The monster I thought I left behind at high school has followed me to Lucent Academy.
I feel him inside me, changing me, darkening my heart and mind.
I yearn for the hunt.
The thrill of the kill.
The taste of fresh blood.
But I won’t give in to those dark desires. I can’t.
My friends are in danger.
Someone is stealing Auran blood. Someone who wants our kind dead.
The only way I can save them is to fight the growing evil inside me, and once again embrace my Light before it’s too late.

Born at the stroke of midnight, Raven Steele grew up in a home bordering a graveyard as old as time. Ghosts became her only friends and whispered tales of a world that existed between night and day. In this place, monsters roamed the lands, magic curled in the wind, and good and evil fought over the hearts and minds of humans. Desperate to not let those dark and brave creatures be forgotten, Raven wrote down the words of the ghosts, knowing their stories of triumph and sorrow would give strength and comfort to those in our world.
And so, when the sun sets, Raven retreats to the cemetery at the edge of the woods, where she sits and listens to the dead speak their tales of Rouen and all of its inhabitants. Because one day, our two worlds may collide, and when they do, we must be ready. For when their darkness bleeds into ours, we will be fighting for more than our lives. We will be battling for our souls.
Raven Steele is a pen name to USA Today's bestselling author Rachel McClellan.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "BITTER MAGIC" This is the second book in this interesting, entertaining, intriguing, intense drama with danger, darkness, magic, amgst, adventure, mystery, betrayal, hot steamy scenes, strong emotions, loss it grabs you from beginning to end. Liona & May head to Lucent Academy where they meet new students her Aunt Sophie arranges her class but their not very accepting or friendly. Liona can do feel the change since she was bitten the darkness inside growing making her want to do things she fights to keep the light she has to if she wants to save her friends. Liona feels like somethings going on at Lucent Academy someone is taking Auran's Blood wanting them dead the Vykens are gaining so much is going on questions need answers she still trying to control the darkness. I definitely recommend to get this book it will gave glued to your seat until finished I hope the next book "AWAKENING MAGIC" will have Liona become much stronger and control her powers to fight the Vykens.
Bitter Magic by Raven Steele is the second instalment of the Born of Light series. We see Llona starting out at Lucent Academy with the usual bitchy high school type situations. Luckily May is there with her and they soon make friends with Keira and Tessa, another Aura and a lizen servant. Llona continues to be her rebellious self by not fitting in to the mould of an aura! Soon the action starts with weird things happening involving vitamin pills, aura’s blood and an increased number of viken around the academy. Not to mention Llona trying to battle the darkness in her from when she got bitten the Viken in the last book. At least she still has Christian and May around to help and Llona even finds an ally in someone else battling with the same darkness as her helping her to understand and control it. But on my, that ending... No, no, no! Next one quick please!
Llona knew something was wrong with her but she had no control of it. While she was struggling with herself, the Vykens were gaining ground, all the Aura's were target and though there were new allies the dark evil was too powerful. I was intrigued all the time with the suspense and the interesting scenes that kept me on edge. So much strong emotions, sorrow and loses. Hope that in the next book Llona comes stronger, with all her force and strike back. Action, suspense, intrigue, darkness, mystery, betrayal, camaraderie, romance and passion. Voluntarily reviewed this exciting and intense book that I liked.
This book will captivate you from start to end. Mystery, adventure, action, and even tears. I read this book in one day I just could not put it down. My heart is still reeling. We meet new characters and they bring in more to the book. Llona and May are at Lucent Academy now. Her Aunt Sophie has assigned her to class, but students are still mean and not accepting of her. Llona is feeling a change in her since she was bitten, but what is the darkness? Can she fight it? What will Christian do if he finds out what happen? What is really going on at the Academy? I received a free copy for my honest review.
Llona and May are now at Lucent Academy where treachery abounds, someone is stealing the auras blood and selling it to Vykens. In this book you meet new characters, Liam, Tessa, Kiera, Jackson and many more. I enjoyed meeting Tessa, a Lizen, she has scales on her face and thinks she has to hide herself. Llona is teaching her that she doesn’t have to. The Vykens are coming and the Auras will have to learn how to defend themselves. I cannot wait for the next book to see what is going to happen next. I recommend this series.
Llona is back at at school but of course things are not a rainbows and parties. Llona must face the typical school issues of being the new girl plus fight against the evil within. There was danger, suspense, mystery, angst and typical school stuff. It was interesting and entertaining and fun to read. Kept me glued to the end to see what would happen and what Llona would have to face and overcome this time.
Llona and May are at the fancy school, just like Llona's Aunt Sophie wanted. But things are not as they seem, and only Llona can sense it. When her parents murderer comes looking for her, she proves to be harder to kill than he thought. Great continuation from book 1, characters develop in depth, storyline intensifies, the action continues to be fast paced, and the bit of romance gets a little further. I received a complimentary copy and freely give my honest review.
I have a new book boyfriend & his name is Christian! He's perfect. I would let him do more for me than Llona does. I would definitely have learned how to fight though. I would have told Christian the truth about everything as it happened. Withholding secrets like Llona does doesn't help or protect anyone. It just alienates her. This one has a sad ending, not going to lie. However, it was war I expected it.
Good book, good series, but now that it’s in a school I feel like I’ve read it before. Sorry, but there are so many School Academy for Magic type books out there and they are all the same. Misfit goes to school, misfit has powers others don’t have, misfit saves school, etc. like I said, it’s good, but if you have read too many like it you might give it a pass.
Love, hate, light, darkness. Action and intrigue with challenges and answers and battles both internal and external. An incredible world populated by a whole cast of complex characters, some to love and some to hate. If you don't read late into the night like I did, I will be surprised. Looking forward to book 3.
This is a must read series! While the Academy thing has been done to death this author's take is refreshing. The angst, the romance, the evil and hopefully good triumphs. Secrets are never a good thing in real life but are a necessity in books lol, waiting for the next book...patiently, not!!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
A captivating read! A bit of sadness along the way in a grander scheme, but very well written. Looking forward to continuing the journey! The world and characters are well written and I enjoy traveling alongside them as they experience life.
This is the second book in the Born of light series and it picks right up where the first one left off. This one is a little darker than the first and there was some awesome new characters and different elements that came into play in this story.
Hard to put down. I became very involved in these characters and cared about what was going to happen next. It is not cookie cutter. There are plenty of twists you won't see coming. Non stop action begining to end.
The author continues to throw in the surprise now and then. I am hoping that the last book will come up with a happy settlement, if not a happy ending.
This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster. My heart breaks at the pain that Llona feels throughout this book as she learns more about not only herself but about her race. It is an amazing story and I can't wait to read the third book in this series.
