?” or something to that effect. She shouldn’t be so naive at this point. Her sister and friend say it took 9 months to lose their baby weight. Well that varies per person and much depends on how much the woman gained! Plus eating habits!! Lottie gained way more weight and she eats tons of fattening foods!! Carlotta is becoming even more annoying with each story. Why does Lottie allow her so much power letting her live with her, using her credit cards, influencing her adopted daughter?? She abandoned her!! Although Miranda seems somewhat clueless and sex starved as well. I didn’t expect so much sexual innuendo with the these stories! It’s a bit annoying or overdone to me. Stick with the murder mystery and love storyline or doesn’t have to be sexual too. With the ghosts on top of it there’s just too much!! There are features that keep me engaged and moving on to the next book. I have come this far I might as well keep reading. There are more pluses than minuses.

Enjoyed it! - possible spoilers

I enjoyed it, and I love the Noah and Everett POV chapters. I’m glad Lottie finally had the baby as her eating non stop was getting a bit old. Looking forward to finding out the baby’s paternity and more info about the mystery woman!

Love this series

Every month I cannot wait for Lottie’s new story. This is my favorite series. Please do not break up the trio. I love the fact that they are so close. I wish that she could share her time with both of her loves. Loved this book.

Finally!

The plot twists remain fun even though they are formulaic. Carlotta is so annoying I !an seriously stop reading the series. Sadly, if someone killed her she'd probably stick around just as annoying as ever.
